The day it became public knowledge that Charlie boy and some so called activists collect money to organize protests was the day he lost any credibility . He should also lose that bus stop name. Same as all these yeye politicians naming things after themselves.
What is actuly wrong g with this administration . Always renaming things up and down.

Charly boy is from Anambra or so. The chairman of his local government of origin can name several streets and bus stops after him.

@ Eriokanmi

Didn't YOU read the article properly? What "tribalism" are you going on about? STOP whipping up needless emotions here.

The ORIGINAL or official name of that Bus Stop has ALWAYS been "2nd Pedro" NOT "Charly Boy Bus Stop" which is just an informal naming due to his activism for commercial bike riders. The bus stop is now officially renamed to "Badoo Bus Stop" from "2nd Pedro Bus Stop" after "Olamide" Adedeji (who is a Bariga-born guy) as of 2025.

"Charly Boy B/S" was informally named during Charles' peak while still living in Lagos State with his popular "Charly Boy Show" on television back in the day, from the early 1990s.
The bus stop has NEVER been officially approved as Charly Boy bus stop.

Now, on the contrary there's NO ethnic bigotry in the rebranding (except initially on the subliminal level for me with the name "Baddo" BUT since it's the young man, Olamide's alternate or stage name, then folks will have to get used to it). Every community or locality worldwide such as the Bariga LCDA in Lagos State reserves the right to rename roads and landmarks as part of rebranding after road upgrades and gentrification!

The original article CLEARLY states that other streets in that area were named after notable people. I saw a YouTube video in my timeline just 3 weeks ago detailing how Olamide is silently investing heavily in real estate and agribusiness so that's quite impressive to know he's using his millions wisely and he can be a role model.

Besides, I'm aware that Charles Oputa doesn't live in Gbagada, Lagos State anymore in that rented house where he lived close to the expressway for years now since he has moved to his new house in the FCT with his family. It was in that FCT house that Charles' father (Justice Oputa) stayed before he died.

Excerpts of the article CLEARLY stating that other roads and landmarks were renamed as well.
According to Alabi, the renaming initiative aims to honour notable individuals who have contributed to the growth and image of the Bariga community.

Other roads and landmarks were also renamed after celebrities and public figures, including King Sunny Ade, Tony Tetuila, 9ice, Arsenal footballer Bukayo Saka, and Olamide himself, who also now has a street named after him.

Charles Oputa is from Oguta in Imo State NOT Anambra. What made that Bus Stop significant back in the day is that Charles' house was located close to it. You could literally see his house while driving along the expressway heading towards the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

However, he moved permanently from Lagos with his African-American wife, Diane to live in his newly built house in the FCT
for some years now so his eccentric presence and aura are far removed from the Gbagada community now...Therefore, the renaming of the Bus Stop can be justified.

Personally I don't think renaming that particular bus stop can be justified because it is a landmark of sorts whose history dates back several decades
Re: You Can’t Rename A Legacy - Charly Boy Faults Renaming Of Lagos Bus Stop by MightySparrow:
Charlie boy does not understand that his sin is tribal not personal. When Lagos State of Assembly decided to be speaking Yoruba, dressing in Yoruba attire, they are simply telling you that Lagos is not a ' No Man's Land. Lagos wants to uproot your history, remembrance and legacies such that in few decades to come, no Igbo man will have any identification than signpost of his business.

You guys are bringing this upon yourselves. This is the sophistication we are talking about - fighting without noise. You cannot challenge the move in court. Even the courts are filled with yorubas everywhere.

When will igbos be wise? In the same vein, Igbo presidency would be very difficult in Nigeria. Keep up making money and be developing your Lagos as the extension of your Igbo states.

We'll see how things pan out down the road. The ORIGINAL (or official) name of that Bus Stop is "2nd Pedro" till 2025, and only informally named "Charly Boy Bus Stop" by some people. BUT it's now renamed officially to "Olamide Badoo Bus Stop" after Olamide (who is a Bariga-born guy) as of 2025.

"Although before now, the official name of the Bus Stop is 2nd Pedro till 2025, Charly Boy B/S" was named during Charles' peak while still living in Lagos State with his popular "Charly Boy Show" on television back in the day, from the early 1990s.

Some people are used to the "Charly Boy B/S" name by default but with time people, will adjust to the new name because it's a 1-word name... "Baddo" Bus Stop.

Even the former students or folks who attended the then "University of Ife" by default still like to call it by that name instead of the "Obafemi Awolowo University" renamed in 1987 after Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, despite his iconic projects in the Old Western Region such as the first TV station in Africa, the then first and tallest high rise building (Cocoa House) Nigeria including Western House on Lagos Island, the construction of several Industrial Estates from the 1950s such as Oluyole in Ibadan, Ikeja Industrial Estate, Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Iganmu Industrial Estate, Isolo Industrial Estate, etc, [all located in the Old Western Region, for manufacturing and exports through the seaport in Apapa long before Lagos State was created on May 27, 1967 by General Yakubu Gowon].
