Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on Nigerians to reject the coalition gathering under the platform of the African Democratic Congress, describing them as “naysayers and unpatriotic”, Nigeria Nigeria reports.

Wike said the only intention of the coalition is to wrest power from incumbent President, Bola Tinubu, come 2027, even when they have no proven record of achievement in the various elective positions they have occupied in the past.

He said Tinubu, on assumption of office, took some painful but necessary decisions that will eventually change the fortunes of Nigeria for good, saying some inroads are already been recorded.

Wike stated this at the University of Port Harcourt’s 35th Combined Convocation 50th Anniversary shortly after the institution decorated him with Honorary Doctor of Science degree in Political Science at the Campus in Choba, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday.

The minister alleged that members of the coalition are busy spreading lies and hate to paint the Tinubu-led government black ahead of the 2027 general elecrions.

He, however, said some of the decisions taken by the administration are beginning to bear good fruits, citing the steady drop in the price of fuel and others.

Wike called on the congregation to support Tinubu who is the visitor of the university, for his ‘unwavering and undiluted commitment’ to the socio-economic wellbeing and prosperity of the country.

“Through his Renewed Hope Agenda, he has with the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund among other remarkable initiatives started the dramatic transformation of tertiary education landscape in such a way that soon, no willing child will be denied access to quality education because of economic hardship.

“Our country is undoubtedly on the path of positive ascendency and very soon, the impact will be visible even to the blind and obvious even to the cynically minded,” he said.

Speaking on the coalition, Wike said to Nigerians, “We must resist the purveyors of lies, hate and division who seek to destroy our country.

“These men and women who converge under the banner of so-called coalition and propelling a division of grandeur and perpetual fight for relevance and political power.

“If you interrogate their profiles, you will find that they have been in office for almost all their lives. Yet, they have nothing concrete to show of their achievements in building an enduring nation

“In only two years of this administration, they are congregating to destroy rather than build and rather than reconstruct our hithero battered country for which most of them have been active dramatis personae in the willful destruction of our politics and economy which they painfully orchectrated in their respective tenure in office.

“We know these naysayers and you are enjoined to reject them and their unpatriotic drum beats of division and failed propaganda.”

The minister said his support for the University of Port Harcourt both as governor and a minister, was borne out of the positive influence the federal institution had on him as an alumnus.

He said, “It is in the light of the foregoing that I have always strongly believed that every alumnus should give back to the university as a mark of pure gratitude.

“This also explains why I freely give to this institution whenever I have had the opportunity to so do.”

Wike recalled that throughout his duty tours, he had always referred to himself as a happy alumnus of the UNIPORT insisting that all his gestures were a deliberate pursuit of commitment to gratitude for a university he said gave him a lot.

He said, “To this extent, you would recall that even though this university was established in 1975 as a conventional university, there was no Law faculty in this university.

“So, when I became a Minister of State (for) Education, I saw it as an opportunity that we must have a Faculty of Law.

“I’m glad that the Vice-Chancellor said it here today that today, we have a Faculty of Law. I did not only end at that; I said there must be a befitting Faculty of Law building, and I insisted, and today, we have that Faculty of Law.”

Why's he afraid of coalition.

ADC has come to stay with high voltage.

The drunken master cannot be the one to tell Nigerians what to do for the 2027 presidential elections in Nigeria.

I thought they said the president isn't afraid of coalition, why then are they feeling the heat?
The truth is just that they're afraid of the coalition coz no incumbency would allowed opposition to take over, I still find it difficult to forgive GEJ but I guessed he wasn't a die hard politician then sha

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

Why is he worried about coalition?
Don’t mind him o.

Did he not do coalition with ebilokan in 2023 for Rivers State votes, after getting rid of Obi from PDP to make victory easy for APC shege banza continuity?

He should also leave us to do our own coalition for a return to PDP deregulation and privatisation prosperity for all. How could a Yorubalokan man make his fellow southerner Jonathan a one term president in favour of clueless northerner Buhari? For what purpose, if not for the selfish pursuit of powerhuh

2023: PDP and politics of healing Wike’s self-inflicted injury

Then, the race began in earnest for three years now, reaching a frenzy with the works of the two PDP committees on zoning. The first was the Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi committee on the zoning of the PDP party offices. The Ugwuanyi committee quickly told the world the committee’s assignment did not cover zoning the office of the president. Though this was true, the question is: why didn’t the Ugwuanyi committee zone the PDP chairmanship to the North without aligning it to the divide that would produce the PDP presidential flag-bearer? The second committee headed by Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue state was specifically on the zoning of the presidential ticket and, with the votes of the representatives of all the 17 Southern states without any exception, the Committee unanimously recommended throwing open the PDP presidential ticket, which the PDP NEC simply upheld.

One thing irrefutably stands out – Wike shot himself in the leg. Here was a man who had an overarching influence on both committees but could not insist that the ticket be zoned South. Many had wondered why? The reason is also relatively in plain sight: the Southeast factor. As the clamour for zoning of the presidential ticket of the PDP to South reached its crescendo, many had pointed out the fact that though the PDP Constitution had prescribed zoning of the office of the president to be between North and South since the South-west and South-south had taken their turns in producing the president and the vice in this current dispensation in the persons of Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, zoning this time around, should not just be to the South but the Southeast.

Atiku Abubakar went a step further by offering to step down from the race if it would be agreed that the touted zoning to the South would mean micro-zoning to the Southeast. Wike and the rest could not take the Atiku challenge maybe because Atiku would likely back Peter Obi, who was his vice-presidential running mate in 2019 and an ally. The prospects of Peter Obi picking the ticket if PDP zoned South was so real compelling Wike to go for an open contest, believing he could pick it up ahead of Atiku, Tambuwal and Bala Mohammed, given his large war chest.

This Wike is just too predictable abeg. Very good in playing stvpid politics and spoiler game. Now that PDP ticket is available, you won't see him pick it up to test his popularity but he will rather be in PDP and work for Tinubu and won't still join APC. This is clear case of double-faced hypocrite. Neither here nor there. Tueh

Umahi will dribble him in that Vice-presidential politicking. Unless he will vice a Northerner under PDP. But if it's APC, Umahi is positioning for the seat since power is going back to the North 2031.

PDP will continue running helter skelter without making any headway for betraying SE loyalty. If Tinubu wins his reelection which is very likely, then expect APC to win 2031 when power rotates back to the North. I'm seeing a Shettima-Umahi, Zulum-Umahi or Kwankwaso-Umahi ticket. El-Rufai would have been a good choice but he has left APC.
