While i am no supporter of evil APC, this isnt an APC thing entirely. Every year, prices fluctuates according demand-supply dynamics which is influenced by pkanting season.

Let the wailers here tell us price of groundnut, fresh corn, or garden egg or potatoes. They crashed while rice peaked.

Tell me his achievement as anambra governor during his tenure
if not for anything, it was during his tenure that I saw and ate Anambra rice for the first time. Go and verify he used to give it out to workers for free including gatemen in state establishments and pensioners. Infact it was our landlord elder brother, a pensioner that brought it home and gave us some

This is where government media machinery must come in. For example, NOA can start a series on Nigerian media—TV, radio, and online—to direct Nigerians to sellers who are selling at affordable prices. This will force the market hands. It’s in the interest of traders that prices go up, while the government must look out for the interests of the consumers.

“A bag of short grain rice we saw going down to as low as 65k has gone as high as 85k, the long grain sells between 90k and as high as 100k and it’s still going up.
I hope zombies can read and understand now
I've been telling them that the rice that fell to 65k and below is the short grain local rice which is usually sticky and soggy
The long grain local rice is still 70k and above and foreign rice is 80k and above as well
At least you're hearing it from a dealer now

The same rice that I just bought yesterday? You people are joking too much in this country. If you read this article gently, you'll see where the saboteurs are driving at, but we'll be waiting for them.

There's nothing like saboteur
Rice comes in different grades and quality
The rice that's within 60k-70k price is local rice especially the short grain
Foreign rice is between 80-100k
That's a fact of the market

Nice story sir!
But it all sounds like Tales By Moonlight if such officers are not named. If your friend had taken down the names of such officers, their locations and dates that all these happened, then someone in government might step in. White people come here and they document being asked for bribes.
Whereas we Nigerians never call out corrupt people directly.
We all talk about corruption as if the people involved are ghosts.

Until we learn to name and shame these people, I doubt if we can say we ready for a new Nigeria.

TallNigerian:
If only we understand that the common Nigerian is the major weapon fashioned against this country, maybe we may begin to realize how almost irredeemable this country has become.

A family friend of mine had a terrible experience with Nigeria Custom Service officers along the Idiroko axis sometimes last month (June 2025). He had gone to purchase 4 bags of rice at N45,000 each (this was a mutual funding by four neighbours) and was returning when he was intercepted by NCS officers, they searched and then released him to go. He had not driven up to 3 minutes when he noticed the NCS officers chasing him with motorbikes. He stopped and they said they were instructed to seize the bags of rice. They eventually did and this family friend had to contact another friend who is a Superintendent of Customs. The SC told him to return to the post where the bags were seized so he can speak to the officers, but upon arriving there, he was told the bags have been moved to the custom warehouse.

He proceeded to the warehouse where they denied receiving such item that day. After so much back and forth, my friend became frustrated and abandoned the recovery process. Somehow, he later learnt that the same people he bought the rice from were the ones colluding with the NCS officers to seize the rice, thereby spiking the price gradually.

Nigeria's problem is beyond Tinubu, Obi or Atiku. Nigerians are fantastically corrupt. It will take the Chinese style of executing corrupt officials and citizens for some normalcy to be restored in the way we conduct ourselves.

Dude, you have never seen proforma invoice so don't even try to argue with me on importation.
Thrash. Proforma invoice is nothing but quotation list of goods yet to be paid. So what has it got much to do with importation. Maybe you wanted to talk about form M. I don't think you have imported a single item before. Meanwhile, importation of meat should be discouraged not because of your $1600 quatation but because of potential health hazards it poses. Bet me it will be far cheaper when imported

I know what I bought. Even the foreign long grain is not up to 100k as of yesterday.
However, people should be able to read between the lines:
Dealers blame the development on the presumed end of the 150-day duty-free import window for essential food items as part of the Presidential Accelerated Stabilisation and Advancement Plan.

I agree with you on the need to properly document such incidents for proper investigation but you must realise that sometimes these situations caught people unawares and take them off-guard. In other instances, people are either too scared or do not believe in the justice system, and therefore do not take any step to properly document these events for further investigation. By the time they decide to, it's either too late to document or too stale to pursue justice.

That does not in anyway water down the gravity or reality of such events/occurrences. Let us not downplay the endemic corruption across all sectors of our country because we speak in favour of a political party or politician.

thank you.. I wonder who is pushing this fake news... This dealers are too greedy because I don't understand why I still don't see the impact of the President waiver or whatever they call it. Most of them will say that they already stock with old price so no changes at all. In Nigeria, we are just suffering ourselves

You made even more valid points in in your last two paragraphs. A benevolent dictator is needed to deal with the greed of a lot of Nigerians in that country who engage in regular sabotage while creating inneficiences such as artificial scarcity in the economic ecosystem through hoarding to make illegal profits.

Nigeria's problem is beyond Tinubu, Obi or Atiku. Nigerians are fantastically corrupt. It will take the Chinese style of executing corrupt officials and citizens for some normalcy to be restored in the way we conduct ourselves.
