They feed on and exude tribalism. Afterwards, they turn around to call others tribalists.

Watch the tribal line they will tow in 2027. They will still turn to accuse Peter Obi who was never tribalistic of tribalism.

Na their way.
Your response turned into a joke when you mentioned the staunchest of tribalists.

The earliest census records during the colonial days show that Igbos were not existing in Lagos o. The tribes that should be beating their chest are not doing so because that kind of disease no dey their blood.

The Xenophobia in South Africa against Nigerians is as a result of this same people.
It is important to add context Lagos state was created in 1967
It is not the same as Lagos of 1891 which is less than 20% of the land mass of Lagos state

The rest e.g Mushin , Oshodi Gbadada, Badagry Ikeja, Ikorodu Epe were all part of the Western Region and separate from Lagos Colony the capital of Nigeria

So we have in Lagos state Lagos Town just like you have Enugu, Oyo, Ondo, Kaduna, !Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, Katsina towns inside states with the same name

Lagos Town I.e the Island ,Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Mainland up to Idi Oro was the capital of Nigeria. Not Lagos state

Lagos state WAS NEVER THE CAPITAL OF NIGERIA and that is why it had its own separate capital from where you had all the Federal bodies like Supreme Court, Central Bank Federal secretariat Embassies etc

The location of Embassies is a guide to where the capital is or was

Gbagada was never part of the capital and all these ridiculous claims of cosmopolitan Lagos have no basis

Sowore is not a Yoruba man, so he can choose to be insensitive on the Lagos matter.. all these while, I thought he was Ijaw from Ondo only to get informed of recent by an Ijaw lady from Ondo that Sowore is not Ijaw.. I've forgotten the name of the tribe he hails from.

Going forward, Yorubas MUST and WILL take charge of everything that concerns Yorubaland. We must educate other Yorubas on the need for our people to embrace conservative measures to protect our ancestral lands, heritage and culture from those pushing their hidden agenda of ethnic domination over Yorubas on Yoruba own soil.

Like Mr. Bayo Onanuga rightly said.. Yorubas must change our approach going forward to pass clear message to those who pose existential threat to our race to back off.

Tinubu supporters who are in the minority in Lagos are setting the state up for future political realignment. When Tinubu loses Aso Rock, he'll likely lose Lagos also. The next President may be forced to declare a state of emergency to get rid of thugs and prevent imminent violence due to rising political tensions, and this move will be backed by the majority. The handwriting is on the wall, you don't need a prophet to tell you.

Lagos is Nigeria's most cosmopolitan city and no single group is allowed to create hostility for others in order to dominate. That is exactly what Tinubu supporters are doing, which is dangerous for Nigeria's development (which Lagos is at the epicenter of) and even prohibited by Nigeria's constitution. If you can't handle leadership entrusted to you, it will be given to someone else and you can watch from the sidelines.
B-b-but you lot were chestbeating that you'd leave Lagos and it'd crash? Teach Ragos a resson na. Let them know you people are the ones that deveroped it.

You are absolutely very correct taking away lagos resources from tinibu and his gang will definitely save nigeria from plunging into another major national crises or even war in future the signs are clearly visible for even the blind to see.

Ex-Governor Fashola Calls On Lagos To Preserve, Document History Amid Street Renaming Controversy

July 30, 2025
NEWS

Former Lagos State Governor and former Minister of Works, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has called for the preservation of Lagos's history to prevent distortion and uphold societal values.

His remarks come amid an ongoing controversy over street naming in the State.

The former Governor stated this on Tuesday at the public presentation of “Discover Lagos State: A History Puzzle Book (Volume 1)”, held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

He emphasised the importance of preserving historical records and landmarks to promote civic values and foster an understanding of Lagos’s past.

Referencing historical records archived at the University of Glasgow, Fashola highlighted the far-reaching impact of proper documentation and its role in shaping historical consciousness.

“For instance, the Glasgow University archives service gives fascinating insights into the influence that the university, its staff and students have had in the history and development of many countries, including Nigeria,” he said.

He cited the case of Dr. Isaac Ladipo Oluwole, a Nigerian who studied at the University of Glasgow between 1913 and 1918.

“Dr. Ladipo Oluwole returned to Nigeria to become the first African medical officer of health in the Lagos colony,” Fashola noted.

“He pioneered school health services, with school inspection and vaccination of children in their schools, and started the first Nigerian school of hygiene at Yaba in Lagos in 1920.”

Drawing attention to a street named after Oluwole in Ikeja, Fashola said, “So those of us who drive through streets such as Ladipo Oluwole Street in Ikeja will probably now understand and contextualise the contributions of such a man and why it was considered such a high honour to immortalise him by naming a street in his memory.”

Amid debates over renaming streets across Lagos, Fashola added pointedly, “It is perhaps instructive that we are discussing street naming and street unnaming and I keep my gunpowder dry.

“Today I reiterate those words about street naming and Dr Oluwole and with a greater conviction to reinforce my message that the preservation of our history and the documentation of our progress should be taken seriously.”

He also stressed the importance of adequately supporting the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB), which developed the puzzle book.

“The work of LASRAB extends beyond educational books,” he said.

“The ultimate goal is to create a central hub of a trustworthy and comprehensive repository of Lagos State memory. Mr Governor, LASRAB must be well-funded.”

Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the event, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat praised the new book as an “initiative that uniquely blends education, creativity and cultural preservation.”

“This project is an innovative learning tool designed to stimulate young minds,” he said.

“It will also promote curiosity, deepen our pride as Lagosians and our collective understanding of the history and heritage of our dear State.”

Hamzat also acknowledged Fashola’s efforts in founding LASRAB during his tenure.

“I recall very clearly that he wrote an executive order directing that all documentation, when we build schools, bridges, anything, we keep five copies: one in the Ministry of Science and Technology and one in LASRAB,” Hamzat said.

“This foundational act was not merely administrative. It was an intentional effort to institutionalise, preserve, document, and disseminate Lagos’s narrative for posterity.”

He concluded with a call to deepen historical understanding, saying, “It is important that we don’t only understand ourselves, but we must understand our history so we don’t lose ourselves.

“This book is a creative method of crafting historical consciousness that informs while it also entertains. That way, we don’t distort our history and we don’t misunderstand our being.”
