Mccullum:I just posted about this in another thread where I estimated the so called federal territory was only about 5% of modern Lagos state. Nice to see you resurfaced this thread. |

Christistruth03:Let's stop the hypocrisy and be honest. It is FG investments in Lagos that made it what it has become. Without those investments, Lagos would be what it is today. |

Raskimonojendor:Which Awolowo are you talking about? The one that was lambasted even after his death by ebilokan’s loudspeaker at The Nation newspaper, in his vain attempt to desecrate and discredit Awolowo’s progressive legacy? Babasessy: |

Christistruth03:Is this how you reason? Even your state capital would include neighbouring towns and lgs, like in Abuja today, the federal capital territory includes part of nassarawa and niger state, you'd see 2 police station in niger state close to each other, one belongs to the state and the other one belongs to fct, FCT is different from Capital city. It was as a result of Lagos as capital territory made FG construct all the federal highways like badagry/mile 2, apapa/oshodi, national theatre, festac town, international airport, seaports, some government buildings and much more all over Lagos state of today and beyond |

Raf4:Any idea what made the development stop since 1999, such that Lagos is now a glorified ghetto with no pipe borne water, no free healthcare and no free basic education for all children? What is ebilokan and his puppet successors doing with the trillions annual budget if they are not employing and paying civil servants well enough to provide these services and utilities that were taken care of by the colonial masters, the AG and UPN governments? obonujoker: Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low |

Weather it is a small part of Lagos or the entire part of Lagos...LAGOS WAS THE FORMER CAPITAL OF NIGERIA BEFORE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MOVED IT TO ABUJA IN 1991, PERIOD.

hedonido:You ended up justifying what they are saying, if most of the satellite town of Maraba and Sulieja grow in future to merge with Asokoro and Kubwa you can't claim they are FCT or Abuja those are still Nasarawa and Niger state territories. There is a part of Lagos that hosted the Federal government serving as FCT and there was Lagos state all compressed within the same area. No matter how close Maraba is to Abuja it's still not FCT. Even the indigenes of FCT will one day begin to draw the line between their boundaries and what there forebearers gave to the FGN the moment population begin to grow, anyone with property outside the core city center is at risk. |

Ozommadu:Lagos will still be developed than other part of Nigeria. It has access to the deep water sea..it's location alone is lucrative for international trade. It is also cheaper... considering it was the port of slave trade that leads directly to the ocean and to the Americans which are now our major trading partners. L |

Christistruth03:Please who built the International Airport/ 3ML Bridge/ Sea Ports. If the goal is to claim that only the capital area was developed by the FG and the Western Regional / Lagos Govts did all the rest, you are wasting your time. |
| Re: Percentage Of Lagos State Landmass That Formed Former FCT by Goke7: 5:52pm On Jul 28, 2025 |
There is no need for any long story, the summary is Lagos is no longer FCT and is now being managed by the State and local governments, anyone living in Lagos is no longer subject to the FG but to the state and the LGA where they reside! The whole debate is because many still see Lagos as the FCT and think the city or state belongs to the FG, whereas that FCT status no longer exists. |

| Re: Percentage Of Lagos State Landmass That Formed Former FCT by Brenbentondiaz: 6:03pm On Jul 28, 2025 |
Ozommadu:If FG didn't build all those things and the whole of Lagos had been under the Western Region, the Western Region Government would have built all those. In case your lying grandfather didn't tell you, the Western Region Government built the first television station in Africa at Ibadan (Yorubas had a TV station before Spain, France etc). That's one history you lot wished never happened. You can't relate, though. So, a govt that had the foresight to build a TV station would know the necessity of having a port, since one of its major cities was located on the coast. |

Akinomoakin021:Former fct not current. Anybody that wants to maf should go to present fct Abuja not Lagos. Otherwise the owner of the land will act accordingly appropriately. |

Yorubas are unique tribe. Too much stories about them. They have a solid foundation, their roots is solidly deep in the sand of time. Also, a country inside countries. Raskimonojendor: |

Ozommadu:Imagine Zik had concentrated on developing Calabar or PH to rival Lagos but instead he decided to make Enugu the capital of old Eastern region purely out of continuing Ibo marginalisation of the coastal minorities Before there was an Abuja there was an Enugu that pillaged the resources of minority people to build an Ibo city |
| Re: Percentage Of Lagos State Landmass That Formed Former FCT by sulaak(m): 7:10pm On Jul 28, 2025 |
Ozommadu:The seaport was already established even before the British arrived in Lagos. The Seaport was built by the Portuguese, which is why it is called Lagos. The first major builders of Lagos were the Saro and the Aguda (of Brazilian descent). They built the Portuguese-looking houses across Lagos and Abeokuta. Lagos' problem is overpopulation. A city designed for 300,000 people now has a population of over 22 million. This is why the indignes are fed up. |
| Re: Percentage Of Lagos State Landmass That Formed Former FCT by sulaak(m): 7:12pm On Jul 28, 2025 |
DomPerignon:Zik was very limited. Calabar or PH would have rivalled or surpassed if it were made the regional capital. |
