Ebonyi State governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has suspended 87 government officials, including commissioners, senior special assistants, special assistants, and permanent secretaries, for failing to attend an official state function, Daily Watch Nigeria reports.

The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Monday night by the governor’s spokesperson, Monday Uzor, who confirmed that the affected officials will observe a one-month working suspension without pay.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function.

“The suspension serves as a stern reminder of the administration’s expectations regarding attendance, duty, and professional conduct.,” the statement read.

The list includes: 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, 22 permanent secretaries.

According to the directive, the suspension is with immediate effect, and the affected officials have been barred from signing any official documents during the period.

Commissioners were also instructed to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.

Mr Uzor stated that the move underscores Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to discipline, accountability, and dedication among public servants in Ebonyi State. He reiterated that government officials must demonstrate unwavering commitment to duty and lead by example.
