Herd of elephants who might have escaped from one of the Ogun State Government Reserve, have killed a farmer, identified as Musa Kalamu, at Onitasin Imobi, in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state, Daily Watch Nigeria reports.

This unfortunate development was confirmed to newsmen by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo and the State Commissioner for Forestry, Mr Taiwo Oludotun.

Ogunlowo said information about the incident was received by the Divisional Police Officer, in Ogbere, at about 1620hrs on Monday.

He said, “The DPO Ogbere received information from Itasin community on 28/07/2025 at about 1620hrs that elephants escaped from government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu who died on the way to the hospital.

“Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage.Calm has returned to the community”.

The Commissioner for Forestry said the Ministry officials are aware of the incident and already on their way to the community.

The lifeless body of the victim of the wandering elephants attack was seen in a video that has since gone viral.

Sobbing locals in the video identified the late farmer as Kala, and appealed to the state government to save their lives from further attacks.

Elephant is not as smart as Cats. Gat me thinking, was the deceased trying to kill the elephant that would have made him not to escape for his life or he didn't saw it coming?

I don't understand this one o, was he trying to be brave, or did the elephant take him unaware, why should you allow an elephant so close to you

RIP to the physically challenged farmer, his disabled leg failed him.

1. Elephants can sneak up on someone. They are massive in size and are very intelligent. They do so to predators. It won’t surprise me if he was caught unaware.

2. Elephants are faster than the average human. There was no way he could outrun a fully grown elephant.

3. They topple trees for fun. Climbing a tree wouldn’t have saved him.

The man was doomed. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. No different from a stray bullet taking the life of a city slicker or an aeroplane falling on someone’s house.
