helinues:LG & Councillorship elections are not conducted by INEC. They don't need to hold same day. |

helinues:It will be too confusing and congested. Some will thumbprint Gov when he actually meant to vote Senate. No matter how inec explained the colours of the ballot papers, most people would be confused and thumbprint wrongly against their intentions. |

ClearFlair:INEC itself already said they cant do it. They once went to court bcs of same matter and they won. You want to force them? |

It is no brainer. It is masterminded by them because of the sudden surprise of the outcome of 2023 presidential election in Lagos, they want to enter Lagos house through back door. it is better imagined than experience. it will never happen. |

helinues:Why are you scared of defeat ? The first poster was right . If this suggestion was agreed to and implemented in 2023, Labour party woulda been governing the affairs of Lagos today. |

muykem:Don't mind those insisting that elections should be done in a day. I could remember 2003 elections, up till 2am, elections were still conducted and counting went as far as the 4th day Also, forcing INEC to conduct Elections on the same day removes their Independence |

Tareq1105:I am tryin to remember the year that we did some elections together. Everyone was thumbprinting for the same party for all elective posts Even in the US, the Presidential, Senate and HOR elections is done the same time; Governors and State Legislators are done by Mid-Term |

AMINDA:Nwokem gbafuo there! The headline was clickbait. If you take the time and read the article you will see that there were diverse views on the matter. helinues:Why will it be stretched when number of polling units remain same. It's only sensitive materials that will increase so what they need is just to increase personnel for logistic cover. |

Those kicking against this innovation rely on rigging. if there was such a law before now, candidates who ran for other offices under the labour party could have rode on their presidential candidate popularity into office. |
| Re: 2027: APC Kicks As Opposition Backs Single Day Polls by dettolgel: 1:07pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
helinues:I have worked as electoral officer in the country where I reside. All elections are done the same day. You come you verified your identity and you go into the booth and for each position you chose your candidate and vote. It is only the election for selection of Mayors that are done on a different day. If the argument is that INEC does not have capability to do that now, that is understandable. Not that it is not possible. |
| Re: 2027: APC Kicks As Opposition Backs Single Day Polls by Britishpea: 1:08pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
Na this one go allow plenty rigging pass oo. Inec and other institutions will be so overstretched to monitor everything to the end. Votings go enter big nights .. at the end of thr day ir won’t save costs because there will be alot of electoral malpractices that will lead to so many tribunal cases. There are pros and coins. No matter the system they practice Nigeria is a work in progress. Elections will never be perfect yet. |
| Re: 2027: APC Kicks As Opposition Backs Single Day Polls by IGBOPROMISE1: 1:08pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
But of course they will kick! How else do you want them to deploy adequate ‘resources’ to monitor the polling and votes cast as results come in, so they can determine where and where to cook the books, and at what point they need to switch off the IREV server (or whatever it’s called) when it’s clear their godfather is losing the presidential and Lagos state elections!? ![]() |

I support it too. Let it be pass and Tinubu signed it to law. |

fabolouz1:You’re spot on! Splitting the election days for presidential and gubernatorial was what saved Sanwo-Olus’ bacon! It helped him and his gang see which way the tide was going and gave them a few weeks to adequately ‘prepare’! |
| Re: 2027: APC Kicks As Opposition Backs Single Day Polls by gabbasin(m): 1:21pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
If it is practically possible without confusing voters, I do support it for the fact that it will reduce cost of conducting elections. But with five ballots for some illiterate voters to thumbprint for their preferred candidates from different political parties, this will be confusing and too much time will be spent by an average voter sorting the ballots before thumbprinting. Voting may extend to the night which might make many intending electorates to go back home in frustration. This issue should be looked into carefully before inserting a single day elections into the electoral act. |

press9jatv:One, it will never get to the point of arriving on Tinubus’ table for him to sign! And two, even if it does arrive on his table, he will use Buharis’ style of delay tactics to avoid signing it up to the point he will now say it’s too late to sign as it’s too close to the 2027 elections! Watch, this is exactly how things will play out! No be Nigeria!? |

| Re: 2027: APC Kicks As Opposition Backs Single Day Polls by onatisi(m): 2:23pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
We are not ripe for it yet. Many voters are still uneducated ,the whole process would confuse them and it will lead to massive rigging ,time wasting ,result delay and lots of legal cases |
| Re: 2027: APC Kicks As Opposition Backs Single Day Polls by dsenator: 2:36pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
This is how we used to do it some years back and the fairness of our elections was far better than what we have now. Here in the US, we elect so many people into different offices on a single election day and you would have known the results at least 97%, if not all, few hours after the election. Mahmoud Yakubu came here in Maryland to witness how their elections were conducted, returned to Nigeria with different ideas that the government implemented, but later allowed himself to be used to rubbish all the investments made in what would have been the best election so far in the history of Nigeria. If well handled electronically, it will save a lot of money, it will save a lot of time, and most importantly, it will save us from electoral fraud. |

helinues:Oga it's the same thing you are saying. The implication is that INEC is not capable to hold all the elections same day. Which means they lack the tech and technical know-how, man power, Logistics, wisdom etc to hold all the election same day. My question then is, where do all those huge allocation go to? INEC can easily rig when the elections hold on different days. QED |
