The truth is that it is difficult to come to a conclusion on whether Israel has committed war crimes in Gaza. War crimes is not just about killing 10, 20 civilians and even in the case of Gaza, 1000 civilian deaths is not likely to qualify as war crimes. That is a brutal fact. We have seen people who have been journalists in the day and Hamas fighters at night. We have seen the activities of UNRWA members in this whole shenanigan. And that is exactly why pro Israel and and pro western supporters down play what you seem to take serious.

You are fighting Hamas and a population that is largely sympathetic to Hamas. A faceless group that will never come out and identify themselves as Hamas members when there is a battle. A group that has no battle line and will never ever employ conventional tactics to fight a battle. Citizens hide Hamas fighters, maybe out of fear or anything else, I wouldn't know. Talk about starvation, there have been confirmed reports of Hamas members or its proxies looting aid trucks. If those ones are prevented from assessing the aid, we shout starvation of the citizens. Was the aid ever meant for Hamas in the first instance? All these things make it difficult to say with certainty that Israel has committed war crimes in Gaza.

Israel fought against Iran, no one said anything about genocide. As Israel systematically dismantled Hezbollah leadership, there were no cries of genocide. The reason is simple. There were targets that could be isolated from ordinary civilians. This is not the case in Gaza. Hamas fighters are invisible. Nobody writes Hamas on their foreheads. A 12 year old or a woman could scream "help me" and run into the midst of soldiers for protection only to wield out a Kalashnikov and slaughter 10 to 20 soldiers. America learnt that the hard way in Afghanistan. Yet, somehow, war analysts on Nairaland expect a soldier who has milliseconds to decide between his life and death to spend time deciding who is Hamas or not? Like seriously?

And that's exactly why I asked if the Nigerian army has committed war crimes in its fight against Boko Haram. Both are very similar situations.

If I agree that Israel has committed war crimes in Gaza, then I will have to agree that the Nigerian army has also committed war crimes in the north east.

Moving on, there is another question I will like you to answer. Has Russia committed war crimes in Ukraine? In this instance, we have ordinary citizens who can clearly be differentiated from the armed forces but which Russia has repeatedly attacked and killed. If Israel and Russia were to be arraigned in the ICC and convicted, there is no doubt Israel will get a lesser conviction than Russia. It's not about bias, it is what the situation required.
