xeju:Birth right and Citizenship is the same. Can anybody drag native lands with American Indians? Not even White people. Till date, Native Indians have free education to any level and priority for government jobs with their own lands the US government can never touch. Those are the indegenes of US. Nigeria does not even have such laws in place, if we are to treat indegens the way America does, SE will have a complete breakdown. Indegene rights are respected all over the world if you are not a troublemaker. |

That's clever of him, especially as he will appear as a willing tool for the agenda given his own sojourn from his native Kogi homeland to represent the Ikeja Federal Constituency, the heart of Lagos. He might be setting himself up to become the " Political Judas" who returned the 30 pieces of silver and still went ahead to hang himself. That is a Not at this point where our unity is volatile ; also considering the political landscape and temperature of the nation. It is a good step in the right direction, as far as I am concerned. ADC; HERE WE COME!!! |

It doesn't make sense to go and vote in your state rather than where you live. The government that affects your life directly is the government responsible for the area where you live and pay taxes. casualobserver: |

Nigeria is a different case scenario to what you're describing. Nigerians aren't a different people that emigrated from another continent into Nigeria. Your arguments & comparison don't actually make sense to be frank 2mch: |

xeju:Nigeria is not different. Before the formation of Nigeria, all groups came together to agree. Which is why the regional system of Government was formed. No where government exists in the world that the rights of the indegenes are not respected. Nigeria is a country made up of different nations and empires coming together to form a country. You cannot wake up one day and invalidate that. Except you don’t have value for your life. It will never work, not now. Not ever. Nigeria is even worse than the US in this regard. We are very very very different culturally and historically. Also you compared Birth right which grants citizenship and not Indegeneship to this bill. I am not sure you even know what being an indegene means. Plus how it is protected in America you quoted. You better comment at your level of understanding. |

LCling:Was ebilokan trying his own version of Ironsi’s unification decree below? Or maybe he did it when he packaged a clueless and expired northerner to make his fellow southerner Jonathan a one term president? Perhaps his Lagos master plan for renaming Igbo streets and bus stops is the latest example of his own unification agenda? His 26 years old lootocracy master plan to squeeze out IGR from the masses for 80 times increase in budget but no improvement in government services and public utilities like water supply. Such an obnoxious bill can only be sponsored and supported by expantionistic land-grabbers. They're off-springs of Ironsi behaving to type. They cover other tribes' lands out of sheer greed and insatiable appetite. |

They want to indigenize fulani herding terrorist so that in a few years time they will be in all leadership positions in nigeria. The igbos always go home during Christmas, same with other tribes, its only fulani that refuse to go anywhere because they are not indigenous to nigeria |

Check the names of the sponsors, it is same people who are being chased in Ghana, in South Africa, in Cameroon, in India, in China, even in Saudi Arabia, US and the whole EU. But one thing is sure, if you are not Adewale , Olawale, Oluwale, Sangowale, Ogunwale, or Jesuwale, then you cannot claim to be from any part of Yoruba land |

dettolgel:Really? Do you have a say in the candidates in Lagos or Abuja? Do you even know them? If you are voting in your state, you are more likely to know the candidates, you are more likely to influence who is the candidate and your voice is more likely to be heard. You vote in Lagos, do you even know the name of your local govt chairman? Despite paying taxes in Lagos, if your road is bad who do you call? If it were your local govt back home, he would be someone you know. Someone you have access to. Someone you can make suggestions to. If you vote at home, when you talk even if to your local councilors our voices are aggregated and flow up the chain. In Lagos or Abuja nobody listens to you because the political hierarchy is shut off from non indigines. You just pay tax with no voice! So why not at least have a voice somewhere? I am not saying move back home. I am saying vote where your vote matters. Where your voice can be heard. 53% of federal revenue goes to the states and LG but nobody is watching over them because we are all in Lagos or Abuja speaking English over 47%. They keep. Telling you that the governors are the most powerful people in Nigeria. |

You vote where you pay taxes so as to keep a tab on how your tax money is being spent. Would you rather vote on policies that affect the school in your village ( where none of your children attend) or in the city wbere you live and where they attend schools? Same for healthcare and roads and other public amenities within the control of the state? I don't know of any progressive country where tax payers go elsewhere to vote rather than their city of residence and tax codes. casualobserver: |

These people are very good at letting their greed push them to do something, and wailing later when the results (which they would never consider originally due to their being blinded by greed) hits them in the face. When they brought the unification decree thinking it would favour them, they're the ones crying about it now. This yeye bill that they were pushing thinking it will give them the chance to claim other places (as they're ashamed of where they're from), when herdsmen start claiming and collecting their lands, they'll still be the ones to come and cry. |

dettolgel:That’s the theory but it doesn’t work in practice in Nigeria. You have no say over how your tax money is spent in Lagos or Abuja. That’s the reality. Meanwhile the villagers who are in the village for whom their elected officials are there kinsmen get what they want. In the Lagos where you pay taxes the locals get what they want, that’s why the bus drivers are untouchable. That’s why local street sweepers brought down a governor like Ambode who was trying to make modern waste collection reforms. The educated non indigenous tax payers do any voice or influence to counter the uneducated locals. The problem in the rural communities is that poor people want basic things. That’s why you see all these “gifts” of sewing machines, grinders, fertilizers, boreholes etc going on in our states and the councilors and governors pocket the rest of the money. People like us who know better are not there to demand more. Yet in the cities where we pay taxes your needs are ignored. Only the real locals of Lagos and Abuja have access to the powers that be. I put it to you that if you live in Abuja or Lagos and are a non indigene , you don’t know any state elected official AT ANY LEVEL. So despite paying taxes how do they listen to your needs? And how does your vote matter when they are the ones who select the candidates amongst themselves? Sit down for a few minutes and think about it. What tab are you keeping in Lagos or Abuja? We have swallowed too much western cool aid. Our western education has really messed us up. Politically, the uneducated are smarter than us. They get what they want, It’s just that their needs and demands are basic and rudimentary. The irony of the So called educated Nigerian is that he has no electoral value. To start with he is a minority segment of the population. He lives in a city where he has no influence and his town or village of origin where he would otherwise be a leading figure with influence, he has abandoned for area boys and charlatans. As such he has no political influence or electoral value in the political landscape of Nigeria. So he goes on AriseTv and Twitter and starts to speak English or making noise online or conducting meaningless online polls. If you point out where he has gotten it wrong he starts to tell you about foreign or progressive countries. These countries you point to and copy are not structural constituted like we are. In terms of education, tribal structure, enlightenment and exposure of the populace. Again there is a difference between education that prepares you to regurgitate learned subjects in exams and one that encourages you to think. A degree does not mean you are intelligent, it means you were able to remmember things in a particular subject area for a period of 1hr during an exam. Nigeria is sadly evidence of that. I have met a lot of very unintelligent PHD holders but knowledgeable in their fields. Once they start to talk outside of their area of expertise you wonder if this person went to school! At the end of the day all politics is local and influence determines the priorities of any govt not your vote. If you are not an indigene you are shut off from govt you have no access or influence. Government is not for 1 day at the poll every 4 years but which elected official you have access to call or influence during the term of an administration! If you are not a indigene of where you vote, you have to be extremely successful or connected to have any voice in the governance of your community or state. Whereas if you vote in your state and maintain a presence you have influence at some level by default as an educated son of the soil. Simple as ABC! As a voter where you are right now (I assume you are in Lagos or Abuja) what have you had any influence over? How has your vote mattered? If we move our voting to our towns and villages and establish a presence there. By virtue of our families being known in the community, you automatically will get to know the state assembly member, the house of rep member and possibly the senator for your constituency by default. Furthermore you will be able to influence the locals on how to vote by interacting with them. They will look up to you as someone from a known and prominent family in the community and as someone successful from the “city”. In Lagos or Abuja you are a nobody. Abandoning the politics of our towns and villagers were we are by default influential if not “kingmakers” to become nobodies without influence in the cities. Forgetting that out of 109 senators not more than 4 come from Lagos and Abuja shows the dumbing effect of western education on our critical thinking abilities. |

Let me ask you, let assume your parents are from Osun State and you were born and raised in Abuja metropolis. You know the neighbourhood very well and your life has been shaped around the policies made there over the years from the local government level up to state level. So you are telling me that suddenly when you are of age to vote, you are told to go down to Osun state and vote for someone whose policies for the past years have no effect on how you have lived your life and won't even affect your life in anyways after the election? I really don't understand this your logic, please make it make sense ![]() casualobserver: |

dettolgel:I understand what you are saying. But I am telling you the reality. We are in danger of creating 2 countries in one. Once country of the a handful of cities where the educated live but have no influence in it’s administration and politics because they are not natives and another country of the rural communities controlled by charlatans because there is a lack of presence of enlightened educated people. At the end of the day, the majority (90+%) of the 109 senators and 360 house of rep members are elected from the rural areas. As an educated person living in the city, these are the people who control your destiny. So when you say the senator represenating a rural village in Osun state has no effect on how you live you are wrong. Most of them are charlatans and they are the majority in the senate and house of rep and they are elected by uneducated villagers because people like us have no presence or influence there. At the end of the day all of us concentrate our voting powe in Lagos Abuja etc to produce a maximum of 10 senators over whom we have no say in the selection process while the other 99 are produced in our villages by people whose aspirations and expectations are totally different from ours. Even if our 10 senators mean well, they will always be outvoted by the 99. Does that display intelligence on our part? Do you now see the problem? We can make excuses or we can start to make amends. But we get what we work for. I have made it a personal mission to change my voting PU to my father’s village. If we all did this things would start to change. Going home every election cycle is not a sacrifice for better government plus. What is the point of our education o my to be governed by charlatans? What is the point of our education if we leave the uneducated to decide our leaders? What is the point in all the educated gathering in the cities to elect 10 senators max and leave the uneducated to elect 99? Does that really show we are educated and understand how democracy works or that we are merely western educated in a particular field who don’t think right? What is the essence of our quest for education if not to identify a problem and solve it? Nobody is going to hand this good governance to us and we aren’t going to get it by speaking English from Abuja and Lagos, on Arise TV and Twitter! I’d Ab Initio we are a minority, we don’t help ourselves by not using our brains. We need to spread our influence like our fathers who worked in the cities but returned to their ancestral homes to vote. 10m educated voters cramming themselves in Lagos only produce 3 senators. Those educated city voters spread around the country could have a greater influence on the types of people who represent us at the national level. Like I said it’s not like your votes in the cities make a difference to state governance. So why not use your vote where it counts. Nobody said it is easy. But all of us voting in Lagos and Abuja is not intelligent use of our votes and influence and quite honestly betrays our claims to be educated. |
