The Truth About Tithing by gobuchinny(op): 5:42pm On Sep 02, 2019
Many believers have misinterpreted scripture and have allowed men of gold mis-represent scriptures. Firstly, believers must understand what the new testament or covenant is about. We must understand that there is an old so as there is a new. Under the old so many things were applicable and allowed. Can you imagine the God you now serve will be happy with you for killing your enemy infact one instance He was angry with Saul for not killing Israel's enemy. In that era the man that was said to be beloved of God was a killer, i mean David grin.

You see a new set of rules were applicable. there were the ordinances, the temple and all the laws that govern the people Israel. Now we wont even begin to speak about the era before the law or before the nation Israel was formed. If you loved God then you must obey the law. you must keep the sabbath, you observe all the feasts as dedicated to the Lord. the Levis were dedicated to the altar of the Lord in service. All the priests must come from the sons of Levi particularly the sons of Aaron the Kohanim (aaronic priesthood). Recall that these priest were dedicated to the service of the temple (keep in mind this temple was built in accordance and specification by God) the Kohanim in particular were the priest serving in the temple. the administered the daily sacrifical offerings, there were the priests and high priests as elected per time. the levites who were not Kohanim played music in the temple or served as guards in the temple.

The tithe was to help them survive as these levites were dedicated to the service of the temple. All these were under the old testament. Now Hebrews 8 vs 5v tells us that Moses built the temple based on the pattern he had seen, meaning he built as shown by God. its this temple God inhabited that had all those outer and inner court and holiest of holiest which only the high priest entered once a year shocked

In this new dispensation, there is no temple grin. there are no priests grin and there is no more offerings for sins sacrifices done by one person on behalf of the people as Jesus has accomplished that task once and for all. So we all are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people a chosen generation. Rev 1 VS 6. We are all to approach the throne of grace and obtain grace to help in time of need. we are to come boldly as the veil has been torn grin.

Recall that in the past God only had his covenant children, the Israelite. there were the chosen but in this era the gentiles were grafted in. the issue arose in the days of Paul that the gentiles should be circumcised. Remember that God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision Gen 17 vs 10. and that any one that didn't comply was to be cut off grin this was the same issue that Apostle Paul had with some Jewish Christians like himself who wanted to bring the observance of the law of circumcision which was also part of the mosaic laws that the children of Israel had to obey. These was a law that was obeyed from the abrahamic dynasty, there was no law of tithe put of circumcision which followed from Abraham till reiterated again by God meaning it was of importance. Is the same law that Paul was rebuking and warning the Galatians not to fall into. Please understand that the book of Galatians was a rebuke because these Christians had fallen for the tricks of those jewish beleivers telling the people to obey the laws, observe the feasts, circumcise and so forth. there was even no issue raised on tithing. i can imagine if that was the case Paul would have rent his cloths and be naked in anger. grin

The old law is done away with with the temple, no physical temple Hebrew 9 vs 1 "Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a wordly sanctuary grin. But we all know that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. No levis, even in Act 4 vs 37, a levite shocked named Joses Barnabas sold his land and laid the money at the apostles feet for onward distribution to the saints.

HEBREWS 7 These is one of the most mis interpreted scripture on tithing. Understand that the high priests and priests that do service in the courts of the Lord in the old testaments were from the sons of Aaron. you coudnt serve in the alter if you were no a levi and of particular of a direct descendant from Aaron. Now this was for the earthly tabernacle. recall that these tabernacle on earth was built in accordance with the heavenly tabernacle. Heb 8 vs 1-2 but this old law was not perfect as fault was found in it Heb 8 vs 7, hence the death of Christ. but Christ had to come in human form and the laws of God could not be broken so if He was to be a high priest he must come from a lineage as all priest came from Aaron. This is where Melchisedec come in because Christ is from the order of Melchisedec as Priest were from the order of Aaron for Kohanim and Levi. Now Abraham who was the father of Israel and being a prophet of God recognized this order and saw afar off. He paid tithe in homage to that order and the bible says that even Levi paid tithe from the loins of Abraham signifying the superiority of the order of Christ.
vs 5 "And verily they are the sons of Levi who receive the office the priesthood have a commandment to take tithe of the people, according to the law...." See the sons of Levi HAVE A COMMANDMENT TO TAKE TITHE shocked.

If therefore perfection were by the levitcal preisthood what further need was there that ANOTHER PRIEST should rise AFTER THE ORDER OF MELCHISEDEC, for the PRIESTHOOD BEING CHANGED, THERE IS MADE OF NECESSITY A CHANGE ALSO OF THE LAW" shocked shocked shocked
See friends, that the Law has been abolished? do yOu really think that if the apostles paid tithes that the scriptures wont report it? please think critically. these events we read are also historical events and their actions ACTS were openly reported. Please do not be deceived and study your scriptures to understand the new covenant. study especially the new testaments to fully understand what Jesus Christ came to do for us and stop allowing these religious charlatans corner the commonwealth of believers for only themselves and families and close associates grin

Thanks so much for this six year old comment.

It is nairaland comments like this one that helped me confirm my own thoughts on the obsolescence of the tithe law, several years ago.

They triggered my curiosity and with the availability of Google search results I was saved from the yoke of guilt trapping by gods of men who are ravenous charlatans in cassocks.

The obsolete Jewish tithing laws are far from the practice of Christians today. They are closer to the bazaar festival of Catholics.

Deuteronomy 14

22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.
23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always.
24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away),
25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose.
26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice.
27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.

28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns,
29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

I don't know what people are still doing in churches in Africa. Anytime you find yourself in church you sell your birth-right and dignity to pastors for nothing.

John 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem(Church building or Temple), worship the Father.

If you stay in your house and worship your God quietly who will exploit you with tithing?

In the Uk, nobody send church.
Infact, pastors are begging people to come!

Pastors are so poor in the Uk, yet they are self sufficient.
But in Nigeria in the name of fear of poverty, one pastor go dey fly private jet, buy exotic cars and show up with flamboyant lifestyle, yet they are not working.

They will never be self sufficient

All our industries in Alausa have closed down, and their warehouses have been converted to churches.
Very faulty societal ideology grin

First, it is not a Jewish thingy but a Commandment of God

Then, secondly why would you not like it? Is it that you were happy to give before? So you have only seen what you would like to hear exactly how adulterers are happy to hear something that sounds like they can have more wives

The Jewish God.

Does your own tribe’s Unknown God require you EAT tithes of your agricultural produce also?

Acts 17:23
God does not belong to the Jews alone as proven by the fact that there was nothing like Jew when He picked the man and family He wanted to use to work with.

So I subscribe to Him and His Commandments and they are reasonable, so why would I not eat my offering when I cannot travel to Akronpong to drop it?

And why do you people talk like you have no sense? In those days were there oil workers, bankers, mechanics etc?

Even in 1980 agriculture was the main stay of this country.

See, we get it, you are an atheist, so hating and disregarding God is your purpose in life but the most important thing is that no one is forcing you to pay tithes, so you can continue to walk your way. It is up to your Maker to judge you, but e go bad for you well well if God Who chose Abraham is the one in charge

Where did I say that anyone is forcing me to do anything?

Not everyone was a farmer when the law of EATING their tithes was made, since they could sell their farm produce for money and buy alcohol etc to feast on when they get to the point where tithes are meant to be eaten by the people themselves.

What % of the world in China, India, Japan and other Asian countries are not relating with the Unknown God in the Abrahamic monotheistic religions huh

Since no one is forcing you then you have no business with the tithe. And this just means that you are only complaining about the tithe simply because of the thieves on the pulpit.

Re: The Truth About Tithing by MightySparrow:
The OP has left me more confused than clarity he aimed at bringing to the platform.

1. There are two lines of priesthood. (a) Melchizedek's priesthood and (b) Aaronic.

2. Aaronic priesthood was temporal as well as the Law.

3. Jesus came through the line of Melchizedek's priesthood.

4. An order is not the essence or vital part of priesthood but a channel.

5. Tithing preceded the Law, because it is part of Priesthood, levitical priests had to pay, and did pay in Abraham.

6. Tithe of tithes were gathered by Levites and burned as heave offering. The whole thing did not stop at their table.

7. The Law expanded the scope of tithing not the essence.

8. The Law was added, a borrowed course (an addition, an addendum) not the syllabus.

9. The Law was a turning point (point of inflection), not the function/equation.

10. Only two things are mentioned about Melchizedek's Priesthood: tithe and blessing.

11. Jesus talked about the change of Sabbath, Himself being the rest

12. He did not speak against tithing because it was not originally part of the Law as sabbath was not.

13. If tithe is removed, only the blessing is remaining.

14. Greed is the only reason for not tithing. Folks only want the blessing not the giving.

15. The write -up has not really convinced me that tithing in the New Testament is not allowed.
