Do you know Nigeria was spending billions of dollars a year to prop up the naira?

Does your region produce even 1 million dollars a year to pay for that?

The Naira is its True Value now.

To make it stronger, you buy Made in Nigeria.

When you see Aba made shoes, don't laugh and choose Italian made.

Because you pay for that in dollars or Euros.

When you walk into a shop to buy a wristwatch and you see a Nigerian made watch and a Swiss watch, buy the Nigerian made watch.

That is how you raise the value of your currency.

The more demand for a particular currency to pay for goods and services, the higher the value of the currency.

That's how it works. You don't force it.

If you don't use naira for major purchases of Made in Nigeria goods, but prefer imports, you can never have a high valued currency.

All Tinubu did was bring you back to reality.

The other day I posted a thread on how Nigerian women spend nearly a billion dollars every year on imported dog hair from Brazil.

If they decided to make indigenous hairstyles and braids, plaits trend, that could create 5 million new jobs for local hair stylists, and raise the naira value. Multiply that by other sectors. The naira value would rise in value overnight.

You are your own worst enemies, not Tinubu.

You are probably standing there dressed head to toe in imported gear - jeans t shirt, sneakers. None made in Nigeria.

Yet you expect high naira value. How?

Go to China today and present a Chinese man on the street with two pairs of shoes, one pair made in China, the other made in Italy. He will choose the one made in China, even though he knows the Italian one is of 'better quality' (supposedly).

When you understand why he did that, and apply such logic to yourselves, you will see your Naira value rise naturally as a matter of course.
You have met someone with knowledge of this topic today , I will prove to you Tinubu doesn't know what he is doing .

When Tinubu came in Nigeria was spending 8 billion dollars annually to prop the Naira , Tinubu in his careless nature recklessly devalued the Naira and made the economy lose 220 billion dollars in one year , how can you lose 220bn to save 8 billion .. let's do the maths further this year 2025 the Tinubu govt is on track to spend 2.6 billion dollars defending the Naira , meaning in reality our economy lost 220 billion dollars to save a paltry 5.4 billion dollars ....if we were spending 5.4 billion dollars to defend the Naira annually it would take Nigerian 40 years to go through 220 billion dollars yet Tinubu has eroded 40 years in one years in other to recoup 1 year.

If that's not spectacular failure then tell me what it is

Just shut it. The British pound has a higher exchange value to the US dollar, when had a US president ever gave it precedence over the greenback?. That's what is in discussion here.

What we have is a Nigeria president openly disparaging and insulting his own economy. This same man already told us that he does not believe in one Nigeria.

Obviously, his ascendance to the highest office in the land was fraudulently achieved, he therefore, ought to be shown the door at the earliest opportunity.

this long epistle of yours is unnecessary here. It should rather be directed at Tinubu and his family, Akpabio and his family, Wike and his family and the rest of them. Who goes for medical tourism abroad when there are hospitals here, wasting away foreign currencies? Who are the ones who would rather have their children school overseas when there are schools here? Who would rather import high end SUVs when there's IVM and the others? .....you know the answers to these but would rather heap blames on the common man. Na wa for you o!
Very nice points. He is urging Nigerians to patronise Nigerian goods and services to boost the naira implying blame on Nigerians for the decline of the currency but he is selectively deaf and blind to the reckless spending of the politicians on foreign goods and services. He should have mentioned the Naira value only of whatever reward was being given to the Cup winners. The US dollar had no business there. The Naira (though bruised and battered) is still the national currency after all.

In a short while, some government person will come on air to complain about dollarization among ordinary Nigerians. But the problem is coming from the very top. undecided

It has been a tradition for every federal government in Nigeria to give cash or monetary gratification to national teams that win major tournaments, it was done under Obasanjo, Jonathan, Buhari and currently Tinubu.

The price money from CAF to NFA, in recognition of Super Falcons achievement, is a million USDollars. Why are you not complaining about CAF transacting with USD?

Convert the £80,000 pounds, given to each member of the England Womens National Team, to naira - that is about ₦163M. Then also convert the 100,000USD from the Nigerian President to naira, of which the naira equivalent is the amount payable to each Super Falcons member - that is about ₦160M.

The £80,000 given to the lioness each was tagged Bonus for winning the tournament, it was exceptional and separate from their wining bonuses and camp allowances. It was in appreciation of their contribution, irrespective of whether it was deducted from the money won from the organizers of the tournament or from the government.

In Nigeria and every part of the world, government can't directly tamper with NFA funds that were donated to them(NFA) and we can't be so sure that NFA will exceptionally gratify the super Falcons players on achieving the feat. Hence, the federal government took the initiative as a tradition.

Are you saying the Super Falcons don't deserve the reward? What exactly is your point?
Where in my post did I complained if they were paid in dollars or not. And as for CAF paying in dollars, it's bcus the tournament was played in Morocco and they can pay in Morocco's currency but in one of the universally accepted currency then you go change it to your own currency.
As for being it tradition for our govt to reward sporting excellence, I don't know who started it but OBJ gives national reward with handshake and no monetary rewards.
I'm coming my phone is almost down, I will give you full analysis of how money are being paid for players both in the tournament and after the tournament.

So what is your complaint?

You just lied about Obasanjo's government. The Obasanjo's government gave monetary gratification to:

₦1M each to Super Falcons
₦1M each to Scrabble Team members
₦57M to U-19 Female National Team
₦27M to Flying Eagles (U-21) team

Go and do your research properly before spewing misinformation and lies on nairaland.

You know nothing about macroeconomics.

You think trade is about sentiments?

Favourable balance of trade implies developing and exporting commodities you're good at and importing the ones you're weak in.

Nigeria has leverage in gold, petroleum, cash crops, human capital etc.
These are markets that should be given unfair advantage and developed.

We currently don't produce enough rice to feed ourselves, not to even talk about export.
We have no business blockading imports of things we don't sufficiently produce, or forcing products we're not good at, down people's throats.

I would choose a Swiss watch over a Nigerian watch any day.
I would choose Nigerian palm oil over palm oil from anywhere else.

Our leaders are either ignorant or don't take their advisers seriously.

Is Tinubu Nigeria?

Of what impact is what he buys compared to what 250 million people decide to buy?

The problem with you lot is that you've made the role of your ''leaders'' so paramount in your lives that there is no room for your own brains to think.

What stops You and today's youth from promoting Nigerian-made so as to shore up the Naira value?

You all have internet and social media. Why don't you use it for something fruitful?

Instead of looking for ''our leaders'' to blame for naira value, why not also be ''leaders'' and start a social media campaign to elevate indigenous hairstyles, and ditch Brazilian hair imports and imported bleaching creams?

Or promote indigenous fashion like light Dashiki over jeans and t-shirts?

Make it 'trend'?

These are mindset adjustments that can generate millions of new jobs and raise the Naira value, virtually overnight.

But no. Tinubu must magically raise the Naira value for you while you cover yourself in imports.

Keep waiting.
So Tinubu's Free to patronize made in foreign goods while the masses are encouraged to buy made in Nigeria goods?
He is free to go to foreign hospitals for treatment while we are told to patronize local chemists?
