That's your reality, others have different reality,I too grew up in LAGOS during the military era,I grew up in apapa and it was a beautiful place back then, granted Lagos suffered a period of deterioration especially in the 90s and was revived by fashola but that doesn't take away the prior development which the military had implemented, there's still mounting heaps of rubbish all over LAGOS, etc,by the way a lot of places in other states have also become modern and improved, its just modernity and growth,it's not peculiar to LAGOS, what makes Lagos peculiar is the prior foundation of being a former capital.
What's special about apapa if not the ports terminal there....Do you went through the holds between that place and mile two....
The same developments the Military did in Lagos was replicated in other places too ....
Give credit to the Civilian Governments too they did a good job...
You might grow up in choice areas and they were very few most places werent as populated as we have now ...as far 80s and 90s
People suddenly migrated in mass in the last 20yrs than it was in History...
Claiming Lagos was built by Migrants and Military denying any involvements of the British and the Locals contribution that's very Disrespectful to say the least ...
London and Paris is still dominated by Asians yet you don't hear them saying trash as some people do here in Nigeria it would definitely provoke hate and and a backlash...
Yet they're still fears in the heart of British concerning growing migrant propulation taking up privileges abusing their liberty and civilization....
You can't usurp Lagos state it won't go away to strangers in the name of one Nigeria while they hold on their own regions ...
Akinola Aguda the geographer that crafted Abuja was tagged traitor then by most Yorubas ..Many people who weren't Yorubas cheered him on believing that Lagos won't progress any longer ....Only for it to even blossom far more than Abuja ...
It has been in the spirit of South West to have Excellent Administrators it's not new right from history ...from Awolowo to Jakande, to Obj to even Men of God and Military Men ....
Calabar , Lokoja have been Capitals, Warri Port Abuja Harcourt have sea ports and air ports and they are Federal Presence in this places as much Lagos why aren't people migrating towards there...
It tells you something about Lagos it's liberal culture and ease of assimilation

You mean the port owned and built by the Portuguese?
The Port of Lagos belonged to the Oba of Lagos
That was common Knowledge
The Port of Badagry belonged to the Alaafin of Oyo who was military ally
and protector of the Eguns and Ewes ,
Porto Novo in Benin republic also belonged to Alaafin who captured it from the king of Dahomey
Alaafin had also captured the port of Cotonou but the British gave it to the French Colonial
Govt of Dahomey who later returned it to the Fon of Dahomey in an agreement between themselves

Don’t pity the kings of Dahomey, they were renowned for their wickedness
There was no such thing as Mercy in their vocabulary
The only benevolent and Merciful king of Dahomey was murdered within 2 years
by his Rivals for the Throne because he abolished the Slave Trade

Let's stop the hypocrisy and be honest. It is FG investments in Lagos that made it what it has become.
Without those investments, Lagos would be what it is today.
Lagos was already the busiest port in West Africa long before the British turned up
It was already the commercial capital of Yorubaland

Not true, the British made LAGOS commercial, LAGOS was nothing before the British.

The Portuguese preferred trade with Benin, ijebu and badagry,

Again the British made LAGOS what it is

You are right. It was not built. It was a natural harbour. Developed by the Benin Empire.

The first port used in Lagos by the Portuguese was Ebutte Metta controlled by the Awori Oloto of Oto who was under Alaafin Oyo

That was in the late 14th Century and 15th Century

Benin joined the cashing out party late

In 1906 before Nigeria was created Lugard had already predicted that Lagos was going to be an African Economic power
In 1851 Lagos was already the Busiest port in West Africa

Wailing will not change it

In the 1840s Oba of lagos sent his Palace Officials Dada Antonio from Ede and Tapa Oshodi to Brazil to study Shipping and Shipping finance.
They also visited UK and Germany

No, the first port in Lagos was established by the Oba of Benin.

But then, the first organized trading port in Lagos was developed much later, by European powers, especially the Portuguese in the 15th century, followed by the British in the 19th century.

The British established a formal port and customs system after they annexed Lagos in 1861. The Port of Lagos as a colonial and commercial institution began to take shape in the late 1800s to early 1900s.

So it was basically a local, unimportant port under the Benin Oba and later under the Awori

Since the January 1966 failed coup hijacked by Ironsi, has Obasanjo not been military dictator for three years and later served as democratically elected president for eight years?

This means he is the longest ruler of Nigeria. Ebilokan has also served as president for over two years now.

Why have they failed to reverse the mess of ironsi? Do you know why?

Meanwhile, what magical witchcraft did you use to know that Ironsi is my kinsman?
That's why till today we are still your saviour in Nigeria. The population of your people enjoying economic asylum in the SW today is more than the combined population of your kinsmen that remains in 2 states in your region. As I type now, many are already rushing to catch the night bus to escape your enclave for survival in the SW. Be grateful!

LAGOS wasn't the busiest port in West Africa by 1851 it's all complete lies, bring your proof,LAGOS was simply just the highest trade point for SLAVES at that TIME, due to the collapse of oyo and the resulting wars.

The oba of LAGOS and his officials were simply trading SLAVES, not much essential goods were being traded via LAGOS port at the time, the bonny,Calabar and Benin river port were were real trade was happening at that era

What gives your tribal mind the ability to know that I am not Yoruba, based on just one nairaland comment huh

edet19892015:
Unless you understand your role in society, you can never make any meaningful contribution.

According to the Greeks, they are three types of people on Earth,
1. The idiots,
2. The tribesmen, and
3. The citizens.

Studies show only 10% of Africans are citizens.
The remaining 90% are either tribesmen or idiots.

1. When the Greeks used the word "Idiot", they did not use it as a curse word.
Idiots are people who just don’t care.
If they sit for exams, they will cheat.
If they are in government they will steal.

An idiot does not care at all, if he eats bananas he throws the peels anywhere instead of putting them in a trash bin.

IDIOTS won't attend monthly neighborhood meetings. They won't pay security dues. They won't contribute to community development. Even when they see or know about something that will harm others in the community they won't report it. When they see/know/have something that will benefit their community they won't share.

In fact, Idiots don't care to register for or vote in an election, yet they complain the most. If they register to vote, IDIOTS will sell their votes for peanuts.

According to the Greeks, some societies have more idiots than tribesmen and citizens.

2. The next set of people are "Tribesmen", these are people that look at everything from the point of view of their tribe.

These are people that believe in you only if you are part of their tribe.
It can be terrible to have a tribesman as a leader, he will alienate the rest.

When the Greeks talk about tribes, it’s not just about ethnicity, they also consider religion, gang membership, group membership, party membership and even cult membership as a tribe.

A great percentage of Africans are tribesmen, because they view everything from the point of view of their tribes. They trust only their tribesmen

3. The last group are "Citizens".
These are people who like to do things the right way.
They will respect traffic light rules even if no one is watching them.

They drive within speed limits.
They respect the laws, and won’t cheat in exams.
In government, they won’t steal.
They are compassionate and give to others to promote their well-being.

Citizens often promote projects that benefit everyone.
The Greeks called this group "The Citizens".

Some countries have more citizens than tribesmen and idiots, others have so many idiots.

A tribesman can become a citizen through orientation.
And an idiot can become a citizen by training and constant enforcement of the law.

But things fall apart if you elect an idiot or tribesman to lead you if he has not been reformed.

Where do you belong? Are you an idiot, a tribesman or a citizen? Reflect on your life.
Reflect about your immediate community, city, state and nation.

Once they move Abuja to another place ....you think Abuja would have people moving there??...
People move to places they're liberal like the west than some wealthy Asian countries ..
They're many wealthy countries per Capita in the middle east than the UK and even US yet people aren't migrating there ...
Places like Ibadan have also witness rising population of migrants for the same reason as of recent though can't be compared to Lagos ...
