I opened an account for my son with zenith bank and the account is showing my son is owing the bank. I told them to close the account when I noticed the nonsense they did while in the process of opening it.

Same thing happened to me with GTB -17k, I left it in debit & didn’t use the Acc for almost 3 years cuz when I went to complain they couldn’t do anything about it. I just cleared the debit this week cuz my dollar card just expired and I need to get a new one.

Hope you know flow and float gives some people COT concession? So many people do not understand banking and it's appalling though not strange because major targets understand this stuffs.

I witnessed an almost similar situation last year while in access Bank to process my ATM.

A customer walked in in anger and it's clear the bank staff know him already (perhaps he's been there several times).

He said he took a loan but paid back before the due date. Money (over 100k) was sent to his account and they wiped it out that is loan. He complained and they promised to fix it. Another money dropped they still wiped it out that it is loan. And the guy was to have his wedding on a Saturday and the incident happened on Thursday 😂😂😂

His bride to be followed him this time around to the bank. Omo, come hear English from both sides. The lady just deh vex, the guy say e no go leave the bank till everything the bank is owing him is paid fully, with interest for damages 😂😂

I later leave. But true, many bank workers no pure these days.

bro this thing happened to me few weeks ago. The same gtb bank. This guys gave me -14k exactly like this guy. Im yet to go there, but I’ll surely make case if I’m there.

Na only GTBank dey do this rubbish , it's possible he didn't borrow the money. If there's no money in your account and the month ends they will still deduct you for sms alerts and other bank fees for the month meaning you'll end up with a negative balance. I was once having -1800 in my account and I promised never to use their account again until one idiot went to pay some money into my account without informing me he was going to pay to that particular account

First bank did same to me in 2014, mine was 500,000.
I went to like 2 of their branches, they all referred me to their headquarter, it was at their headquarter that the case was resolved.

GTBank and doings. They'll report him to credit bureau saying he missed his loan repayment even if the negative balance wasn't due to any loan. Tell him to check his credit score you'll see what I mean.

I had to close my current account in GTBank cus of this negative balance nonsense

Out of ignorance some people still think having negative balance must be due to loan collection, they don't know our Nigeria banks are desperate to make profit. Especially traditional banks. My mum's experience with GTBank still dey pain me

From the picture this is GTbank app, and their quick credit can be obtained through USSD code on Number register with the bank ask him if he has ever request or done sim welcome back ... because someone have use the sim before he initiate the welcome back if has done one recently ooh

Also if not loan, he might receive some transfer from bank like Opay or Palmpay and the sender might just send refund and lodge a complain to their bank that they did not initiate the transfer ....after 14 days they will honor the request even if the receiver did not have any money immediately they will only put negative balance

This may be due to bank charges that don't post to the account until the end of the billing cycle. Before the charges, your friend probably had made withdrwawals or had credit below the amount of the charges. He can simply click on the transaction history or request bank statement to see the charges. It's not everything you run to the internet to complain. Do the research first.

Hmm I think you're right anyway, I have not used GT for a while, I mistakenly gave the account to one of my customer , the Woman sent 15,000 to me and I saw the alert of the 15,000 but when I checked my app, I only met 14, I was curious at first because the money is ment for something else, not even mine.

Since then I have resorted in using all this online banking.

Same date am going through right now at zenith bank,l open a coperate account four years ago with 10k and according to the guy,the account needed Schuml with l could not process at the time and l eft the account like that which l never used even for a day,l went to process a long at one of my bank and l was referred back to zenith from credit beareau that am owing, getting to zenith l realise according to their information that the money l paid was not enough for CAC search which left a deficit of minus 28k in the account which l angrily paid as to get cleared from credit beareau but until now, zenith bank is still acting funny and am yet to be cleaned.Very soon l will be suing ZENITH BANK

I petitioned CBN no way no reply

I experienced the same thing with FCMB too, exactly the same way you explained it. I've dumped them since.

I read through the comment session to see if anyone would tell you what to do but unfortunately there are making assumptions 😂 it is normal with GTbank. In fact I’ve had similar issue since October last year till date. Once in a while they’d put my account on negative. Sometimes they’d even deducted both my current balance and put me on negative. Just walk into the banking hall and make your complain. Personally the customer care in the Gtbank near me calls me customer now cus of this issue. Once I notice it,I go carry myself go para for bank. Give them 2-3days they’d restore the old balance .most gtbank users have experienced this at least once since their last October system upgrade. So it’s not that deep,let him visit the bank

It is GTBank. They did same to me and lots of people. Mine was over 200k. The worst part of it is that, they will claim it's a card transaction and will never give details of what was purchased or paid for.
It's a scam! Gtbank ran into hacking problems a few years back, they also arrested about 4 content creators who exposed the ordeal online, I am not sure those guys have been released yet. Gtbank lost billions of Naira (depositors funds) in the attack but they covered it from the public and are now making illegal and fraudulent deductions from customers account (whether you have a balance or not).
I called their customer care person from the head office, she couldn't explain clearly what happened about the deductions and next she stopped picking my calls. I went to their branch, they also couldn't explain anything....
I just abandoned the account with -90,000 after they had fraudulently deducted over 100,000 for their unexplained transactions. Transactions without OTP, no email notifications, no SMS notifications about these transactions. These deductions were not even in the transaction history.
I wanted to follow up with CBN, but I no get the energy and not sure if I will even get justice.
