If you are still very young and the landlord has children your age… he might see you as one of his kids… it has nothing to do with what you can afford…plus I don think he did right by asking you to go pay for something he bought…

This made it the second time I renewed my house rent where I live presently.
Last year when it was due, the Landlord called me the same day to remind me that my rent was due. I told him to give me a little time to get the money. After five days he started calling again and was mean that he doesn't do his own like that. Finally paid him in about two weeks from the date the rent expired.

Last month the rent expired for the second time. He called again exactly the same day. I told him to give me some days. I paid him on the second day. I actually borrowed some money to make it up to pay him because I don't have it complete. The next day he came around to give me the receipt. After the receipt he told me to go and pay the bar man at nearby joint for two bottles of beer for him. I didn't know what to tell him because I haven't even paid back the money I borrowed to complete my rent. I saw him at that joint two days after, he asked me about the drink I said later.

Should I buy him the drink?
Does he think I have enough money because I paid the rent immediately?
I asked the other two guys if they have paid they said no. Three of us came in the same period so we renew the same day.

Age has a lot to do with it as it's clear you don't seem experienced in this world or either don't look it.

As for Lagos, nobody pays rent exactly when due. I had a Landlord that we started fighting after the first day I moved in cause of his preferential treatment of other tenants and other issues. I paid rent for the next 2 subsequent dates on the date due. The man had to call me and say he has never seen a tennant like me in his life!

When he sold the property to another landlord, he introduced as the best tennant in the house despite the fact I was the only one fighting him. Landlords in Lagos don't expect their rents on the day due...you have a 2 week period that is standard but more importantly they just want you to confirm when they should expect their money.

The funniest part be say your guys never even pay but because you pay sharp sharp oga landlord think say you dey swim inside money. Make he go collect beer from the other two wey still dey owe maybe dem go add pepper soup. For now just smile and dodge am. Tell am say your account dey on life support

Paying your rent is the only obligation you own him.
I don't see why this, unless you both buy drinks for each other previously.
Bedsides asking you to go and pay for a drink he drank in your absence is derogatory.
I hope you are not asked to pay his other bills.

You need to review your relationship with him. Restrict communication to strictly relevant issues.

Learn to stay indoors when you are around. It creates a sense of respect.

Your rent is supposed to be in your account some months before due date. The story shows that you dont have a single savings from year to year. Is it how you will raise kids and become successful? Move to your level and focus on savings. Don't live to please people

Exactly my thoughts.
I know many people who pay their rent one month after expiration and some even stay more than that. The way he was talking that first time even when it wasn't up to two weeks. Now he wants me to buy him drink. Well I may just buy him the drink but he is inconsiderate.
