Even in the US Car prices very widely based on various conditions, like mileage, usage, place of purchase etc...

The only issue is when the actual car condition and price doesn't match the market value or even sentimental value.

If e don reach your turn endeavor to run your business how it pleases you, for una mind car dealer dey enjoy, sell your papa house make you use am do the business and after 3 months of making sales you buy another house coz e be like you know the business well well
Oga which ship catch fire? Na petrol you dey import or car. Those cars/ cargos are insured . If you ordered something and did not get it that's because you ventured into a business you don't know. Anything I ordered I get exactly that oga. If custom duty is increased then increase price of car or stop the business altogether if you can't cope. I still import cars strictly on pre order and I don't have any complaints.

Please tell me, where in Nigeria would you see a 2015 Toyota Camry for 15-17mhuhhuh?

The last 2012 Camry I priced at a car stand, I was told 17m last price, I went and the seller never dreamed to call me back.
1) you need to have good contacts in USA to help with shipping and logistics. Using those Companies like auction export make the car super expensive and erodes all your gains.

2) register with copart or iaai yourself preferably or get your contact to do so for you

3) always target states with ports like Texas , Florida or New York for your purchases from auction. It reduces risk and logistics costs

4) if you want meaningful gain always target accident cars ( front collision) or cars that don't start

5) have a good clearing agent in Nigeria . He will help you with short payment. This aspect is very important in your overall profitability. Example a Benz 2017 with a very good frontal impact that disfigured the car and deployed all airbags can easily be cleared with N7million instead of N15million for clearing alone. That gain from clearing alone can be used to repair the car completely . Remember because of the accident you probably bought it $4,000 or less. After repair you can sell it slightly less than the average selling price of such vehicle and make over 100% gain

6) you need a good mechanic, panel beater etc

7) always target flooded cars ( freshwater not salt water ooo), accident front impact , very high milage cars etc run away from clean cars if not you will end up driving it yourself

I have been in business since 2012. Let's discuss another point.

It depends on what you mean by excessive profit based on the economic indices involved...

Don't polish evil to make it appear beautiful. Most Nigerians are naturally wicked in nature but always put the blame on government.

You must not exploit people because you have family to feed, the customers who patronize you also have families to feed.

making money to feed their families shouldn't make them exploitative and cheating, is 1M profit margin not enough?
Rent, staff salaries, FG, state and local taxes, bills, kickbacks. Also note that they sell to you according to your bargaining skill. Profit is never static.

In addition, some sales leave behind zero profit and huge losses. Business, especially sales, takes ingenuity.

Everything u have listed above is what majority of the dealers do, however, we will also be the first to complain and cry foul after buying a car from a dealer and later discovering from vin checks that the car was badly accidents (damaged frontal/ bad chassis and with all Airbags deployed).

The question is can majority of Nigerians afford clean title vehicleshuh

So because a car dealer wants to feed their family, they should load all their profit and expenses onto a single car sale? Some of you reason in the most irrational ways.
They need to secure their cars day in day out until sales. One Tyre rim is about N400,000. The cars are washed daily and weekly.

whr did you see month in my analysis? I said per annum. Moreover this high end cars ain't sold daily or monthly, their demand are limited. Some cars might stay on the stand for 1yr before they are sold.

Excessive is excessive. Even in capitalist economies like USA and others, you can't just sell to the public at ridiculously high profits.

It is funny that you don't seem to realise that this kind of practice is contributing to the non stop hyper inflation we're having. This is basic Economic 101.

Re: Nigerian Man Questions Auto Dealers Over Shocking SUV Price Difference by 12inchess: 1:57pm On Aug 08, 2025
I recently started this importation cars business for Toks cars. So far I have spent 50 million naira to import a container of 4 cars. By the time the car gets to nigeria. I will spend another 25million for clearing and car repairs. So a total of 75 million naira invested. It will take say 6-12 months to sell all the 4 cars and recoup my investment. So my money is tied down for about a year. If I demand profit of 15- 20 million is that too much for the risk of my investement of 75 million? You guys are just unrealistic. If I cannot get such profit, then I'd rather just invest my 75 million in the U.S stock market and be counting dollar profits. Mscheww. angry

Do the business first before you complain.

Almost all the toks cars sold in Nigeria are accidented and fixed in Nigeria. Nigerians cannot afford clean title cars. If you want a car without any accident then go to auction and buy it yourself and then see how much the car will be by the time it gets to Nigeria. It will be fcking expensive.
