Renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has reaffirmed her strong support for Labour Party presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, describing him as a selfless and accountable leader who stands out in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Adichie, a vocal supporter of Obi during the 2023 presidential election, said her backing is based on her belief in his sincerity, humility, and deep commitment to national development—not personal ambition.

On the question of Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition, Adichie remained cautious, saying, “I don’t want to speak on how I’d feel if he’s not a candidate. I prefer not to think about that yet. We’ll wait and see what happens.”

Adichie played a visible role in Obi’s 2023 campaign, endorsing him through social media, a heartfelt birthday tribute, and a campaign video. After the election, where Obi placed third behind President Bola Tinubu, she penned an open letter to U.S. President Joe Biden, questioning the credibility of the electoral process. Her appearance at the Presidential Election Tribunal in Abuja further underscored her support.

Nomatter how educated or socially acclaimed a black man (or woman) is, sentiment and primordial considerations will always take preeminence and front row in his/her views, stance and opinions. He's right. We see it all the time across Africa. Tribalism is the first thing that dictates mainly the way we feel about one another especially when it comes to politics. Even the most educated ones amongst us are not immune to this, just like chimamanda.
Do you think she would fight for an Osinbajo the same way she has been fighting for Obi? She is very tribalistic and she hasn't hidden it even before the 2023 election. Same goes for Soyinka and Achebe too
