Parents Should Not Push Their Kids To Commit Suicide After They Fail An Exam by guobe(op): 3:35am On Aug 05, 2025
Got chatting with someone after he messaged me at about 3 am that he was tired of life.
At 3 am ,obviously he is worried and has been thinking on what to do.
He said he failed his bar exams and his dad has vowed not to help out.
I asked him what about the mum and he said she is not helping matters too.
He said he needs like 600k for a resit of the exams.
Yes ,parents should feel disappointed when their kids fail an exam but they shouldn't go extreme by pushing them to commit suicide.
They as parents have failed in one aspect of life before.
Always be there for the kids counsel the kids and support them always till they finally achieve their dreams.

If you ask the parent did they pass their own bar exam once? If they do they must be bad teachers for not being able to transfer their knowledge of how to pass the exam to their own child

Exactly, the unnecessary pressure on their kids is uncalled for as the kids did not intentionally fail the exams.
Circumstances occur that make one to fail a course.
There was a course I prepared so hard for in the university but when I got to the hall on the exam day ,everything I read just wiped off.I could not remember anything again.so it happens.

So did he commit suicide? What's the connection of this to suicide?

There are many bars nah

If he fail one bar exam, he better rise up and go to another bar

Even at 3 am he will still find a bar that's still open

Always the blame on someone else. Have you also considered how it feels for the parents to actually cough out 600k for another exam when they were really looking forward to saying "congratulations" - all expenses are done now.

Your friend should hold his suicide-card and humble himself (I am not sure the financial capacity of the family - but it doesn't seem they pluck the money from trees).

Also, the way you ask for money and get it in this scenario matters alot.
1. How did you ask?
2. Were the parents very confident that he would pass the one that he failed, or were they just "try your luck" with him - maybe because he hadn't shown "capacity".
3. "I'm tired of life" - did he pull this emotional blackmail card?
4. How old is he now?
5. How much did he tell the parents he will raise on his own before the deadline?

It's hard for parents too - financially, and in this case, a bit of disappointed family - so asking for a second chance must be done with the trickery of an advocate trying to convince a jury that a guilty man is innocent.

Yes I understand your point too but it is better for the parents to hold the stick and the carrot together instead of stick alone which can drive the kids onto an unwarranted circumstance.

I could remember while doing so poorly in aaaaaaqprimary school instead of my dad to chastise me he guided me and supported me wholeheartedly guess what ? It didn't take up to two academic sessions i rode to the top of the class and has remained there ever since graduating with distinctions, representing my university in African competition as well as being in cowbell mathematics competition courtesy of my Dad's encouragement.

He is my role model, everything i am today ia coutsey of my dad.... Parents should be an encouragement to their kids.

Once someone is tired of life what is the next thing?
In that case 50% of Nigeria would have committed suicide
