Baba im a millenial and im twlling u 9mobile was formerly etisalat (EMTS), Econet is what is Airtel today and thats the most changed/sold network in nigeria.

It won't work. Use mtn card for mtn and 9mobile card for 9mobile

Why will the Government intervene, MTN and 9 mobile (Etisalat) started about the same. The former invested heavily on its infrastructure while the later was just creaming it's profits off

9mobile own by banks and some politicians.

The original 9Mobile was owned by a Black Zimbabwean and called Econet, who was pushed out by Nigerian bankers and then sold to the UAE Etisalat until they got fed up with the Nigerian FX exchange program under Buhari and pulled out, opening the door to Isa Funtua to take over the operator and then rename it as 9mobiles until his death and transfer to his incompetent son Abubakar Funtua.

Abubakar Funtua is the reason why 9mobile has fallen from grace, he spent the company's profit on buying private jets and living like a billionaire instead of improving the mobile operator.

Abubakar Funtua, son of the late business mogul Isa Funtua.

it was not econet that evolved into 9mobile, it was Etisalat.

They got their advertisement right but got management wrong

Etisalat is a foreign telecom company, they divested from Nigeria telecom sector and sold the company to local investors. It was all downhill from there.

that is not true, Etisalat came into Nigeria much later after mtn, glo and Airtel. They operated for a few years and decided to divest from Nigeria by selling the company to local investors.

No wonder 9mobile data tariffs are so expensive. They're obviously dumping the cost of paying for the roaming services on their customers/subcribers

I guess the hey days of telcos gradually developing and building up their own critical infrastructure is officially over now

With the way things are going now, I won't be surprised if GLO also has to start paying MTN roaming fees, which would be a huge embarrassment to the country.

That Glo own will never happen in Years to come sir. They may not be on par with MTN but they stand their ground and they are deeply rooted now even cut across Nigeria...Ghana, Benin, ivory coast N The Gambia.
