Even those that have no where to go or where they are headed are also in a hurry. I don't know why too. Especially on Monday Morning and every other morning aside Sundays. Truly, Eko o ni gba igba ku ba not only on Mondays to every week days. |

Yes, Lagos is wild. The noise, the traffic, the heat, the unpredictable wahala — it’s almost like living in a survival reality show. But that chaos? It's also what fuels its hustle culture. Lagos runs on pressure, but it produces some of the sharpest, most determined, and quickest people you’ll ever meet. Take that same day you described: you faced delay, confusion, dirt, stress — yet you still showed up. That’s the Lagos spirit. You had every reason to quit and turn back, but somehow, you got to that interview. Lagos didn’t beat you, it tested you. And the test? You passed it. Yes, you were late and tattered, but you were there. And the interviewer? They saw that effort too. In Lagos, people recognize that the struggle to show up is part of the story. Now, for all its madness, Lagos is also the land of opportunity. Many careers are built there, simply because it's where the energy, money, and networks gather. Some people thrive in Lagos not because it's easy, but because it forces you to grow harder edges, sharper instincts, and faster reflexes. So maybe Lagos isn’t home for you — and that’s fine. But for others, that same chaotic Lagos is where they found clarity, connection, and career. Different cities, different souls. tgmservice: |

Judolisco:You’re absolutely right — landing in Lagos for the first time can feel like stepping into an entirely different universe compared to the rest of Nigeria. The pace, the pressure, the wahala — it’s on a different level. If you’ve lived in calmer places like Abuja, Port Harcourt, or even Ibadan, you’re probably used to wider roads, more organized layouts, and a certain quietness that Lagos doesn’t have time for. The second you hit Lagos, it’s like the city grabs you by the collar and says, “Wake up! No time for dulling here.” People in Lagos hustle like their lives depend on it — and for many, it actually does. There’s this energy in the air, a kind of organized chaos where everyone seems to understand the rhythm except the newcomer. Danfo buses cutting across lanes like they own the road, conductors shouting destinations like they’re selling their last product, and somehow, everyone is always in a rush — even when they have nowhere to go. And the pressure? Lagos doesn’t wait for anyone. Whether it’s the traffic that turns a 10-minute trip into a 2-hour journey, or the cost of basic living, or even just trying to catch your breath without someone honking behind you — it’s a daily test of patience and survival. People dey suffer, no doubt. But despite all that, Lagosians just dey survive. With all the madness, they still show up, still push forward, and somehow still find time to laugh, dance, and create. It’s wild. So yeah, Lagos no be Nigeria — Lagos na Lagos. And until you experience it, words won’t do it justice. |

sharameta:In Lagos, that kind of thing doesn’t happen. You’re chasing buses like you're auditioning for an action movie. It's like everyone is in survival mode 24/7. Lagos is not just a city—it’s a war zone. |

Lagos shapes you in a way no other city can. The energy, the grit, the constant motion—it becomes part of your DNA. That fast-paced, sharp, never-off-guard mindset? It’s not just survival; it’s a skillset. You learn to think on your feet, read people fast, and adapt without flinching. So even when you move to a calmer place, that Lagos spirit stays with you. It's why, no matter where we go—Tokyo, New York, Delhi, wherever—Lagosians stand out. Because Lagos doesn’t just raise people; it forges them. And for all its chaos, it’s still home. That kind of bond isn’t easy to shake. tanigororo: |

jaxxy:Back in 2022, Emeka moved to Lagos from Enugu, fresh out of university, wide-eyed and hopeful. He had a degree in Computer Science and a dream to build apps that could change the world—or at least solve a few local problems. He thought talent and a solid résumé would get him in the door. But Lagos had other plans. On his third week in the city, Emeka missed an interview at a fast-rising fintech startup in Yaba because he left his shared apartment in Egbeda just 15 minutes late. That 15 minutes meant he got stuck in traffic for 2 hours. By the time he got to the company’s gate, the HR manager had already told the front desk, “If he can’t beat Lagos traffic, he can’t beat our deadlines.” Burnt but not broken, Emeka learned fast. He started waking up at 4:30 a.m., using the extra time to brush up on his skills and send out pitches. He began networking at tech meetups, even if it meant squeezing into danfos and jumping okadas across the Island and Mainland. Within six months, he landed a freelance gig, then a contract role. A year later, he launched his own startup—small, scrappy, but real. Today, when people ask him how he made it, he laughs and says, “In Lagos, if you wait for life to give you chances, you’ll grow old at the bus stop. You have to run—sometimes even before the light turns green.” Moral: In Lagos, the city doesn't wait for you. The pace is brutal but rewarding. Those who learn to move fast, stay sharp, and push consistently are the ones who turn the chaos into opportunity. You snooze, you really do lose. |

bdon123:I totally get that, honestly. There’s something deeply personal about where we come from — Lagos isn’t just a city, it holds your early memories, your roots. And sometimes when you return after being away, it doesn’t feel like home anymore. The noise, the energy, even the heat hits different. That disconnect can be real. But at the same time, maybe it’s not Lagos itself that’s the problem — maybe it’s the version of you that lived there that no longer fits. Lagos hasn’t stopped being Lagos, but you have changed. You’ve evolved, you’ve lived elsewhere, and your spirit might now crave the kind of calm Abuja offers. And that’s okay. Still, Lagos has a magic that’s hard to ignore — it’s chaotic, yes, but it’s also full of life, creativity, and resilience. It may not feel like home anymore, but perhaps there’s a new way to experience it… on your own terms now, not as who you were, but as who you are. |

tgmservice:Why won't you get the job, afterall na GNLD. They don't choice. You will hardly see a good company interview like that. I only visit Lagos for business, anything outside that, no way. Abuja, PH, Enugu, Kaduna are cities with normal humans inhibiting areas. |

Smartcitizen:Yes, life in many Western countries can seem more structured, with more visible systems that support comfort, leisure, and planning. But that doesn’t necessarily mean people there are “enjoying” life more deeply — or that life is without its own burdens. Many people in those countries also feel trapped in routines, pressured by bills, isolated by culture, or weighed down by mental health struggles. Also, Nigerians — and many people across Africa — do find joy, meaning, and resilience even in tough systems. The difference is often not about race or nationality, but access: to opportunity, good governance, education, healthcare, and time. The rush you felt back home isn't just chaos — it’s survival. But that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. With more equity, stability, and leadership that cares, people everywhere can live lives that are not just endured, but truly lived. In short: “They” don’t always enjoy life. And “we” don’t always endure. But yes — the system we’re in shapes a lot of how free we feel. And that’s worth questioning, not just accepting. |

hatchy:I get where you're coming from, but I don’t think it’s fair to downplay a job opportunity just because it’s GNLD or because of how the interview is conducted. Every company has its own process, and sometimes even great opportunities come in unexpected packaging. Dismissing it outright might mean missing something worthwhile. Also, about Lagos — I know it’s chaotic, but it’s still Nigeria’s commercial capital. A lot of doors open there that you won’t even find in Abuja, PH, or Enugu. Lagos isn't for everyone, but it’s wrong to act like no “normal human” lives or thrives there. Millions of hardworking, smart people are building solid lives there every day. We all have our preferences, sure — but closing off entire cities or judging opportunities based on surface-level impressions might limit growth more than protect it. |

tanigororo:You nail it. People are always in a rush in large metro cities ...as mentioned above. All have their own pace...rush speed ...like the flow of a river. If you're in it... you would be forced to get into the flow or people will keep bumping into you. I believe the main cause is time. ...people racing the clock ....have to get somewhere by a certain time. Most people in rush rush cities are aware of the time .... most people in go slow places are not. Metro man ......I have to get to the bank by 11:00 a.m Non Metro man .... I have to get to the bank today. Side Bar. Typical. Starting time at my job varies... my shift..7:30 a.m ....another ...8:00a.m. At 7:15 90% of of the workers is not there....they show up within 10 minutes of starting time. Same with the 8 o'clock workers and in general. What are they doing before?....rushing to work. |

seunjungle1:I totally get the struggle with Lagos traffic — it can really feel like a never-ending battle trying to beat transport and not be late. But calling everyone a “zombie” might be a bit harsh! People are just doing their best to keep up with a tough situation. In fact, Lagos workers are often some of the most hardworking and resilient people you’ll meet, managing crazy commutes every day and still showing up ready to give their best. It’s tough, but that hustle is what keeps the city alive and growing. Maybe instead of seeing it as a zombie march, we can appreciate the effort behind it — it’s a sign of determination, not just exhaustion. |

In Lagos is a land of opportunities If you get to your place of primary assignment, someone else WILL take your place. Secondly people also rush to beat traffic |

All the so-called rushing, yet they will gather to watch anything out of the ordinary. A poster claims people in Lagos rush because everyone else does. He is 100% correct. Homeless people rush too because they want to be seen as part of the crowd. |

Lagos? I remember waking up by 3:30 AM so as to meet the staff business that will commute us to the Island. Men, if you dare miss the bus, OYO is your own. Again, coming back is hell o. 3rd mainland bridge traffic to Maryland No? Haa! You finally get home by 10 or 11:00 Pm. Gbam, you are exhausted like a 2 by 2 plank has been used to panel beat you. Ever since I decided to relocate to Ughelli in Delta State, my life has being stress-free. I don leave Lagos for in abeg. I hate stress. Damn! |
