What happened to the Lagos State Government's promise to look into high rent and fees? Gone with the wind.

You can as well try it and go into the business, then try to recover your money in 30years. Just keep in mind that when you build, you will renovate every year again, if not every month because it's now for commercial use and even the rent can't be enough. I see what many genuine developers go through in our area and it's not a joke. I have seen it all that many co tenants don't send you because we sit together and I hear what most people discuss about while we have very few that are good

Dude, lots of tenants see landlords as part of the establishment. As privileged to own houses, so they need to be shown pepper.

Whereas, most landlords are just regularly citizens who laboured to build houses, inherited or do it as a business. For many, it's their retirement income source.

But in this part of the world, only few care about others. The landlord has to struggle to survive in the same economy. Many don't see that.

200 k for Ijede in Ikorodu IS is even expensive, maybe 60k per annum IS OK for Ijede level

Chai! I used to earn 50k one time, with house rent of 60k for 'face I face you' house, still was struggling to pay due to school programs I was running back then.

The major problem with Nigeria today is the population growth.The population is growing faster than the economy at an unsustainable level.

We have many people chasing fewer houses, more students chasing fewer admission spaces, more patients seeking so few doctors,etc

The economy can't grow fast enough to match the population growth hence the skyrocketing of prices of everything.

Then the mismanaging of the economy especially by the immediate past government.
A huge population is good if it's productive,if it isn't, it's a disaster waiting to happen

The worst is: government is not planning on that, and there's not part of the economy they working on to lessen the pain from the other angles. Naija is on a long thing except we have responsible government

That's GRA na... You should just pay for 5 yrs ahead and tell your landlord you're traveling and won't be coming back soon. If I should divide my rent, my monthly rent is around 359,000 a month here in Abuja.

GRA is a very safe place. And those useless boys don't take their killings to that place. I've never heard though....

And houses like this are called affordable housing, what’s affordable in this?

Short let's rentals also contribute to the hike in rent price as municipal landlords now peg ground rent to their prices.

Appropriate authorities should look into this, it is getting preposterous!

Depends on the side of Ajah, for rugged places like Mobil road, ilaje, etc, annual rent can range from 700k up, depending on the standard, however, in some estates, we could be talking over 3-4m plus, sangotedo axis can range from 1.5 up, Lakowe axis, from 1m up.

She's not based in Nigeria. That'll be a prime area in Abuja.

It's safe and secured. We don't pay security fees in my street as some people cover the costs for the streets covered.

Money they use in building the standard 2 to 3 bedroom flat now, they can't realise the money in 5years. Reason for shortlet now is because most tenants give landlords high blood pressure and be claiming they know their right under the law that didnt help landlord pay back bank loan when its time to pay rent but shortlet will give them your 1year rent in 2months. In my former house, the landlady is blind and we were like 23 tenants. The children will have to take the woman to start knocking people's door to get them to pay rent and they still won't turn up and they buy cars and do whatever they like with their money. If I don't have money, I loan money to pay up my rent before another year start counting.

That’s why she needs a lawyer to handle her property
