Pastor Adeboye’s Bold Request For Billions Sparks Online Buzz by lagostrendboy(op): 9:44am On Aug 10, 2025
A surprising video clip of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has gone viral after he reportedly called on members during a live service to donate substantial sums—asking for ₦1 billion from ten members, and ₦100 million from another hundred. The sensational request has since ignited widespread debate online and in religious circles. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

What Was Said
In the trending video, Pastor Adeboye stated:

“I need at least 10 of my children who can give me at least one billion naira each, and another 100 of my children who can give me 100 million naira each…”

The announcement left congregants—and social media users—stunned, with many questioning whether such lofty requests align with spiritual values or inadvertently exploit religious influence.

Public Backlash and Online Reactions
Social media responses poured in immediately:

@GracedDrummer: “Kaii… Why did you cut the video? This is not what he meant… But God sees everything. May you get your reward.”

@FairmeeSzn: “He should ask his politician friends and associates na…”

@LFC_Nel criticized possible misallocation: “And they have not used the money to feed the needy even within the church… Always building auditoriums or estates.”

@AbigailAidela expressed disillusionment: “This is one reason I have decided to be a Jehovah’s Witnesses… at least I won’t be hearing things like this.”

Faith and Fundraising: A Delicate Balance
This isn’t the first time Adeboye has been associated with financial controversy. Back in 2017, he was recorded requesting donations from wealthy members—those who could afford it—to contribute ₦1 billion. That incident drew sharp criticism from public figures like Daddy Freeze who questioned the ethics of such targeted financial appeal.

While the church’s mega projects—schools, hospitals, and digital infrastructure—are often cited in response, critics argue that spiritual platforms should focus on moral teaching, not financial displays.

Why This Matters Now
In modern Nigeria, where religious leaders hold significant influence, high-profile monetary requests raise questions about transparency and stewardship. As economic pressures rise, calls like these can be perceived as tone-deaf or insensitive.

[quote]For religious leaders, balancing ambitious community goals with spiritual responsibility has never been more crucial. And for congregants, discernment becomes key in navigating faith-based financial asks.

Final Thought
Pastor Adeboye’s bold appeal remains controversial. Is it a visionary appeal to support large-scale ministry goals—or a misstep that challenges the sacred relationship between pastor and congregation?

I am not a fan of this pastor. But in this case, my blame goes to those who come out to donate the money.

God bless apostolic Faith. Regardless of what folks say about the ever sober preaching, that's why I can't leave the church.

No offering collection, no pastor's car, no church building etc.
Re: Pastor Adeboye’s Bold Request For Billions Sparks Online Buzz by SlavaUkraini:
There is nothing wrong with the request as long as the money is meant for the Lord's work

The Lord's work is anything or program that will bring people to the knowledge and faith in Christ Jesus

But why can’t he sell his bogus personal investment in Ifewara and use it for the mega church project. Isn’t the mega church project God’s work or GOs are excluded from taking part?

You won't find fake pastors where there is no car, offering, building, etc

GOs are part of God's work to be funded and supported 😛👅😛, so GOs are excluded

Any other question?

Nigeria is the only place where being an Alfa or pastor is regarded as full time occupation.

There would be a mad scramble for RCCG after adeboyes demise, The RCCG multi billion empire will attract a succession brouhaha never seen in Nigeria .

There's no entity in Nigeria with the resources available to these tier A churches
Re: Pastor Adeboye’s Bold Request For Billions Sparks Online Buzz by papyjaypaul:
The way we throw billions in this country is alarming. Even the Billionaires don't give money out like this, are people trying to compete with these guys? Producers, Tech Bros and Farmers are looking for seed funding but our religious houses that don't produce can do this faster than productive sectorshuh shocked No wonder factories are now warehouses for religious camps cry

First Lady announces billions these days, now her church is announcing billions. The earlier we admit that the country is worshipping mamoney, the better. This is how his Pastor, Mrs Tinubu said it is not her billions but donations. This is ridiculous. One billion is not small money. It is 100k x 1,000,000; 1 million x 1000; 100 million x 10. Nigeria is a poor country yet we are pretending that there is money to go round.

This means the money for public good is in the hands of a few and instead of using the money for social services that everyone will benefit from, we are donating it as handout, go-funding our way out. How fuuuleash can we be as a people?

If they say FRCN should audit account of churches, they will protest. If they say they should be taxed, they will resist but they want to use God's name as an excuse for the money they see. I hope EFCC, FIRS or Inland whatever they call them is watching.

That's why adeboye doesn't want to resign now. His desire is to hand over to his child. But that cannot happen because the person that handed over to him isn't his blood relative. So he doesn't know how to go about it so people won't talk.

Op, have you been to Redemption Camp lately?
If not, please go there next time there is a progamme. GO said the infrastructure is now overstretched and creating spillover hold up in traffic. The water system and sewage system can no longer accommodate the surging crowd.
Pastor Adoboye, hate him or like him has done extremely well. I do not think he is hungry. If your father, brothers or sisters, uncles and aunts are not among the billionaires donating, how is that your concern?

Ha ha Pastor Adejale Adebole is a slapstick comedian to so boldly try and extort his gullible flock of cult lemmings as he is doing, BUT those acolytes are blinded by the promise they keep hearing that the only way for them to sit beside Papa God in their imaginary paradise will be when they take loans from the bank to feed the greed of their cult leader.

Hearing a tax-avoiding miracle pastor demanding such vast sums of cash in full view of the Nigerian Internal Revenue Department amounts to a clarion call that the tax-exempt status of his personality-cult racket is long overdue for review and reevaluation so that this type of brazen money-grubbing theft of people's income can be consigned to the septic tank of history once and for all.

The only giving that is guaranteed to be from one's heart, is anonymous giving. Any other giving is subject to manipulation by the pastor.

Telling people to come out publicly, to raise their offerings etc are all manipulative.

His line of business is lucrative, thanks to gullible Nigerians.

Some of these churches are fake and should be banned across the country.
Some of these churches might be 419 set ups. They should be banned from the campuses too.
That's where they recruit their early adherents

Re: Pastor Adeboye’s Bold Request For Billions Sparks Online Buzz by axglide(m): 1:19pm On Aug 10, 2025
Where is the video? Bunch of liars.

He is talking to his children and they’re not complaining. It’s like my Dad calls us his children and asked for money; what’s the business of outsiders if my father asks me for money.

People don’t know the infrastructure in RCCG; they needs well paved access roads to the new auditorium; they’re generating their own electricity, Baba built and donated almost 4 or 5 kidney free dialysis centers, they have mission demands; NGN10 Billion is even too small, just $6M and people are shouting.

If I have $1Billion USD I will gladly give to RCCG.
