| Should I Stay In Owode Or Move To Abeokuta For A Better Life? by Godsown223012(op): 1:12pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
I'm actually thinking of either staying here in Owode, Ogun State, or relocating to Abeokuta in Ogun State. In Owode, I came here to serve, and after serving for one year, I've been looking for a job. I went to Lagos to source for jobs, but there were none. So, I started barbing, and my friend and I used to barb together. We served there together, and we also taught part-time in schools. Later, my friend traveled out to the UK, and I'm still here in Nigeria hustling and working. It has been very hard for me. But lately, last year, I actually got a gig through some people who introduced me to online survey. I started taking on online survey, and this year, God has been faithful. At least, in a week, I've been making a minimum of around 100k or 120k or 98k sometimes. After seeing my progress this year, I feel like I should relocate to Abeokuta because this place is kind of a rural area with no reliable electricity and poor road networks. However, one major consideration is the cost of living. Here in Owode, the cost of living is relatively affordable, and I can get a room and parlor self-contained apartment for around ₦150,000 maximum. In contrast, I've found that similar apartments in Abeokuta are going for around ₦700,000, which is a significant difference. I'm thinking of renting a house there and starting a new life, but I'm not sure if it's worth breaking the bank. The thing is, my friend who is in the UK called me last week and expressed interest in renting a shop for me here in Owode. He wants to furnish it so I can have a dedicated space for barbing. Now, I'm skeptical about whether I should relocate to Abeokuta or convince him to rent a shop for me there instead. My concern is that if I go to Abeokuta and he refuses to rent a shop for me there, he might think I'm not serious. I'm torn between staying in Owode and letting him rent a shop for me or relocating to Abeokuta and possibly taking only online survey. In Owode, I can still barb, go to school, and take online survey, but in Abeokuta, the only work I'd be doing is taking online surveys. I need some help deciding what to do. |

Salamatup:I'm just scared I don't want to miss this opportunity because when I was serving, my uncle who is in the UK actually offered to take me to the UK. But I told him I was serving and wanted to finish first. He got angry, and after service, I tried reaching out to him, but he hasn't been replying since then - it's been two years now. He's still very angry, and I don't want to miss this one too. |

My advise is stay where you are, 1. You are in close proximity to lagos 2. You are in close proximity to west African countries incase opportunity arises to travel 3. Low cost of food, shelters general expenses for me personally abeokuta is highly overrated Take the #500,000 you would av added to your current rent to purchase a land at owode in your own name then thank me later UK or no UK. |

You guys are so slow in thinking. The reason this person made this post is cos people should ask him about online survey. This is a fraud alert. Gullible people will still fall n get scammed. SMH |

I hear you, this is a big decision, and it’s not just about where you’ll live, but about your whole lifestyle, your finances, and your future plans. From what you’ve shared, here’s how I see it: 1. Stability vs. Opportunity Right now in Owode, you already have three income streams: - Barbing - Teaching part-time in schools - Online surveys (which have started paying you really well) You also have the offer from your UK friend to set you up with a furnished shop — that’s a big stability move. Even if online surveys slow down in the future, you’d still have the shop to fall back on. In Abeokuta, you’d be putting all your eggs in the online survey basket, which means higher risk. 2. Cost of Living Reality Check Owode: ₦150k/year for rent leaves you with more money in your pocket. Abeokuta: ₦700k/year for rent, that’s more than 4× the cost, meaning you’d need to work harder just to stay afloat. Unless Abeokuta is going to dramatically increase your earning potential, the extra cost is hard to justify right now. 3. Electricity & Infrastructure Abeokuta does have better roads and more reliable electricity, which can help with online survey work (fewer disruptions). But in Owode, you’ve already been making it work — maybe a small investment in a solar backup or generator could solve that without uprooting your life. 4. The Friend Factor Your UK friend’s offer is a rare opportunity, a furnished shop is an asset you didn’t even have to save for. If you relocate and then tell him “rent for me in Abeokuta instead,” there’s a chance it might delay or even cancel the plan if he’s not fully on board with that location. If I were in your shoes, I’d stay in Owode for now, let your friend set up the shop, and use the extra income from barbing + teaching + surveys to save aggressively. In 1–2 years, if you still want to move to Abeokuta, you could do so with your own money and more financial cushion no pressure from anyone. Right now, Owode feels like your low-cost launch pad. Abeokuta can wait until you’re ready to move there on your own terms. Godsown223012: |
