legionISproteus:alas someone is saying it. The market has witnessed so many wanna be profit makers, people are just slamming funny and ridiculous prices on cars. Cus why are you selling an 05 corolla for 9.5m? That's how the real estate industry has been irredeemably messed up. |
| Re: The Price Of Old, Used Cars On Nairaland Is Disgusting by buygala(m): 6:23pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
legionISproteus:Blame the run-away depreciation of the naira I remember reading that someone said what 8k naira could buy in 2003 or so, 100k naira can't buy it now That a car was made decades ago doesn't make it any less valuable...Clean 2000s vehicles still cost much even in the abroad.. I recently sold a very clean 2003 Honda accord for 4m on this forum..despite a lot of negativity and "last last, u go chop dis moto" ...buyer never met or even spoke to me on phone. ..Bros just contacted me on Whatsapp, transferred 4m to my opay, and extra 200k that I should please help him upgrade the front bumper to the 2007 model, replace the side mirrors with the ones with signal lights, and paint both front/rear bumpers and side mirrors dull black...I did all that and had the vehicle delivered to him somewhere down East...never heard from him again.. All this boils down to the fact that quality is expensive regardless of its age...Cheap things are cheap for a reason... Pictures of the vehicle after I had fixed it to the new owner's specification ![]()

buygala:It's deception and fraud on a witchcraft level to sell a used 2007 toyota for 6M...... A car purchased for 1.5M in 2017.... Y'all only know how to apply naira devaluation but ignore merchandise depreciation..... |

DaInferno:Nigerian car dealers are very greedy. What do you expect? something of 3 million, they will sell it 6 million or 7. Isn't that the height of greed? |
| Re: The Price Of Old, Used Cars On Nairaland Is Disgusting by Sellfish(m): 7:11pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
advanceDNA:What 1.5m could buy in 2017, 6M can't buy it today Money isn't measured by its denomination numbers but by its market value... 6m naira isn't worth much these days |
| Re: The Price Of Old, Used Cars On Nairaland Is Disgusting by advanceDNA: 7:51pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
Sellfish:The goods has depreciated.....it's unfair and deceptive to only consider devalued naira but not consider that a car bought 8years ago is not worth the price y'all placing on it Lets be specific.....asides used jalopies that u pple are over pricing..... Mention 3 things sold for 1.5m in 2017 that 6Million can't buy anymore.... |
| Re: The Price Of Old, Used Cars On Nairaland Is Disgusting by Sellfish(m): 8:12pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
advanceDNA:1.5m could buy you 4,545 dollars in 2017 6m can't get you that today 1.5m could get you 10,489 liters of petrol at retail price in 2017 6m will barely get you 6,315 liters of same retail petrol today Like I said earlier, may God bless our hustle so that we won't be viewing money with its past glory ![]() Meanwhile this is you selling a Nigerian used Golf 4 for 760k in 2017 when it's going price was circa 400k... Hypocrite much? ![]()

Sellfish:Oga..ur lies too much..ast at 2017.... Dollar exchange at Black market was well almost 600 naira because bank(official rate) was exchanging for around 530....u can't get 4500 dollar for 1.5M ..don't be sesprate Hypocrite?? As how...?? Did I sell golf 4 for 4M?? The price of gold 4 back then was btw700k-800k so what's your point please?? U are just trying to shift attention from the fact that you are selling a heavily depreciated for what it's not worth If the car came into Nigeria say... 2024... after the increased exchange rate ..that's understandable... But it's witch craft selling a car bought for 800k back in 2017 for 4M ..... |
| Re: The Price Of Old, Used Cars On Nairaland Is Disgusting by advanceDNA: 8:35pm On Aug 10, 2025 |

advanceDNA:You have been shown for the hypocrite that you are ...Nigerian used Golf 4 for 780k as far back as 2017 ...and you have the guts to whine about greed ![]() If you are in doubt as to the exchange rate of the dollar to naira at 2017, google is your friend Even as late as 2020, dollar was less than 700 naira ... |
| Re: The Price Of Old, Used Cars On Nairaland Is Disgusting by Sellfish(m): 8:40pm On Aug 10, 2025 |

| Re: The Price Of Old, Used Cars On Nairaland Is Disgusting by advanceDNA: 9:02pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
Sellfish:Lol....2020...when buharí was already on the throne....?? I don't need to check Google....at 2017/2018....official rate was over 500 naira... Oga...u are just being mischievous.....a price tag of 780k was even negotiable ...the car was sold for way less to the person that paid.... it's not the same with selling a heavily depreciated car for 6M claiming devalued naira without accounting for depreciated state of goods |
| Re: The Price Of Old, Used Cars On Nairaland Is Disgusting by Sellfish(m): 9:05pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
advanceDNA:Cry more ![]() As at 2017, dollar to naira was less than 350....waling from now till tomorrow can't change that |

So the pple earning 750k before now earn 3M? Ask HR officer who pay salaries before u come here yarning dust.... U pple just do fake calculations to justify your overpricing....abeg clear road |

You lot are casting blame over a market you know nothing about. Cars are expensive because of the value of the currency. There's no other product you expect to buy at the the same prices it was last year but when it comes to cars, you remember the price 5 years ago and you expect it to be the same. If you want cheap cars, know that it will come with faults that will even cost you more to fix. But if you want quality, know that it won't be cheap. |
