Social media wasn't really a thing when I served, but I still remember the long talk my parents had with me the night before I travelled, and the words of advice they offered.

◾ No waka anyhow.
◾ Avoid trouble, and do not get into any disagreements and fights.
◾ Be careful where you eat and drink.
◾ When going out in mufti, always have something visible on you that identifies you as a Corper.
◾ When travelling, always board vehicles at the parks, and do not stand by the roadside.
◾ If the path to your PPA is lonely, always walk in groups with other corpers.
◾ Don’t poke your nose into local politics or community squabbles.
◾ Keep your head low, do your service, and come home in one piece.

A lady who picked confidence from K1 was stripped unclad by a spiteful air hostess while she was being dragged out like a phone thief.

Same offense, different standard.

If na now, I guess they’ll have added, “Be careful what you post on social media. You never know who’s watching or how far it will spread.”

Now imagine you’re a parent. You’ve laboured and sponsored your daughter through school, paid rent, fed her, sacrificed your comfort for her education. She goes for NYSC, and in the middle of service, she posts an unnecessary, critical and derogatory video about the state she’s serving in, a video that blows up online, attracting attention and trouble.

I don’t know about you, but me, I will be maad furious. Yes, she’s an adult. Yes, she has freedom of expression. But there’s also something called sense.

She be VA remote worker so maybe she feels she doesn’t need the NYSC certificate. But after one year of service, what’s she bringing back home? Social media popularity, followers, and podcast invites? Fame that will fade in a few months. Because when the noise dies down, na family go still bear the strain.

Her online supporters that were egging her on, shouting, "she's brave, she's speaking her truth", where dem dey now? Sowore, Inibehe Effiong and the other activists that were following her around, where dem dey now?

See, this kain thing dey only sweet when it’s not your own person. But when it is, you’ll wish they had just stayed quiet, finished their service without any drama, and came home.

There’s a reason people say when in Rome, behave like the Romans do. NYSC no be activism bootcamp. It's not the time to prove you can save the world. Sometimes, wisdom is knowing which battles to fight, and which ones to walk past.
None of this speaks to why she doesn't have her certificate after serving the punishment meted out to her in accordance with justice and fairness (which is what laws should be about)

We can talk about her deserving the punishment of extension after criticizing the government despite being an NYSC member. But we shouldn't fail to speak to the fact that her being denied the said certificate after serving punishment is grossly irresponsible on the part of NYSC and its officials.

People should not just make this about her flouting NYSC rules, people should be able to speak to how people like the LGI make it difficult to have a society where citizens can carry-on with their lives after serving punishments prescribed by law. Even in the criminal justice system, after an individual serves a jail term, he or she is allowed to continue to live his life as a freeborn

Nigeria has the mentality of "Customer is always right", and that's why you open your business and put your staff at risk with all forms of weyreys available

I watched an IG video of a lady who was a teller at a bank in Canada. A customer came to deposit and was rude. She said her manager told the customer to either listen to her (teller), or take her money elsewhere; They will not attend to rude customers.

The moment a passenger is proving to be difficult right from the boarding pass, let them know that won't be tolerated, or you refund them their money.

If ValueJet and Ibom Air had addressed these mad people's case before they boarded, all these trendings won't happen.

How do you treat refund, that's what naija business people don't want to hear or see
I once worked in a company the owner placed us in the hands of clients to rubbish and insult us because that's what he does
That is why it's easy for customers to assault staff because the staff will be at fault for unknown reasons

Aviation business is a business that comes with a whole lot of legal liability. You can kick a passenger off a flight and next Monday he will serve u a million dollar lawsuit.

He may not actually win eventually, but u would've expended so much on legal cost if the person na troublesome person wey just an drag u from the lowest court to the highest court.

It's not like management of airlines don't wish to give every misbehaving passenger hot hot; but they just don't want to spend a large percentage of their income on settling court awarded damages/legal costs

Lawsuit, when you are actually violent to my staff?

If I pour an air hostess alcohol, that's not enough to get kicked out?

It's because they don't want to refund. That's why. Nigerian businesses would rather tolerate and excuse all sorts of mad behavior, than reverse a transaction.

Okay, I hear u.

How much is refund?

I am telling u that all over the world (not just Nigeria alone), aviation business is a business that is highly susceptible to legal liability. They get slammed with lawsuits every now and then it costs them so much money defending those lawsuits.

Airpeace have been sued and called out several time they didn't lose any case

Whether you win or lose a case, you will bear legal cost of defending Ur case in court. That's the point I'm trying to make ; that's the reason they try to avoid lawsuit as much as they can

Refund that my guy chased Arik for over 3 months to do, after cancelling a flight? The first picture was in July. The Second was in September, and they still didn't refund. I think they refunded in October sef

Which Nigerian business dey easily refund sef?

And you cannot tell me Aviation companies are scared of lawsuits, even after being the victim.

So K1 go pour pilot alcohol, still carry ValueJet go court?

How much is refund? A big thing for Nigerian business

Peace Mass refused to refund a customer #500. He took them to court and won #500k.

A whole company with thousands of buses, refusing to refund 500 naira.

The plaintiff is not the MD of the airline company that will report to the board and have to explain why shareholders will not be receiving dividend.

If is the MD of the Company that will have to explain how come most of the company's revenue is spent on legal cost.

The airline is a business venture that has shareholders who expect returns on their investment, not story about how the management has to pay so much to settle legal cost

Airline are big companies, they usually set aside some funds for unseeable issues like legal cases, compensation etc
How do you think they come about money incase of plane crashing?
All these doesn't affect the shareholders dividend monthly, bi-annual or annual

You are reading everything wrong based on Ur personal conviction which u are unwilling to change.

I never said airlines are scared of lawsuits hence why the don't forcefully evacuate passengers when they are victims.

All I'm saying is the reasonable thing they should do and which they mostly do is exercise caution in handling issues that has to do with passengers registering their displeasure with the service they provided. They take caution so they don't get slammed with lawsuit which may have been avoidable.

I saw videos of that Ibom lady being dragged off the plane yesterday and in one of the videos the lady's top was torn exposing her boobs. Now we don't know the full story of what really happened but such lady can institute an action against the airline for that. Whether she will win or not; it's not for us non lawyers to decide.

When they airlines try to use diplomacy to deal unruly passengers, it is not because they can't use force but they don't know how the use of force may end. A passenger may get paralyzed when being evacuated off a plane and he or she will Win big damages for injuries suffered.

In fact, airlines and people who own aircrafts generally are mandated by law to buy insurance that will cover them against passenger liability.

The answer you seek is called insurance.

Below is how the victims of the India air crash will be compensated by the respective insurers.

No amount of funds set aside can sort plane crash liability
