Did you see any European country on the list? It's cos Europe are mostly homogeneous. But they come to Africa to lump people together, to join people's destiny together all in the name of ease of administration!!!. For God sake, why wld the Europe lump south and North together? Why wld they lump Yoruba and the Igbos together and push some of Yoruba cousins to Togo and Benin republic. Total nonsense. US speaks just one language which is English. I don't think there's any state you'll go in the US and you wouldn't be able to communicate because of language issues. There are rural areas you'll go to in Nigeria that if you're not from that ethnicity you'll need an interpreter in order to communicate. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

lightwind:USA has many foreigners in their land, hence the 430 different languages. Yoruba, hausa, Igbo, Efik, TIV, Ibibio ,etc are all spoken in USA as well as Japanese, French, Spanish, Hindi, etc. The visitors brought their languages with them. 3 Likes 1 Share |

The more languages spoken indigenously in any country, the more backward and remote that country was up until the 19th century. Lies! Probably a few hundreds in the whole world with dialects. If you’re hearing each others language for the first time, and you understand, it’s one language but different dialects. My first time of hearing Itsekiri, I understood every word. It sounded just like Ijebu and clearer than Egba that shares the same state, so how is that a different language? 1 Like |

In my opinion I think this data should focus more on indigenous language rather than languages spoken within the territory. You can't count Igbo and Yoruba in US or UK and still count it in Nigeria since they are not indigenous language to UK and US. tunjijones:Baba our reality is much different from theirs. In Nigeria we have over 250 ethnic groups, by your logic we are suppose to have 250 different countries (with some having no more than 100,000 people), would this make sense. There is strength in number, there is strength in our diversity. Our main problem is corruption and a wide spread lack of integrity. If we fight corruption and improve our values, it would not matter at all that we are 250 different people, it would not matter so much that we are even tribalistic or whatever. Spain is an example of a European country that is not particularly homogeneous with different regional identities but their society work much better than ours. In fact most European countries are now effectively heterogeneous because of the migrants of different races present, this has not stopped them. This too should not stop us 4 Likes |
