Without Electoral Reforms, Igbo Presidency Will Be Impossible – Ohanaeze by OLADD(op): 12:29pm On Aug 11, 2025
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has said that without comprehensive electoral reforms, the much-expected Igbo presidency would be impossible.

Ohanaeze said it is compelled by its unwavering commitment to the well-being and future of Ndigbo to address the prevailing political landscape and its potential ramifications for the people, particularly in the context of the forthcoming 2027 polls.

This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Ohanaeze’s factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and made available to DAILY POST in Abakaliki.

According to the statement, “The prevailing realities, unfortunately, necessitate an honest and unflinching assessment.

Our considered observation reveals that the current vulnerabilities within the electoral system, coupled with the existing political dynamics, present a significant impediment to any opposition candidate challenging the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections, unless comprehensive electoral reforms are implemented.”

Part of the statement read: “It is with deep regret that we must acknowledge the uncomfortable truth: the integrity of the electoral process is demonstrably weakened. The systemic loopholes and potential for manipulation within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot be ignored.

“These weaknesses, if left unaddressed, create an environment ripe for exploitation by those seeking to maintain power, thereby jeopardizing the prospects of a fair and credible election.

“The implications of INEC’s proposed reliance on manual processing and the potential abandonment of the electronically transmitted results, as a substitute for electronic transmission of votes to the INEC portal, further amplify these concerns.

“Such a shift would disproportionately favour those with the means and motive to manipulate the process, ultimately disenfranchising a significant portion of the electorate and discouraging meaningful participation.

“Against this backdrop, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, acting in the best interests of Ndigbo, feels obliged to issue this poignant advisory: any Igbo individual considering a presidential bid in 2027 must, therefore, recognize the inherent limitations of the current environment.

“Engaging in a contest under these conditions, without significant electoral reforms, may prove a costly and ultimately futile endeavor.

“Such an undertaking could not only squander valuable resources but also risk undermining the political fortunes of the entire Southeast geopolitical zone.

“Consequently, Ohanaeze implores prospective Igbo presidential candidates to re-evaluate their aspirations, prioritising the urgent needs of our region, including the pressing challenges of insecurity and economic revitalization.”

Ohanaeze noted that while it acknowledged the constitutional rights of all citizens to pursue their political ambitions, it is equally committed to delivering the unvarnished truth, no matter the personal cost.

The stark reality is this: WITHOUT MEANINGFUL ELECTORAL REFORMS, VICTORY IN THE 2027 ELECTIONS IS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY.

“The potential consequences of supporting an Igbo candidate who cannot defeat the incumbent president are significant. The economic well-being of our people is intimately tied to political stability and fair play.

“The failed presidential bid could expose innocent Igbo traders and businesses to potential vulnerabilities, particularly within significant economic hubs across Nigeria, most notably in Lagos.”

Are you serious? In this country? I strongly doubt. There is a kind of unwritten gang up against the Igbo nation.

It wasn't impossible for Ijaw people, it wasn't impossible for Yoruba people, it wasn't impossible for Hausa people, but it'd be impossible for Igbo people.

Why is this so?

This leaves only one thing to imagine: they want rules that would be particularly advantageous to them in order to win, similar way Gringori and his core supporters are terrified of going into the ring and slugging it out with other contestants for the party's ticket through an open contest. They want others to be disenfranchised in favour of him.

Hear this, no one would hand you guys anything on a silver platter. You'd fight for it like others have been doing. If Nigerians figure you're deserving of the crown, you'd be crowned. Otherwise you'd stay where you are and keep whining about the snags you see on your path until eternity.

And where did all this Presidency get Nigeria? No where

They just made Nigeria poorer, less safe and more divided.

Imagine Oyo State alone getting the allocation of 5states altogether to build Oyo State. Wouldn't the development in Oyo State make a great difference in the whole of Nigeria so much that the indigenes of Oyo State will be so proud of themselves bearing their state of indigene and doing as much as possible to remain at home?

The whole of South East equals Oyo State and with 5 Governors. I wonder why that region is what it is that people are not happy to claim their region except being obsessed with Lagos? Nothing to show! For a small region with so much collective allocation. So wetin happen?

Stick to the topic, IPOB provost, Nairaland. This isn't whether or not the winners have performed well, it's about the electoral process
Besides, the same person you people are trying so hard to make ignorant Nigerians believe has the keys to Eldorado was once a governor, and receipts show he was one of the worst amongst his peers during that time. Some even alleged Theodore Orji did better than him.

You people keep talking about Presidency as if there's a pot of gold in that office, yet it is the rest of you who have been producing Presidents for the last 60 years that have totally messed up the country, made ot world poverty capital, 8th most insecure country on earth and one of the most corrupt

Then congratulate your selves over Presidency that achieved nothing grin grin grin

Not Igbos efulefu, instead Nigeria will never make any meaningful progress or experience any development. The credibility of a country's electoral system determines it leadership, constitutionality and direction of progress.

Basically you want them to change the rules of the game to make up for your inability to learn how to play politics.

The problem with the Ibos is they always deflect. It’s always someone else that is the problem. They never take responsibility.

Nobody since 1959 has won an election to president or prime minister without the backing of other tribes. Nobody!

The uncomfortable reality the Ibos are deflecting and run away from is: why is it the Ibos cannot find partners outside Ibo land willing to back them and support the Ibo presidency? SS (GEJ) found support, SW (abiola, OBJx2, Tinubu) found support 4 times, why always you?

Do you think Lagos would be what it is had it not been capital of Nigeria for 80 years?

Do you think Ibadan would be what it is had it not been capital of the Western Region before independence. The Oyo State you talk about only has land, nobody care about the size of your land, it won't add one Naira to anyone's pocket

Countries like Gambia are just 2 million people. Countries like Singapore is not even the size of the smallest state in Nigeria, but has bigger GDP than Nigeria

Nobody cares about size of your land

You don't know anything the electoral reform is the problem,

They want prisoners to vote i.e. the results will be written at the prisons. Don't be surprised if half of the 2027 votes come from prisons.....they will claim voter apathy but prisoners were enthusiastic because it was their first time and guess who they voted for ...yes APC grin

Oga shame kuku no dey catch you. South East has no excuse for being what it is. So stop blaming Nigeria when you can't even make a difference for a small space with 5 Governors collecting Federal allocation.

They have started again with their victim card-playing mentality; everyone is playing under the same rules, so how come you are crying that it does not allow you to have an Igbo president? Are the laws and rules not the same for all candidates?

Re: Without Electoral Reforms, Igbo Presidency Will Be Impossible – Ohanaeze by omowolewa: 2:21pm On Aug 11, 2025
It is possible only to strategise towards that. The election road map to Nigerian Presidency has been tested

SWOT test has been done on Religion, Region, Violency and Money. Plan it, Use it and get Results, PUR

You guys will never be developed as the South East, that's why you keep claiming capital areas like Lagos and Ibadan. But Onitsha, Aba and Nnewi did not have to be capital of anywhere for Igbos to make them what they are.

Are you sure? If this your submission is true, the next question should be " why the gang up against the Igbos"?

Have the Igbos done something in the past or is there something the Igbos are doing presently that warrant every other tribe to gang up against them?

Your task are simple...

Try build solid bridges across major ethic groups...

Form alliances with Yoruba and Hausa and Fulanis..

Convince them you will be loyal true and true..

And you will get the deserved support.

All this politics of hatred and divisions won't work for you..tell your children this simple truth.
