Do you have the picture of the barge that was in Onitsha port in 2020?

It remains Port-harcourt and Calabar ports. Continuity of these ports should be guaranteed so as to decongest Lagos that is already over-populated.

Dredge the Niger and watch the SE blossom some more. Now lets roll
Why have the 15 senators from the region and their representatives counterparts failed to get this done since 1999 through budget appropriations that are followed up for implementation?

What have they been doing in Abuja for the past 26 years? Fcvking away the people’s mandate to be federal lawmakers huh

Have we not had several principal officers of both chambers of the NASS from the region all these years?

He doesn’t know the cost of life, the price of the bean, of the fish, of the flour, of the rent, of the shoes and of the medicine, all depends on political decisions. The political illiterate is so stupid that he is proud and swells his chest saying that he hates politics.

The slowpoke doesn’t know that, from his political ignorance is born the prostitute, the abandoned child, and the worst thieves of all, the bad politician, corrupted and flunky of the national and multinational companies.”

See you and fake LOVE.

Onitsha port will flourish and those containers will move in bulk now sef. angry

Ogbeni, your Apapa Port is being dredged constantly. You can NEVER know that, because your OGA hasn't educated you in your WhatsApp group. Go and get informed instead of levitating in your blanket myopic thinking. angry

Moreover the habitat of marine life within the SE is constantly replenished because it falls within an estuary belt.

Go and get educated... propaganda can NEVER equate to knowledge.

IGBOs will harness the port to its fullest potential and all your pain is highly appreciated.

Thank you.
Apapa port is the biggest in Nigeria and doesn't need to be dredged continually like the Onitsha port and dredging river Niger continually will affect the NC fishing industry.
The Apapa Port has been dredged multiple times throughout its history to accommodate larger vessels. Dredging efforts began in the late 1890s to allow ships to reach the Lagos harbor. One notable dredging project occurred in 1906, using the dredger "Egerton", to deepen the lagoon mouth. The port's deepening and expansion have continued to ensure its capacity to handle increasing trade volumes.

If not for useless ethnic politics those currently in power loves playing I don't see any reasons why a region like the south east that's well known for importation and business will be denied a functioning port.

Am happy for my Igbo brothers. The only snag is that Onitsha Port needs consistent periodical dredging of the River Niger which will gulp billion of dollars and will also affect the fishing activities of the neighboring region.
Dredging can disrupt fish habitats, reduce fish populations, and affect the overall health of the ecosystem. The process can create turbidity, which affects water quality and can harm fish, and also remove or bury fish spawning grounds and food sources.
A cost of preference has to be done here and certainly,to use Onne Port, which is closer, becomes the more viable option.
Hate and propaganda will only bring you setback and misfortune.

Imagine since 1983 o, they perpetually kept the SE in the coven so that there won't ever be any light in that region.
grin I guess you read the factors that kept them in the coven, such as pirates, militancy and the unwillingness of eboes to patronise the port, so who should we blame for that if not your self inflicted insecurity grin Lagos offers a safe haven because the Yorubas know the importance of peaceful and safe environment for business that’s why no business man or investors will over look Lagos and Yorubaland for an insecure region like SE grin and besides, you can’t compare a river port with a seaport which is lacking in SE because it lack direct access to the Atlantic grin

Is it the same Buhari that is so hated by most South Easterners? wonders shall never, ever cease !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elipsis:
Before APC goons will come and start praising Tinubu, they should read the article very well.

The Port is already functional but unutilized due to the delay in dredging the River Niger. It is only used when the tide is high enough to take in a Barge.

The article clearly states that activities at the port have been seasonal, typically peaking during the rainy season when the River Niger’s water level is high enough to accommodate vessel traffic. In fact, the Port Manager is even begging for the Government to intervene. He literally said "If fully operational, the port could save money, reduce road pressure, decongest Lagos and other ports, and generate up to N100 billion,”

We are in the rainy season, so this is the first vessel coming in this year. It has nothing to do with Tinubu's administration.
U mean the president doesn't play any row??

U people are just ingrate. Nah wa the region never develop

There is a lot of ways to blosom without the port. The port is not the main issue. Afterall there is port in Warri, PH and Calabar. Have any of those cities witnessed extraordinary development on thr basis of the port being there?

Tell that to lagos state.
If there is a port in onitsha, how does that affect your existence?
Are you jealous that igboland is no longer landlocked as you guys postulated?

It is called strategic marginalisation. This is one of the reasons this people would not allow Igbo man to become president.
They intentionally sabotage the economy of the south east.
They want port revenue to start and end in Lagos. That is the selfishness of an entire region, but God pass them.
