Popular TikTok star Peller has taken to social media to express outrage over a ₦36 million income tax bill allegedly issued to him by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The social media personality, who shot to fame just last year, made the revelation during a livestream conversation with Nigerian singer Peruzzi, which was later reposted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

“I Just Came Into the Limelight” – Peller

Peller told viewers:

“Taskforce said I should pay ₦36 million for tax. I don’t have anything. I just came into the limelight last year.”

According to him, the amount is excessive, especially since he claims the government has never supported his work as a TikTok content creator.

Peruzzi Responds, Advises Quick Settlement

During the livestream, Peruzzi questioned why Peller had not been paying taxes and reminded him of his obligations as a Nigerian citizen.

“Why haven’t you paid your taxes? Do you know how much I pay as tax? I won’t mention it here, but it’s more than the bill they gave you,” Peruzzi said, warning Peller that ignoring the demand could lead to imprisonment.

He urged the TikToker to negotiate for more time and settle the bill.

Peller Claims He’s Being Targeted

Peller insisted the government’s move was influenced by his public display of wealth and disclosure of his TikTok earnings. He argued that most of his income comes from international audiences, not Nigeria, and questioned why he was being taxed at such a high rate.

The incident has since sparked debates online over influencer income taxation and the Lagos State Government’s approach to enforcing tax laws on social media personalities.

Someone that did not go to school will never understand the reason for tax. To such a person it is extortion.
They charge him according to his boastful mouth

Taxation without transparency and accountability from the same govt is nothing but pure extortion. Nigerians are being extorted and not being taxed.

May be he will understand value of Education now.

Many of them go claim they earn 100m monthly but when tax officer knock at their door dem go de cry for social media

The reason why a lot of rich Nigerians prefer to live in Nigeria than relocating abroad is because they want to avoid paying Tax.

You never see anything, let the new tax regime starts and see how it will hit you hard.

Peller did not complete his education due to poverty, which in Nigeria is the product of decades-long governance inefficiencies, inequitable wealth distribution, and the absence of affordable, quality education.

Government investment in citizen capacity-building during Peller’s formative years was non-existent.
As with millions of Nigerians facing this systemic disadvantage, Peller struggled for survival until, through self-driven initiatives, he achieved economic success.

And boom! The vulturous Lagos State Government has issued a tax demand in millions.

This is a standard operational pattern:

1. Provide no structural support at the foundational stage.

2. Apply maximum fiscal extraction at the success stage.

This is why, when Human Development Index (HDI) is raised, they quickly deflect to Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) — because HDI measures accountability, and accountability exposes failure.

That is definitely too much for a streamer, call/visit the instructing officers not the enforcers o, and negotiate for more time.

So many people escaping tax, which they don't know jail time awaiting them.
You see many of them online showing off expensive things yet they never pay tax all they know is to insults the government and degrade it.

He can do his public business to be relevant. But don’t go about shouting how much you make. Even javis herself was loud on their income too.

And he didn’t want to involve himself in politics on how people are suffering. I have seen occasions he even downplay people around him. Same politics issue you are running away from as gotten to your turn. Last last e reach everybody

but that till doesn't warrant the much tax that was issued to him. Remember the government never supported him. And most of the cash the boy gets are gifts from fans.

When you flaunt your earnings, expect a very hefty tax bill.......

Same guy that wanted to rubbish Nigeria graduate just because God picked his call, Mr man go and pay your tax and stop shouting, you are even lucky, if I was the person in charge, I will make life more unbearable for you by making sure you are not giving any grace period to pay your tax.

Is he not making more than that? If they come online to brag about how much they making, don't they think about the result?
