internationalman:Honestly..I wanted to tear laugh. I did 10yrs technically plus a good 8yrs lost cos petitioner was ill informed . Tori long OP abeg read this thread from page 1 Pretty16 who started this from another thread which we both were part of her pd date was 2011 she got to NVC in 2017. And she has submitted petition twice because the first petition was denied due to mistakes so she lost a few years. Others 14 years 12 years 20 years yep I remember the lady, she had gotten to interview stage, interviewed o then they said she's married so now moved to F3 so another wait. She took getting information seriously after that cos by her own admission she didn't take it seriously when her dad initially filed for his kids It one of the reasons I'm still on nairaland to let ppl know you need to be informed, you can't bypass it. You as an applicant need to be informed |

Taal17:Yes I just read that those siblings petitions could get up to 20 years wait time.. You see this misinformation, it has done some people strong thing including my petitioner.. My petitioner got her green card in 2009, she waited for another 5 years to file for us due to lack of knowledge that she could actually file for us as a Green card holder. The lawyer told her she could only file for us as a citizen. Hence while she waited to become a citizen. You know what's funny, when she eventually filed for us in 2014, she still went ahead and filed for us under F2B category (Unmarried sons and daughters of a lawful permanent resident) the same category they told her she couldn't file for us under. I don't want to even begin to talk about the delay we had during NVC stage. Upload documents they will wait for 2 to 3 months to review it and then reject it, submit again and wait for 2 to 3 months again. Back and forth like that... I won't ever forget the day that woman called us from the Lagos embassy to say our Visas have been issued.. That day is one of the most valuable days in my life. |

ecomalchemisttt:You will give your testimony one day like every other persons who have gone through the process.. I was even happier that we didn't encounter any difficulties at the airport in US contrary to what I have been hearing about Trump and immigration. In fact they were all playful and goofing around with us and were always willing to help too |

I have an F4 petition running, but my mom will immigrate before the end of the year, her visa is issued already. I want her to file f2b for me immediately she gets her GC. I am aware I will not get married. But can I declare my child? I am close to 40years, I hope age isn't a problem too. |

Taal17:Really, we learn by experience.. Now with your wealth of knowledge about immigration, you could act as an immigration lawyer for an intending immigrant if you wanted to 😂😂 |

lonikit:Modified You can declare your child and the child can even travel with you if your petitioner is filing for you as a Green card holder Or as a US Citizen Having a child does not delay immigration, it's getting married that does. I guess. You can do your research to further confirm my claim. Note - You have to list the name of all the children you have now wherever there's an option to list them during all the application process. If you fail to list them and you want to file for them later in the future, they will hold it against you and might even charge you with misrepresention of information and you might lose your legal status. Exception is if the child was born after the application process. These people don't lose information even if it's 100 years ago you filed it the application, they will pull it up and show it to your face. So you have to be careful and thorough in whatever you do. |

internationalman:Not true. F2B or F4 with a child and no spouse is free to include the child, get the visas and travel. Note, he can get married if he is relying on the F4 only, once he gets married, the F2B application dies. F2B is faster! |

apach4ever:My DQ was May 2022 and I just got my interview date March 4 this year. So if we are to go by my pace your interview should be next year or even sooner because the whole process is surprisingly moving faster now since Trump came in |

Temseun:Check the most recent US visa bulletin Find your category and see what date you are on. If you are already documentary qualified then Google interview scheduling tool, use that to estimate when you will likely be called |

A big change is coming to U.S. green card rules on Aug. 15 (today) — and it could impact many families with children. Here’s what you need to know. Your PD is ready for a visa according to the visa bulletin. It's just that your DQ is quite recent. You may be looking at a year plus before you interview in Nigeria. Temseun: |

| Re: At The NVC Processing Stage Of The U. S Family Based Preference Category. by Taal17: 1:49pm On Aug 17, 2025 |
Desmond28:Dont overthink it. As long as the relationship between you and petitioner is real then you're granted the visa. So yes if you submitted the additional documents and later they said your passport is read for pick up then the visa is there. Remember this is immigrant visa not nonimmigrant visa. For immigrant visa the visa validity is for 6months from the date of medicals. YOU HAVE TO LAND IN THE USA BEFORE THAT 6months expires. Its when you criss the border that you are now permanent resident ftom the date you arrive at US border. |
