fredwill1357:Hmm this is quite interesting. I'd always seen potato as a food rich in fibre content and in a different light entirely. Can you shed more light on tuber crops containing toxins? I don't think I've heard of that before. |
| Re: My Carnivore Diet Journey Day 7 by folake4u: 10:43pm On Aug 09, 2025 |
Nnamdipapa:This sounds really good to know. Yes, you're correct. It is healthier to eat fruits compared to drinking it, I'm very keen on eating fruits and don't miss it in my diet. For dinner sometimes, I could just eat fruits and boiled groundnuts altogether or only fruits and be good. I'm glad your weight loss journey is going well. If I may ask, what was your starting weight and what's your current weight now? |

folake4u:potato is moderate in fiber not high, plus it is high in starch and sugar. Just type toxins in potatoes or tuber crops on google, and it will be displayed. |

Mariangeles:Meat come in different forms here, the actual meat, diced beef and ground beef. I am addicted to ground beef. Mind you, I have eaten most Nigerians dishes all my life from swàllows rice, stews and in a position to compare. This taste better than any food I have eaten in Nigeria. I have diced sweet potatoes under the beef |

Nnamdipapa:Actually, now that I think about it, you may be right, but you're only partly right. Truly sugar can make you crash and burn if sugar is the only diet you're consuming. However, if you take a low glycemic index carbohydrate food, with the right amount of other food classes, such as protein and fat, as well as fibre and other micronutrients, you'll be ok. Trust me. And this is scientifically proven. But don't take my word for it, check it out yourself. |

I was actually able to put some things together through this thread, the OP is right, good fats is where most of our daily calories should be coming from, the human body is not meant to process much carbs daily. This is why people develop insulin and pancreatic problems the more carbs and sugar they consume. I recommend seeds for anyone interested in a vegan keto diet. |

folake4u:Nigerian varieties of potatoes are red flag that should be avoided at all cost. The worst is the one with purple back and white inside. Aside that one we normally fry as chips but Nigerians don't want to steam of boil it. I love eating that potato. |

Nnamdipapa:If you stay for a long time without eating carb( good carb), your body will convert the protein in your system into carb. Your body functions with glucose. Rather, you should source carbs with low glycemic index and lots of fibre. As you continue to subject your body to that, the consequences will start manifesting. Also, bear in mind that as you age, your body need less animal protein cos it is more complex to break down. You can look at the eating culture of okinawa people in Japan. They are among few of those who have lots of elders above hundred years. Lifestyle change is often what people need. Also, western diets and what they made us believe in might not be entirely true. Looking at your plate, you still eat large portion. When one is on one meal a day, you do not add 3 portion in one plate. That is cheating and its psychological especially for us who enjoy large portion per meal. |

descarado:At the bolded, I have been meaning to say it since the beginning of this thread, but I am too lazy to argue. There are sometimes that if I eat a large portion of food in the morning, I don't get hungry again throughout the day. Same as if I don't eat till early in the evening just like the OP. For someone trying to lose weight he's eating a large portion of one time food in a day big enough to make up for the skipped meals. Maybe he doesn't intend to fully turn lepa though 😀 but as long as he has shed a few pounds since he started, he's on the right track. Irony of life; here I am trying to gain weight and somebody is trying to lose theirs. |

descarado:Oh wow. I like boiled potatoes though. So what variant should Nigerians eat, Des? |
| Re: My Carnivore Diet Journey Day 7 by descarado: 10:49pm On Sep 11, 2025 |
folake4u:Im afraid thats the type we have. The less startch and fibrous among them. They use that one to do fried potato in the north. Worst type is seen in the east. Takes ages to cook and so starchy. Even the pit you use to cook it is very hard to wash. You peel it, your hand will change colour. So gummy. Wonder why our farmers don't cultivate these ones. They are called sweet potato but not up to half as sweet as what we have. If you see them, do buy them. They are very good. The same thing with purple and orange yams

| Re: My Carnivore Diet Journey Day 7 by folake4u: 10:51pm On Sep 11, 2025 |
descarado:I guess times have changed and it might not be profitable for the farmers to cultivate that variant. What's the local name of this one? |

internationalman:Jesu! Uou want to gain weight? Please do not try it. Rehect that naija mentality sharp sharp. Let me burst your bubble. Before, smoking and whatever it does to the body was the number 1 cause of avoidable death in this world. Today, weight gain and its related disease is gradually taking over. Most sicknesses caused by I want to gain weight are avoidable. Obesity cause around 13 known types of cancer alone. Not to talk of other major diseases. Just eat balanced diet and cultivate the habit of moving around. You have a car, sometimes, leave it and walk, okay. |
| Re: My Carnivore Diet Journey Day 7 by descarado: 11:03pm On Sep 11, 2025 |
folake4u:I don't know the names. Haven't seen them in Nigeria before. They are also soft in texture when cooked. You know our potatoes dey like yam. I think that's why we do not cultivate them. |

descarado:I'm aware of the health benefits of losing weight and I'm also aware of the dangerous implications of gaining weight. Majority of the people here are obese and whenever I talk with them they always applaud me of my slenderness and advise I keep eating whatever it is I'm eating that makes me look the way I look. That being said, I just wanted to add a little weight for better looking physique.. |
