President Tinubu Departs Abuja Thursday For Japan, Brazil by TimeManager(op): 12:04am On Aug 14, 2025
President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday embark on a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the President’s first stop will be Japan for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.

With the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, TICAD9 will focus on driving Africa’s economic transformation, improving business environments and institutions through private investment and innovation, and promoting a resilient, sustainable African society anchored on human security, peace, and stability.

Beyond the plenary sessions, Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings and engage with the chief executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria.

Initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, TICAD is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition took place in Tunisia in August 2022
.

After the Japan engagement, Tinubu will proceed to Brasília for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

While in Brazil, he will hold bilateral talks with his host, attend a business forum with Brazilian investors, and lead a delegation of key ministers and senior officials to explore new avenues of cooperation, including signing agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government.

Jagaban!. $60billion light rail project connecting all the six geopolitical zones is done and dusted. Such a massive deal wouldn't have been possible if he listened to his detractors to enter the ring descending so low in replying Atiku's tantrums, Elrufai's toxicity or Obi's negativity.
He is the President, his legacy is of paramount importance and as such, wouldn't come low to their level. Every international engagement counts, every Investment matters. In two years, Mr President has attracted $50 billion worth of foreign direct investment into the country. Just a few hours ago, the Dutch PM was on the phone discussing bilateral relations with Mr President. The Nigerian President is the most sought after, with the fact that he's the most powerful President in Africa.
President Tinubu will strengthen economic and bilateral ties with willingly powerful nations in the concept of mutual respect and cordiality. The Nigerian President will never run before anyone or bow to anyone who embarrasses African Presidents and Heads of States in the White House. President Tinubu will uphold the dignity of Africa being the leader of the African continent.
God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, God bless Nigeria.

According to the Punch news report, Tinubu will depart Abuja on 14 August. His first stop will be the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, from 20 to 22 August. The question is: where will Tinubu be for the six days prior to his arrival in Japan?. I suppose France, and why is Bayo hiding the obvious fact?.

This Togolese man doesn't know "jack" about leadership and good governance.

All he knows is to spread poverty and hardship with his stolen mandate.
I can bet that absolutely NOTHING will come out of this Japan/Brazil trip.

Smh!

The $60 billion "done and dusted" imaginary rail project announced in press releases, visible only in PowerPoint slides and propaganda threads. We’ve heard this story before: “legacy projects,” “record-breaking FDI,” “most powerful President in Africa.” Yet, Nigerians still face blackout, food inflation, insecurity, and a naira that has become the worst performing currency in the world.

Funny how every trip turns into a historic investment magnet, but the reality back home keeps spiraling. If propaganda could power railways, we'd have bullet trains already.

And about Tinubu not responding to tantrums, maybe silence is golden when there are no answers. Dignity isn’t shown by dodging accountability; it’s earned by delivering results, not international photo ops

Respectfully, we want receipts, not rehearsed praise Nairaland threads. Until we see real infrastructure, stable power, reduced hunger, working hospitals, good roads and employment opportunities. kindly save the chest-beating for when there's actually something to beat it about.

chisomkachy:
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.

The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.

Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”

While speaking at a stakeholders meeting in the state recently, Adegbite noted that contaminated boreholes in Lekki pose health risk and added that treatment of waste water would eradicate any form of disease that may arise from it.

He said, “On waste water treatment, I will say that everyone digging borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call ‘shit water.’

The press statement is obviously designed to be vague on key issues...

It starts off by stating the president will visit Japan and Brazil with a brief stopover in Dubai, UAE.

It then goes to state that the FIRST STOP will be in Japan from 20-24 August...

So what exactly is the stopover in Dubai for? And how can a president's six day stay in Dubai, another country, be called brief?

And then why first stop in Japan when the president's actual first stop is in Dubai for 6 days? If the Dubai trip is for personal reasons, why not state it and be done with it. Afterall, personal or not, Nigerians will critic it, so why not be open?

Bat keeps thinking that being vague is smart when transparency is needed. The man has been a cunning character all his life.
