SCORES OF INSURGENTS NEUTRALIZED, ASSORTED ARMS AND AMMUNITION RECOVERED IN A FAILED IED AMBUSH AND ATTACK ON TROOPS OF OPHK

In what could be described as a deadly attempted ambush, scores of Boko Haram terrorists, have met their waterloo in Kareto, following an attempted, but failed Improvised Explosive Device (IED) ambush on Operation HADIN KAI troops of 145 Battalion Damasak from Sector 3.

In the failed ambush, the terrorists detonated the IED and followed through with direct fire on troops, who immediately carried out anti ambush drills and outflanked the terrorists leading to the neutralization of scores of the insurgents instantly. Troops after exploiting the ambush site, recovered One PKT automatic anti aircraft machine gun, One AK-47 Rifle, Four AK-47 Rifle magazines, large quantity of 7.62 ammunition and two x 36 Hand Grenades. Other items recovered include; a Motorola battery, power bank, a hand air motorcycle pump, Rifle butt, one motorcycle, 12 blankets and a bunch of wires amongst other sundry items.

In another separate offensive operations by troops of 233 Battalion and CJTF of Sector 2, contact was made at Sassawa village in Yobe State with the terrorists and after a gunfight, two of the terrorists were also neutralized and one Ak 47 Rifle, one AK 47 magazine and 23 rounds of 7.62mm rounds recovered.

The resilient and highly motivated troops of Operation HADIN KAI have continued to maintain their aggressive posture and sustained offensives in order to deny the terrorists freedom of action and achieve the overall mandate of Operation HADIN KAI.

CAS APPLAUDS JOINT EFFORT AS NAF’S 8-MONTH OFFENSIVE DEALS CRUSHING BLOW TO TERRORISTS IN BORNO STATE

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a decisive blow to terrorist elements in the North-East, killing at least 592 fighters and destroying 372 enemy assets in eight months, already surpassing the operational tempo of the entire previous year. Disclosing the figures during a courtesy visit to Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, on 12 August 2025 in Maiduguri, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, credited the success to an upgraded fleet and enhanced precision night-strike capabilities. He noted that 798 combat sorties, totaling over 1,500 flight hours under Operation Hadin Kai, had significantly crippled terrorist mobility and logistics, eliminating 206 technical vehicles and 166 key logistics hubs deep in hostile areas.

From Gonori to Rann, Dikwa to Damboa, Azir to Mallam Fatori, NAF aircraft have conducted coordinated day-and-night operations in challenging terrain, enabled by A-29 Super Tucanos, Mi-171 helicopters, and advanced ISR platforms for continuous target tracking. The CAS announced that the imminent deployment of a new Mi-35 gunship would further strengthen close-air support for ground troops. Governor Zulum commended the NAF for its vital role in degrading terrorist capabilities and safeguarding communities, acknowledging that its efforts had saved lives and facilitated the rebuilding of towns across the state.

Air Marshal Abubakar also praised the Governor for the State’s “Borno Model”, a blend of community-driven, non-kinetic engagement with decisive military action, describing it as a winning formula in counter-insurgency efforts. He reaffirmed that the NAF’s mission goes beyond neutralising threats to also protecting civilians and restoring public trust. The CAS also inspected facilities at the Maiduguri NAF Base, interacted with personnel, and received operational briefings, underscoring the Air Force’s continued commitment to leveraging air power, intelligence, and inter-agency collaboration to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the lives of its citizens.

rugged7:
U S approves $350million arms sales to Nigeria 🇳🇬
The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $346 million arms sale to Nigeria, pending Congressional approval. This deal aims to enhance Nigeria’s military capabilities in combating terrorism and illicit trafficking, particularly in the Gulf of Guinea..

The Key Details of the Arms Package
The proposed sale includes:

1,002 MK-82 general-purpose 500 lb bombs

1,002 MXU-650 Air Foil Groups for Paveway II GBU-12 bombs

515 MXU-1006 Air Foil Groups for Paveway II GBU-58 bombs

1,517 computer control groups for Paveway II bombs

1,002 FMU-152 joint programmable fuzes

5,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II all-up rounds

Non-major defense equipment such as bomb components, impulse cartridges, high-explosive and practice rockets, integration support, test equipment, and logistics services.

Lockheed Martin, RTX Missiles and Defence, and BAE Systems are identified as contractors for the sale.

Strategic Context

This arms sale is part of the U.S. government's broader strategy to bolster the security of key partners in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Pentagon asserts that the sale will not adversely impact U.S. defense readiness. Nigeria has previously purchased military equipment from the U.S., including a $997 million weapons deal in 2022.

The approval follows a period of heightened attacks by Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria, leading to significant civilian casualties and displacement. The U.S. State Department has determined that the sale will advance its foreign policy and national security goals by enhancing the security of a strategic partner in Africa.

Congressional Review

Congress has been notified of the proposed sale and has 30 days to review and potentially object. If no objections are raised, the sale will proceed. This process is standard for Foreign Military Sales.

This development underscores the ongoing U.S. commitment to supporting Nigeria in its efforts to combat terrorism and enhance regional stability.

Interesting package.

Despite recurrent U S betrayals, they keep buying from Trump to butter him up.

Otherwise surely, multiple other countries especially Turkey should be able to pick up this contract.

Definitely those are ground control stations for drone pilots.
Am not sure of the side fire arms but those kind of area are highly/properly protected, there off limit to personnels who does not have business or duties around the area.
Security will be tight for areas with such facilities.

The USA has tactically displaced Russia from the Arms Market using sanctions, now practically everyone has to buy from the US. My only discomfort is that because of their aggressive foreign policy, the US is not a reliable military trade partner. All it takes is one unfavorable security report on the Country, and they will happily deny you the spares and support you need to sustain your Order of Battle.

Luckily these are mainly projectiles and ammunition, I am more worried about the platforms we have bought from them.

Anyway so far so good, lets keep our fingers crossed...

OPERATION HADIN KAI GRADUATES 40 INSTRUCTORS IN COLLABORATION WITH BMATT - As Theatre Commander Emphasises Training for Operational Excellence

The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (JTF NE OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reiterated that training is the cornerstone of military professionalism. He made this assertion during the graduation ceremony of Instructors' Development Course Batch 3/2025 in liaison with the British Military Advisory Training Team(BMATT) Instructors, held at the Theatre Training School in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, on August 15, 2025.

General Abdulsalam stressed that providing personnel with the requisite training equips them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and mindset to excel in their duties and uphold the standards of their profession. He emphasised that Headquarters OPHK places a high premium on continuous in-theatre training within its area of operations, hence the conception of the Instructors' Development Course, aimed at drawing lessons learned from previous operations.

The Theatre Commander further noted that with the complex security challenges faced in the North East region, the contributions of the graduates will directly impact the operational success of JTF (NE) OPHK and the broader stability of the nation. He urged the graduates to utilise the skills acquired in the course to counter emerging threats and ensure operational readiness of those they would train.

General Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Sector and Component Commanders for their steadfast support and to the British Military Advisory Training Team for organising the crucial course. He added that BMATT's dedication to enhancing OPHK's counter-terrorism capabilities has had a profound impact, equipping troops with skills essential for mitigating terrorist threats.

He also appreciated the Theatre Training Officer for his consistent commitment, which he said was pivotal to the success of the course.

In his remarks, the UK Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Brigadier General Tom Harper, highlighted the significance of effective patrols, counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) training, and effective medical drills taught during the training.

Brigadier Harper, who represents the leadership of BMATT, stated that support to OPHK remained a part of the overall BMATT Training template to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and assured of more of such support. He thanked the Theatre Commander and the Theatre Training Officer for providing BMATT the opportunity to conduct the training and appreciated the British training team leader, Captain Charlie Bradbury, and his team for the six weeks of intensive training provided.

Earlier, the Theatre Training Officer, Brigadier General Julius Ogbobe, stated that the Instructors Development Course was a specialised training designed to equip experienced and potential military instructors with the necessary skills to train personnel effectively.

The graduation ceremony culminated with the presentation of certificates and awards to deserving students, as well as a group photograph.

Nigeria Records Fresh Counter-Terrorism Gains: Internationally Wanted Ansaru Commanders Abu Bara & Mallam Mamuda Captured

Today, I am glad to inform you that we have successfully concluded a high-risk, intelligence-led, counter-terrorism operation which led to the capture of the top leadership of Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi-Biladis Sudan, commonly known as ANSARU, Nigeria’s Al-Qaeda affiliate.

The group was first formed in January 2012 with a public declaration in Kano. It emerged as a splinter faction from Boko Haram, positioning itself as a “humane alternative.” However, its stated aim quickly turned to attacking Nigerian security operatives, civilian communities and government infrastructure. The group publicly displayed the setting sun logo of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), signaling its ideological and operational alignment with global jihadist movements.

Over the years, Ansaru entrenched itself in both urban sleeper cells and forest enclaves, across several cities in northern Nigeria and in forest based enclaves particularly around Kainji National Park, straddling Niger and Kwara States as well as Benin Republic.

SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE APPREHENSION

The targeted operation, which was conducted between May and July 2025, led to the capture of 2 top ANSARU leaders who have been responsible for masterminding several terrorist attacks against Nigeria over the past years:
a. The first is Mahmud Muhammad Usman (aka Abu Bara’a/Abbas/Mukhtar), the self-styled Emir of ANSARU. He is the coordinator of various terrorist sleeper cells across Nigeria. He is also the mastermind of several high-profile kidnappings and armed robberies used to finance terrorism over the years.
b. The second is Mahmud al-Nigeri (aka Mallam Mamuda), Abu Bara’s proclaimed Chief of Staff and Deputy. He is the leader of the so-called “Mahmudawa” cell hiding out in and around the Kainji National Park, straddling Niger and Kwara States up to Benin Republic. Mamuda trained in Libya between 2013 and 2015 under foreign jihadist instructors from Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, specializing in weapons handling and IED fabrication.
c.These 2 men have been on Nigeria’s most-wanted list for years. They jointly spearheaded multiple attacks on civilians, security forces, and critical infrastructure. Their operations include the 2022 Kuje prison break, the attack on the Niger uranium facility, the 2013 abduction of French engineer Francis Collomp in Katsina, and the May 1, 2019 kidnapping of Alhaji Musa Umar Uba (Magajin Garin Daura). They were also behind the abduction of the Emir of Wawa and they maintain active links with terrorist groups across the Maghreb, particularly in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.
d.The 2 men, who are wanted internationally, are currently in custody.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE OPERATION

The capture of Abu Bara and Mallam Mamuda, the group’s leader and deputy commander respectively, marks one of the most significant achievements to date in our ongoing effort to rid Nigeria of the threat of terrorism. The successful decapitation of the leadership of this dangerous franchise marks the most decisive blow against ANSARU since its inception. This stride has effectively dismantled its central command while paving the path for the complete annihilation of the group.

This feat undoubtedly exemplifies Nigeria’s advancing counter-terrorism capabilities. The precision operation followed months of deep surveillance, human intelligence, and technical tracking, which demonstrates enhanced sophistication and seamless inter-agency synergy.

Let me use this opportunity to inform the public that, in the course of the operation, our security forces captured and recovered valuable actionable intelligence. These include a cache of materials and digital evidence which are all now undergoing forensic analysis. The findings from the analysis are expected to support our ongoing efforts to exploit this success, bring them to justice, and completely annihilate the residual of ANSARU networks and disrupt their foreign collaborators.

CLOSING NOTES
The capture of Abu Bara and Mahmuda signals the beginning of the end to impunity for terrorist leaders. Nigeria will continue to pursue extremists with precision, resolve, and unwavering determination. The fight is far from over, but the fall of ANSARU leadership represents a decisive step forward.

At this juncture, let me appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for the strategic guidance and support in all ramifications which give us the impetus to continue to record successes. I must also appreciate the doggedness of the Armed Forces and all our intelligence and security agencies who all worked tirelessly and collaboratively to achieve this outcome.

In conclusion, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the media for your patriotism and relentless support to our drive to stamp out terrorism from our dear Nation. Finally, let me reassure the general public that we will not relent in our drive to make Nigeria safe for all citizens. In recognition that national security is a shared responsibility, I urge all law abiding citizens to continue to remain vigilant and volunteer timely information to security agencies for prompt action. Thank you for your patience and rapt attention

How Nigeria Alerted Chadian Authority on Identity of son of founder of Boko Haram and younger brother of ISWAP leader, Habib Yusuf, alias Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi

Chadian authorities have arrested the 18-year-old son of late Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, without initially knowing his true identity until they were alerted by Nigerian intelligence through the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

Zagazola Makama gathered that the suspect, who first identified himself as Mustapha Bana Abubakar, was captured alongside five others including, Hassan Abdurrahman, suspected logistics aide, Abubakar Mohammed, alleged cell recruiter, Abubakar Ali Madou, believed to be in charge of weapons and mobility and Abdurrahman Mohammed Abdallah, a minor, suspected to have participated in operations.

They were apprehended during a counter-terrorism operation in Chad. Security sources later confirmed that he was in fact Muslim Mohammed Yusuf, the younger brother of ISWAP leader, Habib Yusuf, alias Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi.

Wooow bro, you can't just eliminate top terrorist commanders and terrorist leaderships.
You need to extract all the intelligence you can before persecution or death sentencing. And this is not an easy process; you have to crack and break them.

Source : ZagaZola Makama
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who obtained exclusive photos of the arrest, Abdrahman was leading a six-man jihadist cell linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The cell was reportedly attempting to establish a new base of operations in the Lake Chad region

Photos showed a short, slender young man in a blue tracksuit, bearing a striking resemblance to the late Boko Haram leader, standing among older suspects.

Chadian police had earlier announced the arrest of six suspected members of ISWAP but declined to give details about their identities. It was only after Nigeria’s security agencies provided intelligence through the MNJTF that the true identity of the young suspect was revealed.

“This was no ordinary arrest,” a senior intelligence source said. “He was born in Nigeria before the 2009 uprising, groomed into militancy, and had begun to carve out his own cell to prove his worth within ISWAP.”

Mohammed Yusuf, founder of Boko Haram, was captured by the Nigerian military and later executed in police custody in Maiduguri on July 30, 2009. His death triggered a violent insurgency that has since spread across Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.

His older son, Habib Yusuf, later became leader of ISWAP, the faction that broke away from Boko Haram. Abdrahman, the younger son, is believed to have been groomed to continue the family’s militant legacy.

The arrest is being seen as another success story of intelligence sharing under the MNJTF, which brings together Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon to combat insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin.

Without Nigeria’s input, Chadian authorities might not have realised the symbolic value of their arrest.

Analysts say the capture is both a tactical and psychological blow to ISWAP. While the cell itself was small, the involvement of a Yusuf bloodline carried symbolic weight, especially for recruitment and propaganda.

The arrest removes a potential figurehead who could have rallied new fighters. It also shows that the ideology continues to recycle within families, which makes deradicalisation and prevention more urgent.

The suspects remain in Chadian custody, and joint investigations are ongoing. They are expected to face prosecution under regional counter-terrorism frameworks.

NAF, CZECH REPUBLIC DEEPEN DEFENCE COLLABORATION FOR ENHANCED SECURITY AND DEVELOPMENT

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic defence cooperation with the Czech Republic as part of efforts to enhance national security and regional stability. This was disclosed by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, on 19 August 2025, while receiving the Czech Republic’s Junior Deputy Minister of Defence, Radka Konderlová, and her delegation at NAF Headquarters, Abuja. He described the visit as a reflection of the long-standing friendship between both nations and their shared commitment to peace and aerospace advancement. The CAS also highlighted NAF’s transformation into a resilient and agile force, stressing its sustained operations against terrorism and piracy which have reinforced Nigeria’s role in safeguarding regional and global security.

In her remarks, Deputy Minister Konderlová reaffirmed her country’s readiness to broaden cooperation with Nigeria, describing air defence as the backbone of national security and Nigeria as one of the Czech Republic’s biggest partners in Africa. She stressed the importance of technology transfer and sustainable capacity-building, noting that beyond defence, the partnership carries immense potential for human capital development, local industry empowerment, and national growth. According to her, the collaboration would not only strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture but also contribute significantly to economic development and global peace.

Both parties identified key areas of collaboration, including logistics support for the NAF’s L-39ZA fleet, overhaul and acquisition of Mi-series helicopters, training for aircraft technicians, and advancements in aerospace engineering, avionics, and unmanned aerial systems. NAF also expressed interest in cybersecurity, space technology, radar systems, counter-drone solutions, and signal interception technologies with leading Czech firms such as Aero Vodochody, Avast, RETIA, and ERA. Air Marshal Abubakar expressed optimism that the initiatives outlined, anchored on mutual respect and a common commitment to peace, would deliver enduring benefits for both nations and contribute to Africa’s security and prosperity.

Owo Catholic Church Attackers Had Links with Foreign Terrorist Groups, DSS Tells Court

The Department of State Services (DSS) has informed a Federal High Court in Abuja that the five men accused of involvement in the June 5, 2022, attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, have links with foreign terrorist groups. The DSS made this disclosure in a counter-affidavit opposing the defendants' bail application filed by their lawyer, Abdullahi Mohammad.

According to the DSS, the defendants' alleged connections to foreign fighters linked to the Al-Shabab terrorist group pose a high likelihood of them evading trial if granted bail. The DSS also expressed concerns about the defendants' capacity to interfere with prosecution witnesses, given their alleged antecedents and propensity for violence.

The five defendants - Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza (25 years), Al Qasim Idris (20 years), Jamiu Abdulmalik (26 years), Abdulhaleem Idris (25 years), and Momoh Otuho Abubakar (47 years) - were arraigned on August 11 on a nine-count terrorism charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/301/2025, filed by the DSS.

The DSS stated that the offences for which the defendants are standing trial are serious, carrying capital punishment if convicted. The agency noted that the defendants' accomplices are still at large and have been making frantic efforts to monitor their trial, intimidate witnesses, and free the defendants from lawful custody.

The prosecution has demonstrated readiness for a speedy trial of the substantive charge. However, the DSS expressed concerns about the safety of its witnesses, stating that they have expressed fears of attacks by the defendants' cohorts and have stated that they will not attend court sessions except their fears are allayed.

In light of these concerns, the prosecution filed an ex-parte application for witness protection, which was granted by the court. The court ordered that the identity and personal particulars of the prosecution witnesses be protected, and that they be allowed to testify while hooded and veiled from the view of all other individuals except the counsel on both sides.

The case has been adjourned to September 10 for a ruling on the bail application. The prosecution team, led by Dr. Calistus Eze, urged the court to reject the bail application, citing the seriousness of the offences and the likelihood of the defendants evading trial.

The Catholic Diocese of Ondo was represented in court by lawyers Edward Ogar and Vincent Adodo, who held watching brief for the diocese.

The DSS's disclosure highlights the gravity of the situation and the need for the court to carefully consider the bail application. The prosecution's application for witness protection underscores the risks faced by witnesses in high-profile terrorism cases.

With support from Nigerian Air Force platforms, the terrorists suffered heavy casualties during surveillance and precision bombardments.

Some cool & interesting images from the African Chiefs of Defence staff Summit 2025, I think the DICON is partnering with the Turkish government and other defence arms based in Turkey

With intentions to develop military hardware and equipment, as well as possibly weapons locally, Nigeria and Turkey are strengthening their defence industry cooperation. This will lessen Nigeria's dependency on Western nations and boost its own defence sector. The Nigerian military's capabilities will be strengthened by this increased collaboration, which also includes the possibility of knowledge transfer and cooperative equipment manufacturing.
The goal of the collaboration is to produce military hardware and equipment locally that satisfies international standards; Kaduna facilities have been identified as possible production hubs.
As part of the collaboration, technology will be transferred to Nigeria to assist it in creating capacity and develop its own defence sector. This will be a dream come through for me, especially in the area of producing polymer-based firearms from the traditional rusty AKs.
