President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met with the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, at the Aso Villa in Abuja, News360 Nigeria reports.

The closed-door meeting focused on trade issues of national, continental, and global importance.

It comes just two weeks before the expiration of Okonjo-Iweala’s first term on August 31, 2025, and the start of her second term on September 1, 2025.

Okonjo-Iweala, a renowned development economist and global finance expert, made history in 2021 as the first African and first woman to lead the 164-member WTO.

President Tinubu has previously expressed confidence that her continued leadership will enhance the WTO’s role as a vital pillar of inclusive global economic growth and good governance over the next four years.
