Dangote Group Addresses Allegations Over Accident Involving Phyna’s Sister in Auchi

The Dangote Group has issued an official statement following allegations by Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, that one of its trucks was involved in a serious road accident that injured her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, in Auchi, Edo State. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Phyna revealed that the collision left Ruth with one leg amputated, while the second leg remains in critical condition.

Responding to the claims, Dangote Cement PLC confirmed that senior company representatives, alongside their insurance team, visited both the hospital where Ruth is receiving treatment and the accident location. The company said it also worked with local law enforcement to review the incident.

“Following the unfortunate incident in Auchi, Edo State, senior officials from Dangote Cement PLC, together with our insurance partners, met with the victim and her family to assess her needs and provide assistance,” the statement explained.

The company assured that it will cover all necessary medical expenses and offer compensation in line with its welfare policy, emphasizing its commitment to supporting those affected by such incidents.

The case has stirred conversations on social media about truck safety and corporate accountability, with many Nigerians urging stricter regulations for heavy-duty vehicles in populated areas.

Now those who were shouting “boycott Ibom Air,” abeg, can we use the strength to also boycott dangote fuel? I want to see something.

Dangote trucks are like a government on their own. Driven by northerners with low pay, and they don’t value life and hate stepping on brakes.

Over the years countless people have been killed, with several legal and court cases. I am yet to find anyone that won a court case with Dangote because the company usually abandoned the trucks with the police. The truck killed one of my friends alongside others, and they abandoned the truck there. Nobody shows up; even the family was just wasting money with lawyers and court cases. Funny thing, the police couldn’t do anything, as they are also helpless.

Part of their insurance deal is to abandon the trucks and their content. And count it as a loss.

This is not enough

They need to sanitize their logistics department and employ qualified drivers only

Most of the these guys driving their truck are incompetent with the way they drive

Sometimes when I see these guys on highway driving recklessly, I normally find a safe place to park my car and wait for several minutes so that they will leave the road completely before I proceed with my journey

Some of them mostly drive like someone who doesn't value life at all

Truck collision on the road is an unfortunate universal thing, BUT WORSE in this country due having so many unfortunate reckless drivers and BAD ROADS.
NORTH GENERALLY HAS ONE OF THE BEST ROAD NETWORKS

In the South, especially the East, most of the criminally rulling don't take road constructions seriously.

Do the trucks have insurance
That is the question Nigerians need to learn for situations like this

Something bad has happened what is the way forward

If the driver was on drugs or driving recklessly that is a criminal matter
Otherwise we need to learn the culture of paying for insurance and learning how to claim compensation
Whe the insurance companies start paying a lot of compensation on one client they know how to check them?

Their recklessness on auchi-okene road is something else. The whole driver of dangote company are incompetent.

The dangote group due to reducing cost, goes up north to recruit drivers knowing fully well that the guys up there will accept any pay due to hunger and poverty. The dangote group don't recruit competent people Because they wouldn't want to pay much on salaries.

The results are now staring at all of us. Millions of Nigerians plying the highway are at the mercy of these incompetent and reckless drivers. This nonsense should stop pls

Dangote has no single liability.They are covered by insurance. Na the insurance company get issues with the victim.

Slightly related: Insurance laws in Nigeria especially as it concerns logistics and vehicular movement can be tricky. Therefore, do not delay when such an incidence occurs. Use everything legal and every available means to formally notify Dangote and the insurance company, if you know them.

If you don't, get someone to write the MD/Legal Head of the particular Dangote company involved within 48hrs. Write via any available means. Your chances at compensation at always better if you do this.

I am putting this out here cos I am well aware that it's not everyone that can raise alarm and get attention like Phyna. Some may be too broke to even afford legal services during these trying periods. So, anyone that can put up a letter can write. Just notify them. Even if it's in pigin or your native language.

I once live in a compound that housed over 5 different truck drivers with more than 7-8 conductors as tenants.... If you see the way these men smoke marijuana and guzzle down Kai Kai before entering the road enh.... I did always pray for innocent pedestrians and road users...

How can you claim to offer assistance for negligence of your own staffs and errors caused by your company. This is not a matter of in line of any welfare stuff. Let the court decide what she gets as a compensation. You can leave half of the population disabled because of nonchalancy and recklessness
