Alaska was once owned by Russia until russia sold Alaska to amarica in 1867 for just 7.2 million dollars which is approx 130m dollars in present day value.

It was the greatest mistake ever made by Russia.

Present day Alaska is now an oil state generating billions of dollars.

Militarily, Alaska would have been an advantage to Russia in spying America or maybe enhance relationships between both nations

The messenger, you may not like but the message can be right. Choosing to host this in Alaska, a territory gifted by the Russians to the Americans, and a country near Canada is significant. I won't be surprised if Trump throws dirt on Canada again by using Alaska as an example, he's unpredictable.
