Re: Mathematician Over To You? by rtdCivilservant: 2:48pm On Aug 16, 2025
$10. He made just ten dollars. Gaskia Gaskia Gaskia.
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by Jashub:
He just made 10 bucks . Because in the initial purchase, he actually made no profit after selling and rebuying(because he has to add an extra $10 to rebuy the goat ) .But once he resold the goat, he made a profit margin of $10. So the final answer is $10.

Total loss.
He made nothing
he said total profit not total lost,
Notinz concerns U abt d lost, just calculate the profits he made

Jashub:
He just made 10 bucks . Because the profit margin remains the same in both purchases
leave d lost aside, they don't asked u to calculate d lost join, just calculate the profits,

Re: Mathematician Over To You? by galantjoe(m): 4:07am On Aug 17, 2025
Profit = selling price - cost price
1st transaction
70-60=`0

2nd transaction
90-80=10

Total profit 10+`10 = 20

Re: Mathematician Over To You? by Lawrence888(m): 11:40am On Aug 17, 2025
He made $20 in profit wink
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by 99thEnemy(m):
$20 profit

First, he buys the goat for $60 and sells it for $70 making a $10 profit

Then, he buys it back for $80 and sells it again for $90 which is another $10 profit

Adding both profits we get $20.

Don't forget to look at the two buy/sell as transactions of different pairs oh!

THEY ARE INDEPENDENT.

99thEnemy:
I see why you think there is no gain, but that isn't correct.

Profit is calculated per transaction, not based on the very first purchase.
First deal: bought at $60, sold at $70 making $10 profit

Second deal: bought at $80, and sold at $90 to make $10 profit

Each sale brings in $10, so the total profit is $20.

The fact that the second buy was higher than the first is irrelevant, what matters is how much was made at each sale.

To make it clearer:

Imagine you have two shops in different places.

In Shop A, you have $60. You buy a goat for $60 and sell it for $70 making $10 profit. The money stays in Shop A.

Later, in Shop B, you have $80. You see the same goat with a trader and buy it for $80, then resell it for $90 which is another $10 profit.

In all, you’ve done business with the same goat twice and earned $20 profit overall.

0$, no profit.
He made $10 first but required $10 profit and another $10 to buy it back.
He later sold it for $10 profit..

Hence, he made no gain at all

1st deal

Buys goat = $60

Sells goat = $70

Profit = $70 – $60 = $10

2nd deal:

Buys goat again = $80

Sells goat = $90

Profit = $90 – $80 = $10

Total profit from both deals= $10 + $10 = $20

What a stupid business man grin
The business only increased his capital but zero profit. Just as you bought a bag of rice for 8k in Jonathan era and buy same for 100k in tinubu era....... the man only invested more money into the business but he made no profit

Obviously not an Igbo man grin

Unfortunately some business are just like this very man and that's why many businesses crash. They don't know how to separate profit from capital.
