The answer is $20
Thank you very much. Don't mind those people. The man's capital is $60 + $10 totalling $70. In two trades he made $10 each and that equals $20.

It's that simple.
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by Bankowner: 12:50pm On Aug 17, 2025
Individually, he made $10 on each transaction.
But on aggregate, he made nothing.

Re: Mathematician Over To You? by rolams(m): 12:54pm On Aug 17, 2025
He made $20 in trade but at the end, he made nothing.
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by lezan(m): 12:55pm On Aug 17, 2025
$20 cause the initial investment were is money and whatever on it on both occasions becomes interests, forget the grammer of he buys it again. The moment he sold the first time, it was no longer his, the transaction ended that instance. The next time he went to to market , priced changed and he still made profit after selling second time. So total profits made is $20, no more no less
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by Shaketable: 12:55pm On Aug 17, 2025
He made nothing
60-70=10
But he added 10 to the 70 he had n bought at 80 then sold at 90 he just recovered the 10 he went to borrow to buy at 80 so he made nothing
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by jamesgudman: 12:55pm On Aug 17, 2025
First transaction...

Buys at 60$
Sells at 70$

Profit...10$

Nb.. cash at hand is 70$

Second transaction...

Buys at 80$

It means he added another 10$ [from somewhere else]. To get the cost price of 80$

Sells @90$

Profit..10$..

Note money added to get at 80$...coz only 70$ cash at hand after first transaction..

90$=80$ nd 10$...

So it's no Profit no loss after d second transaction

20 dolls

Buy for 60 → cash –60

Sell for 70 → cash –60 + 70 = +10

Buy back for 80 → cash +10 – 80 = –70

Sell for 90 → cash –70 + 90 = +20
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by Princewell2012(m): 12:57pm On Aug 17, 2025

$20 profit

First, he buys the goat for $60 and sells it for $70 making a $10 profit

Then, he buys it back for $80 and sells it again for $90 which is another $10 profit

Adding both profits we get $2

Don't forget to look at the two buy/sell as transactions of different pairs oh!
Hmm but you fail to understand that he is now buying it back higher than the first purchased, so I don't think he is making any gain from it.
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by adexbols(m): 12:58pm On Aug 17, 2025

Shi shi baba make
U get $60 use am buy something and then sell it back make $10 profit making his capital and $10 to $70

Then go back to buy same goat for $80
Baba borrowed $10 add to his capital of $70
Then resell it again for $90.
Meaning e no make anything.
It take careful calculations to arrive here.
Shi shi baba no make. Truly common sense is not common

No one is even commenting how bad the goat would be for the owner to sell it off twice. Also how indecisive the owner is. More like someone who will go back to an abusive ex to try out again.
Re: Mathematician Over To You? by DesChyko: 1:03pm On Aug 17, 2025
Assuming he went to the market with $100, he paid $60 and was left with $40. Then he sold it for $70 and now has $110. Then he bought another of $80 and was left with $30, which he then sold for $90 and now has a total of $120.

He made a profit of $20.
