Yes, the house is open to Atlantic ocean. Nothing can be done to salvage those houses unless government build a sea wave protector / Embankment.

Only competent construction company like Julius Berger can build proper building there. This issue is beyond this bungalow owner.

A man has raised alarm over the deteriorating state of a house built close to the ocean in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

The lower part of the house has been completely washed away, with deep cracks visible on the walls, the fence broken down, and parts of the interior severely damaged. Speaking in Yoruba, the man explained that the house is not far from the Federal Government road.

He pleaded with Nigerians to help share the video in order to attract the attention of the relevant authorities. He also called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to intervene and address the situation.

The coastal highway and the Eko Atlantic sandfilling is the major cause. Most coastal village along the shore and down Niger Delta will go on extinction as time goes.

The government failed to undertake the EIA, environmental impact assessment on these two major projects.

The solution is to build sea waves protector / Embankment. It's a smart move to avoid compensation. Currently, those properties exposed to sea before the highway will go naturally. (Hopefully with little or no loss of lives). There properties are currently shielding the highway until when it will be fully justified to get more loans from world bank.

But common sense should tell anybody that this is not an appropriate place to build, a place so close to the ocean.

Consulting the responsible government agency before building would have averted this loss because no government agent would have given the approval to build such.

Let him bring out the building plan, approval and the C of O of that piece of land.

That headline is very misleading! This is not 'showing off'! This is calling attention to a disaster in the making because it's evident that the owners of those buildings might be rich enough to buy that tempting piece of real estate in the first place, but they are definitely NOT rich enough to build any lasting structure on it.

Even if it's legal to buy and build on it, a plot of land on that stretch will take billions of naira to develop it.

The current 'owners' must have realized that it was a futile investment borne of a lack of common sense or greed, or both.

Why have the relevant government agencies failed to demolish the house from the time they started building it?

Is it because of corruption due to insufficient salary and poor pension relative to political office holders?

Or maybe it’s due to inadequate number of town planning civil servants to monitor implementation of approved construction projects?

Some areas don't deserve having buildings on them. So if someone sells you a plot of land in the middle of the ocean, you would have bought it and built on it and start calling on Nigerians and government when erosion starts?

Why build so close to the ocean? Even if you have to build there, proper planning and reinforcement has to be done first. You can't build a regular house so close to the ocean and not expect erosion.

The government can't do nothing in the case.

This makes sense ... sea encroachment has caught up to him. When did he build the house? .... that will tell us how long it takes for the encroachment to cover a mile. That should also tell us how long it will take to get to the Coastal Highway. What this tells us now is that sea encroachment was never a consideration in the route of the highway. A few years or so from now it will be breaking news .... Coastal Highway washed away by sea . Lack of foresight...lack of proper planning. Let nature take it's course and plan ahead for that.... a beautiful beach in the making
