This is completely wrong. All F1 Visa applicant will be placed on AP- Since the new social media check rule.. I was on a group chat with over 300 F1 applicants PHD, Bachelors, Masters, all on AP. The approval timeline is what is different. They have backlogs, but so far Lagos embassy has been more proactive, with people getting approved in 24 to 48 hours after being placed on AP. Abuja is the opposite. I've been on AP since June and I had my interview in Abuja. Efetobore1980: |

Tashi95:Its not completely wrong. Are you a staff at the U.S embassy? I have seen more than 6 F1 visa applicants with straight forward visa stampings who came out of interview with visa collection slips. I will never buy the idea coming from any group chats because many of them come out being deceived with misconceptions. You and I are not working at the embassy so don't come out and say completely wrong without any official evidences. U. S embassy never write it anywhere that all F1 visa applicants will be placed on compulsory Administrative Processing. Even if all your group members were placed on 221g your numbers is not even up to a pinch of the whole population. Pls don't turn general thinking into a rule. Attached is the origin of Social Media Vetting. President Trump is focusing on the Ivy League Schools (especially Harvard University) before they eventually compulsory it to all US institutions. 👍

Efetobore1980:It's interesting how you try to use your logic to explain everything even when the current reality is far off from what you're saying. It's the truth that everyone is now being placed on AP in Nigeria. The current reality is that you're either refused under 221(g) or denied under 214(b). The only thing is that the length of time it takes for those placed on AP to get approved differs. |

Oluwaseun2025:** Don't quote me half way. I am using my logic because I can reason well. I am also using experiences, as well as reliable sources and finally relied solely on official publication by the USA embassy before I post or reply to any answer on Nairaland . I am not using a generalised thoughts like you. In my last post , I attached where social media vetting originated from which is in specific term , from Harvard University but you did not have anything to write about that. Hello ! I have seen more than 6 visa applicants with straight visa collection slips out of the interview. Was that logic or an empirical evidence? I will be happy if you can give us the evidence of your current reality from the embassy. NB: How did you know or what survey or opinion polls did you do to know that every f1 visa applicants in Nigeria is being placed on AP ? All of you are just generalizing. |

Naijadentist2bx:Wow, this is a lot. Glad your school permits online classes. You're an undergrad so I can forgive that you possibly made mistakes. Honestly you didn't need to return home to renew , you should have just returned to the US when you had 4months left. You still have some time so get your new i20 and get appointment date . For the interview explain your mum is responsible for your finances. That should show in your i20 anyways. Explain online classes you have taken but you need to resume in person to finish your degree. All the best |

The updated date on my AP changed to yesterday but everything is still the same showing refused. I sent them an email using the format they set for emailing after 60 days for update yesterday after which it changed. Has anyone had this experience? PS: I did dropbox mid June |

Quick question — when your visa was stamped as canceled, did it say “canceled with prejudice’ or ‘canceled without prejudice’. This distinction has serious implications. The narrative of two refusals after an approved visa in the same class/category doesn’t look good. Looks like there might be some adverse information against you/your family that you may not be aware of. To answer your questions: 1. I know of people who have gotten F1 after a previous F1 denial but not multiple (>1) denials. And even then it wasn’t like a yours — an approved F1, denied F1, and approved F1. 2. Reapplying depends on you ie when you are ready and think you have the best chance. Getting a third denial in the same category in the space of 18 months or less will look bad even in the eyes of a sympathetic VO. 3. Dates randomly pop up so you can get a date. You can try again as you seem to have things in order now but you might have a lot to overcome. I Suggest that you read through other people’s interview experience in here. Be prepared for the interview and I wish you good luck. Naijadentist2bx: |

Hello everyone, If a particular consular officer have denied one of visa previously, and the person reapplies again and the person happens to see himself before the same consular officer that denied him, can the person decline to be interviewed by the same consular officer and request to be interviewed by another consular officer that hasn't interviewed him previously? NB: I have been denied by the 2 males at Lagos Consulate in August 2023 and June 2025. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Oluwaseun2025: 11:10pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
Otelsmyg:Yes, you only need to mention it to the VO that you've been interviewed by him before and he would tell you to wait for his colleague to attend to you. Under normal circumstances, you're not supposed to be interviewed by the same person having been previously denied. |

You can give advice without being disrespectful. He is right. your response sounded insensitive. He lost his father! The best you could do was offer your advice while condoling. Not make blanket statements/assumptions that his late father used his office for untoward practices without having the facts of the matter. This further response shows an obvious lack of emotional intelligence. Efetobore1980: |

snoopy:But you did not give him any sensitive suggestions? You can be a clapping spectator who knows more than the players. 😎 He did not ask us to console him about the lost of his father , he asked us to fathom what could be wrong and I gave him the bitter truth scenario. |

Otelsmyg:** Let us assume that you have been denied by all the available interview officers on duty on the day of your interview will the U.S. embassy employ another staff for you or reschedule your appointment until a new person is available to interview you ? Unfortunately, the answer is NO ! The rule that says an officer should not interview you twice is not made for you, it is made internally based on the policy of " Equal Opportunity For All in order to give you 2nd judgement fair hearing in the case (perhaps) you have been interviewed by an inexperienced or trainee officer" In this respect you have to make the request in a very polite manner and it works most of the time if you reapply immediately. However, the request can be denied at the discretion of the embassy. 👍 |

I apologize for the prior inconsiderate responses from the group. I have sent you a PM so we can talk and I can advise you. -I am worried that the consular offices are worried about your financial status with your dad's passing. As we know the typical Nigerian family story of riches to rags with the passing of the primary bread winner. I know that is not the case for you. But just wondering if that may play into the factor. -And as you said for your first renewal you went unprepared, as at the time of your 1st interview, your dad's status meant you werent subjected to rigorous questions that a typical Naija US visa applicant is used to, and are well prepared for.. so I can imagine the visa officer feeling like you are not prepared. And one rejection, makes it easier for the 2nd renewal to be rejected, meaning that you would need to be more proactive for the 3rd process. -I am happy to talk with you, via text, email, etc just to get a sense of how I can help, and can ask others I know who were refused their renewals, but ultimately were successful the steps they went through. -Also FYI i have heard its easier to renew via canada and you dont necessarily have to come to the US -Just so you know that all hope is not lost, there's been a rash of folks being denied renewal or being stuck in Nigeria after traveling for visa renewal . This has been going on even before this current administration. Naijadentist2bx: |

Also, I can understand where the other responses are coming from. I interviewed over a decade ago, and I kind of still remember a few questions I was asked and how I responded. I may not be able to give an accurate script but I can give a vague description. Most requests here typically share their transcripts, and share other details of their application eg.... My school cost Bleep, i have a financial deficit of Bleep, bank statements showed Bleep monies etc. I understand that you may not be able to share all these publicly if you are worried about being identifiable. Also pls know that folks on this forum wont typically be sympathetic to your plight given your background as a child of a late Diplomat, and most wont understand that with or without your father, your grades, plus luck, and favor would have been enough to get you into a US college, and a US visa. I do not think your approach is the right one, seeking a private talk, chat, email or whatever form cast aspersion on your intention. This is a public forum and its the best platform to share your opinions, advise or ask him any question. zichien: |

Which consulate is this exactly. Because I had my own interview at the Lagos embassy yesterday morning, August 20th, and my visa was issued this morning August 21st, on my caec portal. Exactly 24hrs after my interview. Infact I was called to come and collect my passport today. kimpoyo13: |
