Good day my fellow Nairalanders.......I guess you guys are doing great? . Well, life has been somehow good and I believe in the process of hustle and the fact that it'll definitely yield good results so long a hustler don't give up....Today being Tuesday will mark it two weeks since I started my new business and I must say though it hasn't been easy but I can confidently say I prefer it to what I was experiencing all the years of being a Keke rider....I mean,in terms of the peace of mind,no more insults from passengers with incurable anger issues and no more emotional trauma at all . I must really say I'm thankful to God for all of that.......But then again, something just happened yesterday, that was Monday.....I came across my pastor's wife........To be honest,it's over a month since I stopped attending church . My reason for stopping isn't far fetched.........There was a time when I was financially down and I needed money to sort out some issues...... Before now,I used to be very consistent in every single activity going on in the church....But what really broke my heart was when I met with my pastor's wife and told her if I could get any help from the church, with a promise to pay back in two weeks time......She didn't say NO to me but promised to help, but I will have to be more focused on the activities going on in the church......So that was how I started attending every midweek activity...I even joined the evangelism team that went out to win souls for Christ .....I even almost joined the church choir . I even partook in the sanitation department of the church, hoping that my request would be granted........Unfortunately,my request was never granted.......The one that even broke my heart the most was whenever I tried to confront my pastor's wife, she always did everything possible to avoid me . That was when I realized I was being used and would never get any help from the church........So I stopped going to church, and seeked for help from somewhere else and fortunately, that was when and where my breakthrough came from.... Now,my pastor's wife saw me yesterday and was asking me why I haven't been to church for the passed one month....I couldn't hold my anger but had to tell her the reason why I stopped...I told her if I can't and couldn't get help from the same church which I had been worshipping in,then what's the essence of going to church......She tried to compel me by preaching more verses from the Bible but it seemed the more she was opening her mouth to do that, the more my anger kept increasing 😡😡. After trying so hard to re-colonize me but all her efforts seemed to be to no avail, she had to depart shamefully ![]() So, house, did I do wrong by wanting help from my father's house? Or did i do wrong by turning her down? ![]() Mynd44 Dominique nlfpmo.d obembet..... |

Sonnobax15:You did nothing wrong bro. Nigerian pastors only take and never give. A far cry from what the Bible teaches. |

otipoju:. Bro,I have been consistent on every church activities.... When it's time for church donations,it's us the members who do that ,but when a member needs help from the same church, they turn him/her down and directs him/her to look up to God for that . No be witchcraft be that? ![]() |

Sonnobax15:Had like experience. I was told point-blank, quoting verbatim; "The Church is not a bank" (they don't remember that in collecting tithe! )BUT: One huge difference between you and me: They collectively prayed for me, and sure enough, help came from somewhere unrelated to the church. BUT I still left the church - that "the church is not a bank" really pain me |

When the good book of God said the needy should be helped out, it meant those who are genuinely not in a position to help themselves naturally and not those who are just entitled and will willingly declare themselves as needy thinking the church is an osusu scheme where they use kingdom greetings. Church too has scriptural needs and is more needy than the members. |

I give you kudos not kundus like MC. I think is better we know that 80% of Nigeria churches are business center. Sonnobax15: |

One thing I will never do again in my life is to set my feet first time into a church and they will call out first timers. Stand up and that's where see finish start. Met a pastor like that sometimes I will even pay my tithe to him but I will be the one reminding him before he will say small thank you. Thank goodness I left anyways. |

Sonnobax15:I remember the advise my friend gave me many years ago as a teenager after I stopped going to church when I saw injustice on full display and absolute non challenge by the leadership toward the whole thing. She said " ignore all of them and focus squarely on worshipping God and go back home...for it is God you came to serve". This worked for me for many many years until I got immersed deeply in the week to week affairs of a parish that I currently attend. Most Pastors and most church leaders are better avoided. Their hearts are crafty, cold and callous and they are highly manipulative in their quest for power, fame and money. If you make yourself available, they will use you and drain you and thrash you like they never knew you if they no longer need you or have found someone else that they can use. Na you go use your head. Go to church worship your God and distance yourself from them as much as you can. |

OKOATA:. Bro...it isn't easy but those MOG think once people start giving them regards, they begin to feel like demi God.... |
| Re: My Encounter With My Pastor's Wife. by agentNija(f): 3:51pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
Incoherent and disjointed gibberish devoid of logic. So the reason for attending church if for the church to be spoon-feeding you? Not to worship God. How much did you give the pastor's wife to keep for you? If every member of the church start asking for help, then how will the church fund all their requests? |
| Re: My Encounter With My Pastor's Wife. by Sonnobax15(op): 3:53pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
otipoju:. I understand and get your point my brother ....But I think I'll not be going to church for a very long time cuz I believe church isn't just a building but one's heart...... |
| Re: My Encounter With My Pastor's Wife. by Rexymania(m): 3:55pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
They will say church is not a charity house, but they always collect tithe and make donations |

agentNija:. Coming from probably a supposed pastor's wife or someone who's benefitting heavily from tithes and offering..... . it's not my church duty to help me when I'm in need but it's mine to help the same church by donating my hard earned money ![]() Your gullibility smells and I can perceive it from afar.... |

agentNija:So what exactly is the main purpose of a church if not to at least be helpful to their members in time of need ![]() Does it have to be donations upon donations only from the congregation every time ![]() Truth is I can still excuse women attending church programmes consistently but a man doing so is just total rubbish. I mean you can read the Bible yourself so why on earth would you sit down and allow someone else read and interpret it to you in the way it pleases or benefits them ![]() |

Sonnobax15:It is not a bad decision. I've had to do that as well twice now. My father did so for so many years and just prayed at the family altar we had at home then. I've learned to steel my mind and just keep interactions on the surface level to avoid see finish |

Sonnobax15:Oga do you think you are the only one that is attending that church that has problem? If every member start to ask for help just like you did, who is going to fund them? |
| Re: My Encounter With My Pastor's Wife. by Sonnobax15(op): 4:43pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
agentNija:. Madam,go and tell that to your pastors who want to be at the receiving end always and do not want to be helpful to his sheep.......At least,I know for sure that isn't what the Bible teaches us ...... |

in Nigeria, every unemployed person becomes a pastor, i wonder what they are adding to society. corruption and immorality is still very high, so what is their usefulness? back to your story, you did no wrong, jesus christ preach about helping the poor well since the church can not help you, why go there...there is actually nothing to gain, at the end you end up giving your money to the church. |
| Re: My Encounter With My Pastor's Wife. by Feldie: 6:47pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
Sonnobax15:you did nothing wrong. You gain nothing by going to church. The only people gaining are pastors and some of the choir people |

I go to church occasionally, but I am a backbencher. I dont belong to any society, neither do I attend any post church service meetings. infact, I have a strong aversion to the term 'man of God', because it makes me feel like I am dealing with a con artist. Back to the topic, I understand why you stopped attending church service, and truthfully, I'd do the same. The woman could have just refused your request outrightly instead of trying to play with your emotions. My sister used to say that if you want to have a feeling of what politics feel like, go to church. It's a pity that the church has been politicised, and it is one of the reasons for the constant decay in our society. |

Some churches will use you and still help their members. During COVID lockdown, the church I was attending distributed generous care packages (food, orisirisi) to their members that had need of it...I was responsible for collating names of my group members, and A LOT of people signed up. The church spent tens of millions. The same church also used me and others very well, but it was something I wanted to do anyway. It's give and take. |
