Flavours of Nigeria Festival 2025 Showcases Nigeria’s Rich Heritage in Canada

Brampton’s Gage Park was transformed into a vibrant hub of sights, sounds, and aromas as the Flavours of Nigeria Festival returned for its second edition, delivering an unforgettable celebration of Nigeria’s culture, heritage, and tourism treasures.

Opening the festival, Convener Mr. Chukwuebuka Anyaduba reaffirmed its mission: “to promote cultural diversity and export Nigeria’s tourism and culture to the world.” He noted that Flavours of Nigeria goes far beyond food. It is an immersive cultural showcase weaving together gastronomy, music, fashion, arts, and crafts into one rich experience.

This year’s theme, “A Cultural Voyage,” spotlighted the historic Benin Culture of Edo State, one of Nigeria’s most iconic legacies. Guests were treated to a lively program featuring the Afrikan Peach Cultural Group, Ugandan Cultural Troupe, Bepraise Sax, Shemilore, and other performers. The arrival of the majestic Ike ka Ike masquerade from Nigeria was a breathtaking highlight, commanding attention with its regal display.

Throughout the park, vendors offered authentic Nigerian dishes that delighted the taste buds, while fashion, art, and craft stalls added visual flair to the celebration. The festival welcomed hundreds of attendees; Nigerians, Caribbeans, Canadians, and other Africans, united in their appreciation for Nigeria’s heritage.

The Nigerian High Commission in Canada was represented by Charge de Affairs Ambassador Abba Zanna-Kawu, alongside an impressive list of dignitaries:
• MP Sonia Sidhu
• MP Amandeep Sohdi
• Mayor Patrick Brown
• Councillor Paul Vincinte
• Councillor Rod Power
• Hon. Minister Charmaine Williams
• Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor
• Hon. Minister Stephen Crawford
• Hon. Minister Nina Tangri
• Nollywood actor Uzee Usman, music artiste Jumabee, and celebrity chef Sanni Sherif.

Closing the event, Co-Convener Amb. Akin Oduntan expressed gratitude to attendees, performers, and partners for making the 2025 edition a success.

Proudly supported by First Nigeria PLC and Afriex, the Flavours of Nigeria Festival continues to advance cultural diplomacy building unity, promoting tourism, and sharing the depth of Nigeria’s heritage with audiences worldwide.

In another man's country? Why will Canadians allow Nigerians to showcase their culture, abi they want to take over Canada from the Canadians? It should not be allowed. Charity they say begins at home, if we as naija people cannot tolerate ourselves, why should we expect other countries to tolerate us?

Your culture is inside your language and beliefs.

Dancing, dressing, etc aren't culture itself but merely an expression of culture.

Any Nigerian can identify what part of the country a person person wearing certain dress in the picture comes from but it doesn't make the wearer of the dress a part of the culture known for that dressing. In the same way you may wear a Japanese kimono but not be a Japanese. So, anybody can wear the dress too! Anybody can wear any dress.

However, it's not anybody that can speak your native language and believe the same way as your culture does. That's unique to your culture alone- you're really like one unit of your culture if you haven't been adulterated. And only few Africans like Sunday Igboho are not adulterated yet.

That's why wherever and whenever imperialist powers conquered new lands, the three things they were all interested in destroying are 1. Language 2. Education 3. Religion

There was never a place where Rome or Greece or Britain or France or Spain, etc conquered but stopped the natives from dancing or dressing certain ways. Instead, you have all of them waring against native language, education, religion. Because those are the things that created whatever culture that exists anywhere in the world.

Britain banned the speech of native Kenya languages in about the 1940's. In South Africa, they enacted the Bantu educational act to make speaking native South African languages a crime punishable by a fine. That's you'll pay to speak your native language!!

The ultimate colonial smooth criminal himself, Ulli Beier, was sent by the CIA right here in Nigeria and he smoothly did the same thing without raising eyes brows. By the time he fled after the CIA operation and his undercover mission was blown open in other countries (even though Nigerians thought he was legitimate till today) he successfully changed writing from native Nigerian languages to English, set up the people you know as your favorite "literary giants" in Nigeria, set the precedent for Yoruba ontology known to the world- if you ever want to understand what Yorubas believe you'll read it from Ulli Beier. Talk about destroying something from within! More details about this in my upcoming book.

What smart people should do is to restore your culture which white people have destroyed. Dancing, dressing is not your culture, rather they're expression of it.

I'll wash off my hands about black people after my upcoming book.
