The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has summoned Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward and the embattled passenger, Comfort Emmanson, for further investigations.

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Michael Achimugu, disclosed this during a question and answer session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders Meeting held Tuesday in Abuja.

Achimugu noted that he spoke with Emmanson earlier in the day, adding that the passenger and the crew member involved had been summoned for further enquiry.

“I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation on the incident. They will be here tomorrow,” he said.

He, however, clarified that the pilot did not call in security personnel upon landing in Lagos, as the issue seemed resolved during the flight.

However, Emmanson, who reportedly visited the restroom after landing, was the last to disembark from the aircraft.

Achimugu assured that NCAA remains committed to uncovering all the facts surrounding the incident.

In his reaction, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, attributed rising incidents of misconduct in the aviation sector to a general decline in discipline among passengers, airport staff and crew.

DAILY POST reports that the NCAA has issued a fresh directive that all mobile phones must be completely switched off during flight take-off and landing.

Recall that an Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, recently stirred controversy in the country’s aviation sector.

A few months ago I was on an Arik flight Abuja-Lagos, and just before takeoff the stewardess told me to switch off my phone. I said it was already on airplane mode, but she insisted very rudely that I should switch it off completely.

I've never encountered that kind of attitude on international flights, even ones that require passengers to stow away their devices.

Cabin crew on domestic flights tend to feel superior and talk down to passengers. They need serious reorientation.

Meanwhile, a lot of Nigerian airfarers are quite uncouth and downright despicable on flights....from coughing without covering their mouths, to obnoxiously loud prayers, and poor toilet etiquette, reclining their seats without consideration of the passenger behind, and a smattering of entitlement and ego because they can afford tickets.

One had thought that this matter had been laid to rest.

Why stir the hornet's nest?

Perhaps, the seeming blackmail by Emmanson's father might have infuriated the authorities and who have now decided to resurrect the matter?

Just presumptions!

Let's await the outcome of the invitation.

A sane country would set up an investigative panel to review what really happened so as to forestall future occurrence by either passengers and cabin crew. Thencident needs to be investigated and the general public made to know what really transpired on that flight. I believe every plane has got CCTV cameras. They should start from there. Also, fellow passengers on the that flight should be called upon to say what they saw and heard during the fracas.

Damage control must be done amicably.

if there is a functioning CCTV in the flight, then inviting all this parties would be unnecessary.
