President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday attended the opening ceremony of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) at the Pacifico Yokohama International Conference Centre in Japan.

The summit, which brings together African leaders, development partners, and international organisations, is focusing on strategies to boost economic growth, trade, and investment across the continent.

Tinubu joined other heads of state and government at the high-level meeting, which is centred on strengthening partnerships between Africa and Japan in critical sectors such as infrastructure, technology, energy, and human capital development.

Western Post reported that the President arrived in Tokyo on Monday after a brief stopover in Dubai. He was received at Haneda Airport by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, Japan’s Ambassador in Charge of TICAD.

A statement from Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, noted that the President will be in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, where he will participate in TICAD9, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa.” The conference aims to chart strategies for Africa’s economic transformation, attract private investment, and foster a resilient, sustainable continent anchored on peace and human security.
