| What Should Be My Plan? by TechToyin(op): 5:54pm On Aug 20, 2025 |
For context, I just finished my NYSC. I’m a Biochemistry graduate (2:1), 24 years old. Hello everyone, I’m currently doing many things at the same time. I have a target for myself, but I don’t have a specific plan. The reason is that I’m not really a fan of making plans because they might change, and I don’t want to feel disappointed. Here’s where I am right now: I’ve applied (and I’m still applying) for international scholarships. I’ve applied for different jobs. I’m freelancing in Mobile and Web Development, and also working as a Research Writer. Even with all this, it still feels like I have no concrete plan. Looking ahead, my goals for the next five years are to: Earn a PhD, Be married, and Become financially stable. So my question is: What should my plan be? |

TechToyin:Shouldn't financial stability come before marriage? I mean, this is the year 2025, and it should be common sense to all at this point that having one's finances in check is a big step towards a happy life in general(marriage included). ![]() Since you don't have any other plans, it is not a bad idea to consider going towards a PhD. ![]() |

Kobojunkie:The big question is how? What if my scholarships don't fall through What if I don't get the jobs They are a lot of what ifs Seniors like you should have a guaranteed manual |

TechToyin:A guaranteed manual, of the kind you expect, only applies to those whose parents built a company where they retain seats for their children to eventually occupy. Even then, there are no guarantees since such companies can go under before the time arrives, or the child may not even make it at all to occupy the seat. ![]() Life is full of what ifs and whatnots, and that only makes it more interesting and exciting for those who are willing to courageously step forward without caring what others think or have done before them. There are no comprehensive cheat sheets out there, and settling for what others have done is never fulfilling. It is up to you to decide for yourself how you will choose to go about these things. ![]() You need a plan in life. Since you don't have one, it makes sense for you to continue your education until such a time as you can come up with one that will help you move even one foot forward. Work hard to obtain the scholarship. Don't sit idly while working towards that, though, as there are many opportunities out there to continue educating yourself while you wait for the formal routes to open up. ![]() |

TechToyin:You having goals but not like making plans and want plans made for you, is kind of funny and contradictory. I think you should learn to like making plans. They help one accomplish one's goals. |

TechToyin! Seriously, I think you should learn to walk before you attempt to fly, and put out your own burnings before fires in Kaduna. |

Great inputs above! How is it that you have such goals and then say "I’m not really a fan of making plans"? You probably think those reasons are valid, try to be open-minded. You should know that things don't sometimes go as planned and that may not be on you. Many have felt disappointed(due to certain steps/actions) at different points in life but that didn't deter some of us from working towards 'the better'. There's a saying that goes "when you fail to plan, you plan to fail". Take a good look at your goals again and think deeply, how do I intend to achieve these one at a time? Most importantly personal dev and finance, sustainability. Even in the what ifs and what nots, you still need to think of next plan of action and how to navigate it to some kind of fulfilment too. That it didn't go 'this' way doesn't mean it cannot go 'that' other way. In all, strive to keep one foot in front of the other. Shalom! |
