Letter Shows Wike Was Invited To PDP NEC Meeting — Despite His Denial by Islie(op): 3:29am On Aug 21, 2025
by Samuel Akpan

On Wednesday, Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), said he was not invited to the national executive committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike spoke during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, and maintained that he did not know about the opposition party’s planned national convention, billed to take place on November 15 and 16.

The PDP NEC had, on July 24, approved Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, as the venue for the national convention to elect a new national working committee (NWC).

The NEC is the highest decision-making organ of the PDP, comprising state governors, serving and former presidents, former vice-presidents, the chairman and secretary of the board of trustees (BoT), principal officers of the national assembly, all state chairpersons, members of the NWC, former governors, and founding members, among others.

When asked during the interview if he would attend or hold a parallel convention, Wike said he was not aware of the scheduled November event and was not invited to the NEC meeting where the decision was taken.

I am not aware that they are going to a convention in Ibadan. As an NEC member, I have not been informed, nor have I been invited to the NEC meeting,” the FCT minister had said.

“If the team members say they are holding NEC, so be it. If no notice of meeting has been served on me as a member of the NEC, I have every right to challenge that, and no one can deny me my rights.”

But an invitation letter seen by TheCable shows that Wike was indeed invited to the NEC meeting.

The letter, dated July 10, 2025, was signed by Samuel Anyanwu, PDP national secretary, and addressed to the minister, inviting him to the 101st NEC meeting of the party.

The letter stated the date, time and venue of the meeting and was received by Wike’s office on July 18, duly acknowledged with a signature and stamp.

Earlier this month, Wike said the internal crisis in the PDP would not be over until the party recognises the outcome of the south-south zonal congress held in Calabar, the capital of Cross River.

The south-south zone of the PDP had, on February 22, re-elected Dan Orbih, an ally of Wike, as its chairman.

In March, the PDP NWC disowned the congress, saying it does not recognise Orbih’s election.

Re: Letter Shows Wike Was Invited To PDP NEC Meeting — Despite His Denial by DeLaRue:
The cable said it has seen a letter addressed to Mr Wike.

Well, that a letter is addressed to an individual is not proof that it was served on that person, or that a genuine attempt was made to serve him and he evaded service.

Mr Wike has a legal background. For him to say on TV that he was not served notice of the meeting, he must have spotted a legal error on the part of the conveners of the meeting.

It would be difficult to find and serve Mr Wike personally. They should have published the notice in national newspapers, assuming the PDP constitution provides for that option.

Seems like another legal battle is loading.

Before you make comments, always take a minute to read the info in the Op. Nigerians generally have a bad reading culture but this one is not part of that. Iunderstand that you're in a hurry to defend a politician because of the hatchet job he's doing for your political gods. But you should be even tempered enough to approach things the right way.

Makinde is also a good presidential material and 2027 is his last opportunity to be president because before the job will come to South West again, at least 2 Northerners and one Igbo man must have done 8 years each as president. And Makinde will be over 80 years then. Maybe that’s why he’s battling to unseat Tinubu.

Cable talk say they saw the letter! Where's the letter so that we can see it from both Wike and The cable's points of view?

You've got fume to quote those folks. More like zombies without a functional understanding. They just attack and defend without even digesting what they're up against.

More like a dog who is trained to defend an household hence barks and attack both friendly and enemy until put on leash by its owner.

I was expecting cable news to show us the letter.

Somebody showed you the letter to “sight”. Which means someone wants the world to know he was invited. By my own own thinking such a person would not mind you taking a photograph of the letter and showing the public. Why is the person not willing to have the picture of the letter published?

I know Wike is boxed into a corner with PDPnseemingly sorting out their problems but why make life easy for him by not showing the letter?

The only reason I would show a journalist a letter without allowing him to publish or photograph the letter in this case is if it is a fake letter!

I am not saying it is but that is how it looks to me.

You guys are are fighting on a ship you purposely caused to start sinking, everything you people and Wike are doing is not to help the sinking ship but to further destroy it while it is sinking, I just hope you people don't get drowned with the ship by forgetting your time to bail out on it like others have done....

Wike is a minister, when you write a minister a letter, even if it was received by his office, it takes some time for the minister to sight it due to high volume of letters in the ministers incoming mails.

I am sure wike has not sighted the letter as at when he appeared on channels TV to sat he has not been invited.

Those who have had dealings with government or work with the government can attestate to my views.

Even the CABLE knows this

Thank you. It's sad that we live in a nation were people have no integrity and speak just because they are paid to. There was a country truly.

Did you read the report at all or you just want to play dumb?

"The letter stated the date, time and venue of the meeting and was received by Wike’s office on July 18, duly acknowledged with a signature and stamp."

Wike received the letter and acknowledged. It is right there in the post

If it takes more than 2 weeks for him to see a letter signed by his office, then he needs to reorganize his office, he has a very poor process going on in that office

That is the approximate English version of what we Yorubas say:

Ti ọrọ bá ti pọju irọ ni ó kún inú rẹ.

The Abuja land grabber is a serial liar and propagandist.

ddippset:
Says a man who hijacked the party and singlehandedly produced the last 4 National Chairmen of the party for his own selfishness.

Says a man who accepted nomination to be running mate to Fulani Atiku.
He knew it was injustice to give Atiku the ticket yet he lobbied to be the VP.
grin grin

He knew the party had to go South for the 2023 election, yet he still put Secondus as National Chaiman just to hijack the party..
Only to push Secondus out because he wanted the ticket 2023.

This man remains the biggest problem of PDP.

He can only deceive and fool his minions, not reasonable people.
