Wike Flags Off Water Supply Project In Karu by CapitalLens(op): 3:03am On Aug 22, 2025

…SAYS IT FULFILS PRESIDENT TINUBU’S PROMISE TO FCT SATELLITE TOWNS

In continuation of the strategic efforts to provide clean and potable water to residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has flagged off Lot 2: Karu water supply project within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the FCT Minister said, the project, which includes the installation of a 194-kilometer network of water pipelines, directly fulfills President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to extend essential infrastructure, particularly, clean drinking water, to FCT satellite towns.

The Minister emphasized the administration’s commitment to this goal, noting that similar projects were already underway in Bwari, with plans to extend to Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji before the end of the President’s first term in office.

He described the project as a fundamental need for the people and a priority for President Tinubu, who has already approved the disbursement of 50 percent of the contract sum to ensure its timely completion.

The Minister said, “This is one of the promises made by Mr. President when he commissioned the Greater Abuja Water Supply Scheme in June. He said he was also going to do this in the satellite towns and we have started with Bwari Area Council and AMAC.

“By the grace of God, by next year we will get to Kuje and Gwagwalada and, before Mr. President completes his first tenure, we would have gotten down to Kwali and Abaji. So, Mr. President would have fulfilled the promises he made in providing potable, clean water to satellite towns”.

Barr. Wike appealed to community leaders and youth to support the contractor, China Geoengineering Construction (CGC), who, he said, has committed to completing the project by June 2026. He highlighted the health benefits of treated water, saying, "You will no longer depend on digging your own borehole, drinking water that is not treated. Now you are going to drink water that is going to give you good health".

The FCT Minister, who stressed the commitment of the current administration to the development of the FCT satellite towns, further noted other key infrastructure initiatives in the region, including the recent rehabilitation of a 17-kilometer access road connecting Karu, Jikwoyi, Orozo, Kurudu, and Karshi and pledged to reconstruct a two-kilometer road within the Karu site area.

“Because we did not commission this road, many of you have forgotten that this 17 km road from Karu to Karshi was not passable. We did it. Now again, we are here to provide water for Karu, Orozo, Kurudu and other neighbouring communities”, the Minister said.

He noted that previous administrations had occupied office for more than a decade without making much impact on the satellite communities and urged the residents to align with those with a track record of performance, citing the achievements of Senator Aduda and the AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu.

He said, “Don’t listen to those who will come with promises, They had all the opportunities and they couldn’t do it. It is late now. We have an opportunity and we have come to do it. Support those who have the capacity to bring something to the people. Don’t support those who go on television to talk with nothing to show”, the Minister stressed.

Earlier in her vote of thanks, the Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud described the Karu water project as the beginning of a new chapter of hope, health and prosperity, stressing that the project is not just about the provision of water but also a symbol of progress. She called for the safeguarding of water infrastructure for the present and future generations.

Dr Mahmoud praised the Renewed Hope Agenda and thanked President Tinubu for his unwavering support for the FCT Administration, while also extending appreciation to the FCT Minister, the Area Council Chairmen and other stakeholders for their dedication and commitment to the development of the FCT.

Providing an overview of the Lot 2 Karu water project, the Executive Secretary, FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, explained that the construction and expansion of water supply in FCT satellite towns is a strategic infrastructure initiative that aligns with the FCT regional Masterplan, which provides for the concurrent development of both the Federal Capital City and its satellite towns.

Engr. Dauda noted that the Karu water project is an extension of the recently commissioned Greater Abuja Water Supply Project with a similar initiative recently embarked upon in Bwari, with provisions for other satellite towns to be addressed in due course.

He said the project, which is slated for completion next year, will establish the essential secondary and tertiary distribution network for the effective supply of water to the large population of Karu town and its environs.

The Executive Secretary also emphasized the broader benefits of the project, stressing that it will create both direct and indirect employment opportunities during the construction phase. He said the project, once completed, will provide safe, potable water to the residents of Karu, Kurudu, Jikwoyi, Orozo, and other surrounding communities under the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Well done Wicked Wike.

You're doing so well in adding value to the government of PBAT.

Thanks so much for everything you put in to lift up the facilities standard of FCT and its satellite towns.

However, I'm begging you to complete APO - KARSHI Road which you promised.

You're the only one who can do it. Bala Mohammed promised in 2012 he failed.

Bello Mohammed promised in 2015 and for 8 years he failed woefully.

Nyeson Wike you promised to deliver the road and I pray you will not disappoint me and FCT residents.

Former governor of Lagos, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his immense support for President Buhari’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy.

In a statement released on Thursday in Lagos, Jagaban said that the Buhari administration made a prudent decision in the removal of the fuel subsidy. The statement read;

“We all want fuel at a cheaper price. under the subsidy, we got the right price but not the fuel. Meanwhile, some were getting rich on the common man’s predicament. They were laughing to the bank while the rest of Nigeria waited in the petrol line. This is not the way to democratic development. It is a recipe for creating a class of economic predators that would feed off the people and in time gain such power and wealth that they would seek to buy and control if not own government as well.

President Buhari has with this decision put an abrupt and just end to this assault against our economy and political system. He has made a courageous and prudent decision. It is time to end the fuel subsidy and to begin to subsidize the true needs of the people.
To Mr. President, I say congratulations for having the courage to remove the subsidy. The President has taken this tough decision in the interest of the present and future generations of Nigerians.

For some time, I have been a proponent of this action. I believed ending of subsidy was the only sure way to put to sleep the myriad demons that had invaded the subsidy process, sucking the blood of Nigeria, swallowing much of our needed money.

Jonathan a southerner betrayed the south west first when he was in government.

Jonathan was heavily supported by the south west when he first seek election but turned around to betray the south west when he won because he was poisoned by the south east to hate the south west. Why should the south west support someone who hated them and tried to politically annihilate them

How we foiled Jonathan’s effort to make Mulika Adeola Speaker, Akande reveals

AS president in 2011, Goodluck Jonathan did all he could to ensure South West grabbed the country’s number four seat, including lobbying then opposition leaders from the zone, to no avail. The North West eventually grabbed the seat, supported by South West leaders in opposition to then ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Former Governor of Osun State and now statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, made this revelation in his autobiography, “My Participations” which is currently dominating political and national dis- course.

Aminu Tambuwal, now Sokoto State governor, won the seat, against the preferred pick of his party, Mrs Mulikat Adeola Akande, from the South-West. Defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, then a fledging opposition, which had Akande and his soulmate, former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, as front- line leaders, openly asked its elected members of the House of Representatives, mostly from the South-West, to work against their region and back Tambuwal from North-West.

The opposition party’s support carried Tambuwal through the contest against Akande, then ruling party’s favourite for the speakership seat.

In his book, Chief Akande revealed that former president then as incumbent, personally reached out to Tinubu, who is now believed to be nursing presidential aspiration in 2023 and himself, but couldn’t convince them.

He wrote, “President Jonathan, immediately after the meeting (with political parties), called Bola Tinubu aside into a lobby to broach the matter of ACN support for a choice of who would become the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“That same day, President Jonathan talked to me on phone about the same matter. He disclosed that PDP had zoned the position to the South-West but that only one Muraina and another Mulika won elections on PDP ticket from the zone into the House of Representatives.
