Does Nigeria as a country owe ex athletes after they have retired? There is another clip of Taribo West complaining how the FG and govt abandoned the family of Peter Rufai https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsV58wylEzQ&t=5s 1. Beyond paying you your entitlements when you are playing I do not see what else the govt should do for ex athletes 2. Are these athletes also holding their clubs they played for to these standards cos they likely played more minutes for club than country 3. Should everyone who represented or work for govt including civil servants also have this expectations of govt Finally, Hope current athletes are taking notes. Osimehn, Boniface, Lookman, think f your future now and dont think/expect Ngerian govt to come to your aid |

raumdeuter:IMO No body owe these Footballers, they re earning in foreign currencies They should be saving and investing for returns, it is very funny after living luxurious lives they are coming back to ask govt for help, taribo played for inter, one of the biggest clubs, they paid him well compare to that era Did he suffer life threatening injuries playing for naija? Osihmeh should be one of the richest guy in nigeria if he come back broke, they need to stone him |

iamoyindamola:He's a comedian jàre. His comedy is based on advising guys to avoid spending on girls ; particularly girls who demand money from guys like dem Saidaboj and co. Some of the things he says are not impractical Sha. But he still makes sense on some others he says. Na Warri guy. |

raumdeuter:I believe the government doesn't owe any athlete apart from match bonus and whatever they promise them when they win a particular trophy like the $100k FG promised the falcons. The truth is the number of athletes that will play for a country in the space of let's say 20 years will be so much. There's no how a government can cater for their individual needs after retirement even if the government wants to. The athletes should learn to be fininacially responsible and disciplined so they can plan for life after retirement. No government is coming to save anybody. Where I once lived, we had an ex international who bought a 3 bed room flat who still lives within his means, has cars at his disposal and had businesses that still fetch him money. He still sponsors local football tournament. Anybody who made it to national level should be able to live such modest life at least. |

GloriousGbola:I don't have an issue with Ur friend cutting her teenage daughter's hair as a way to discipline her, but she also need to be more closer to her daughter. She should have a relationship with her daughter that would allow her educate the daughter on the danger of forming a thirst trap on IG. I think parenting nowadays has gone beyond just Punishing the child like our parents approached parenting back then. If one is not careful, he or she will lose the child forever. You see that guy in the video ; I can bet he hates his father already. The way the father beat him like a bandit will never never make him warm up to the man. Does he even know whether the boy likes the courses he registered the boy for before he failed the exams? Who knows maybe he's one of the people who wants his son to be an engineer at all cost when all that one wants to do is be OAP or DJ? |

BlueRayDick:you sha insert your mass comm advocacy by fire by force ![]() unfortunately not all parents are able to relate with their kids or what their kids are into like you said - a lot of parents still take parenting as a police and thief matter where their kids are always guilty of something |

BlueRayDick:Let me clarify something. I didn't hear why the father was beating the child Is there any reason for a father to beat the child this way? I mean are there some offence that could justify this type of beating? Stealing, Fighting teachers, truancy, joining gangs |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 3:58pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
raumdeuter:In my opinion, no offence justifies on to beat his child in that manner. I don't even see the use of beating a child that is already 14,15 -16 years old. The time minimal pain like spanking can Correct a child has passed. Only criminals are beaten in such manner with intention of leaving bruises all over their body |

BlueRayDick:Won't be surprised to find out that the boy had a shitty kindergarten/primary school education and that's what has trailed him into high school. Best believe in all of that drama the man was acting, not one single thinking was done to bring him to that point and beyond the drama no real thinking will be done on the boys unique situation. The easy thing to do as a parent is to lash out, the hard part of parenting is thinking about the problem and diligently following through with whatever solution you come up with. Raising kids it's not easy, and atimes can be truly frustrating, but there's better ways to go about things without that show of raw violence. |

BlueRayDick:The embolden reminds me of younger days in Naija. During Parish harvest/ bazaar, people make "pledges" and everybody go clap for them. 3 years later, half of the people wen make pledge never redeem their pledges. Na so Father and Harvest committee go dey pursue them to the point of cold visits to their homes. Professional athletes, especially of today, should learn financial management 101, immediately they start earning. They are responsible for their financial outcomes now and in the future. I am sorry but there are more important national issues than ex-players who are broke. What should retired pensioners who are owed several months/ years of their benefit at different levels of government say? |

Belarusian President Lukashenko: The option to take out Zelensky and his cabinet with the Oreshnik IRBM was on the table but Putin refused. Same can't be said of netenyahu |

Roland17:The bold I heard still happen today. Some people make pledges in church and never redeem it. I was told some American churches dey take up those who make pledges and do not pay up. Regarding the 2nd part, If the players while active contribute huge to a retirement fun that will kick in by age 50 when they are done with playing football. That can help. Maybe some money managers can approach NFA with this proposal to withhold a part of their match bonuses and invest which they can get back when they are old |

raumdeuter:Them dey waste their time. A pledge has no legal backing, especially for charity/ donation purposes. I have more sympathy for former footballer who never made it out of Nigeria. Wetin those ones wan say? Na to enroll for Geh Geh University remain na. I will not encourage your last sentence, especially in Nigeria, because it will be embezzled with no accountability. Our country is massively corrupt and you think funds like that will survive? Naaaa |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 5:08pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
raumdeuter: Odiegwu. Why is it always athletes that the country should worship for what they chose to do? A soldier is signing away his life and we don't see them receiving so much financial bonuses and recognition as players, yet they die and we move on One player will play for Nigeria, receive match bonuses, have all his welfare taken care of, and when he dies in his old age, we begin to hear how Nigeria didn't take care of him at all. The same advice wey I get for soldier wey sign him life, is what I have for athletes; If Nigeria is not treating you well, quit and look for somewhere else or something better to do. |

India bans gambling, online sports betting and the likes. Reason: Over $2.3 billion is lost annually to betting. Sooner or later Nigeria may have to adopt this going by the tales of woes of Gamblers we read almost everyday in this country.

Roland17:Wait until lawyers bring out case against you. Some churches you sign up to be a member and they can claim to have some rights (check this case Temple Beth Am vs Tanenbaum - NY 2004) Per your last paragraph, I can be handled by private money managers IBTC, ARM, Vetiva etc. Cos if you are against that then no ex international should be asking govt for anything. Pension wey dem dey pay govt employees na from their salary dem dey deduct am monthly while in service |

izzou:Players are like contractors that get paid for their work, So its like the contractors who built National Stadium and National theatre coming to ask for money in retirement And why do these players not ask their clubs. Will Taribo ask Inter Milan, AC Milan or Auxerre for money at this age because he used t play for them? If he wont then why not and why is he expecting NFA to do that Anyway make the current players take note |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Akinlot: 5:49pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
BlueRayDick:There's something that bothers me about gamblers. How does a sensible person think that a bet company will pay the Nigerian government 52m naira for application and license, set up a website, buy very expensive softwares, pay the likes of betradar for odds, hire staff, pay criminal twitter influencers and pay for adverts just so they can dash you money. In what world does this makes sense to a right thinking person? Unfortunately, this government is looking for money wherever they can get it from. I don't see them taking a cue from India. Certainty not under Tinubu. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Akinlot: 6:20pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
raumdeuter:Then maybe they should extend the thought to the fact that they will chase the next "high", continue gambling, join the next 100 and lose everything back. The point being that, there is no winning those bookies. Even when you get lucky and win, everything goes right back to them. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Nobody: 6:27pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
Akinlot:They sponsor football and sports club teams too so conspiracies that they throw away matches as part of the deals they sign are not far from the truth.. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by semid4lyfe(m): 6:27pm On Aug 22, 2025*. Modified: 6:06am On Aug 23, 2025 |
raumdeuter:I kinda agree but India must have weighed the social cost against the economic benefit and concluded it wasn't worth it. Economic benefit - Job creation, more taxes, income and revenue to government coffers from Bet companies. Social cost - gambling addiction, de-incentivization of work, debt and financial ruin, broken relationships/families, substance abuse, alcoholism, mental health issues, increased crime rates etc |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 6:31pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
raumdeuter:Yes the money is not lost technically, but some people will be left bankrupt when the funds is transfered from the gambler to the bookies. What I don't know is if Nigeria can afford to ban the online bet companies. The fact that we have so many Nigerians living below poverty line makes it difficult for the government to just come out and ban gambling Sha. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 6:33pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
Akinlot:A typical gambler strongly believes he will be luckier than every other person who loses their own bet. The major currency gamblers deal in is luck. And u know Luck defies reason/logic. |
