SatoshiX:You rather buy land than invest in stocks? |
| Re: How To Buy The Best Bank Stocks In Nigeria by Hamachi(f): 5:02pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
I get your point and I respect your experience, but I wouldn’t write off the stock market completely. Yes, 2009 was brutal and a lot of people got burnt, but the truth is every investment class has its risks—land inclusive. Land might feel safer, but it’s not immune. We’ve seen cases of government acquisition, double sales, or community disputes that swallow up people’s money. Meanwhile, some stocks have quietly created generational wealth—those who bought and held companies like GTB (now GTCO), Zenith, or even Dangote Cement at the right time know what I mean. The real issue is not “stocks vs land” but strategy. Diversification doesn’t mean abandoning stocks—it means balancing them with other assets like land, fixed income, or even foreign investments. If you only stick to land, you may miss opportunities for liquidity and compounding growth that stocks can offer. So, while insider trading and volatility exist, with patience, research, and risk management, the stock market still has its place in a solid portfolio. SatoshiX: |

Hamachi:Thanks for the insights. A lot might have changed since I left the turf. |
| Re: How To Buy The Best Bank Stocks In Nigeria by Hamachi(f): 5:21pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
SatoshiX:A lot has changed honestly. Send an email to cscs to get your account statement as I am very such your portfolio is in millions but you are unaware of it. The current market price for FirstBankCo is huge not to mention the interim and final dividend over the years that you have received. Act now! NGX has changed since you left. |

Hamachi:Listen, I bought shares like 30 years ago abroad already. Don't tell me about any useless knowledge that 9ja flips on its head. A place where 1 + 1 can be -633? Is the way 9ja runs corrupt democracy that serious countries run it? My mistake was to believe that things work in 9ja as they do in countries where the people and govt mean well for themselves. I don't need it. I keep my little money invested where it has always worked before the 9ja misadventure. |

| Re: How To Buy The Best Bank Stocks In Nigeria by TallNigerian: 6:31pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
SatoshiX:I totally agree with you Sir. I once created a thread on Nairaland to lament about this. Investing in stock is like playing sport betting or engaging in forex trading. It's best for those who engage in daily trading or who are buying over large stocks worth billions, not for minor investors or long term investors. |
| Re: How To Buy The Best Bank Stocks In Nigeria by Hamachi(f): 6:54pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
Dancebreaker:I understand your frustration, but we can’t dismiss everything about 9ja just like that. Yes, the system is rough, messy, and sometimes feels like 1+1 equals -633, but not everything here is a total waste. Even in developed countries, their systems didn’t get perfect overnight—they went through decades of corruption, failed policies, and trial and error before building what we admire today. The truth is, if everyone who sees the faults simply checks out and says “I’ll only invest abroad,” then the cycle here never breaks. The same corrupt system will continue unchecked because the very people who know better have left their hands off. It’s not about putting all your life savings in Nigeria, but at least recognizing that local opportunities do exist. Small, strategic plays here can still yield returns, especially because the market is underdeveloped and full of gaps waiting for smart minds. Abroad gives you safety, but at home there’s also leverage if you know where to look. |
| Re: How To Buy The Best Bank Stocks In Nigeria by Hamachi(f): 6:56pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
TallNigerian:I get your frustration, but honestly, investing in stocks is not the same as betting or forex. Betting is pure luck, and forex requires constant daily monitoring, but stocks—especially if you’re thinking long-term—work differently. The truth is, the stock market has always rewarded patience more than gambling behavior. You don’t need billions to win; what you need is consistency. Even with small amounts, buying the right companies and holding them for years can multiply wealth. Think of people who bought Dangote Cement, GTB, or even Apple in its early days. They didn’t need to be billionaires to see life-changing returns. The real problem is that many people expect quick money, so when they don’t see results immediately, they compare it to sport betting. Stock investing only looks like gambling if you treat it like gambling. But if you approach it with knowledge, discipline, and a long-term mindset, it’s one of the safest and most proven ways to grow wealth steadily. |

Hamachi:I like your optimism. I was a bigger preacher of "9ja will be great" just 20 years ago. Invested in farming, livestock, stock market, healthcare products, etc. Even the so-called real estate that tenants will rather sue you to court than vacate their flat for the landlord or pay up? In the end, people you trusted turned out to be total fraud. Even blood ties has no value in 9ja these days. So, why should one continue? To lose even more money? Anyway, may be some people have the stamina for it. I don't have such any more. |
| Re: How To Buy The Best Bank Stocks In Nigeria by TallNigerian: 7:49pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
Hamachi:Hmmmm. I understand your POV, and I saw how the equities surged in prices over the last 6 months. But is it sustainable? I think my greatest fear is with the volatility of the market. |
| Re: How To Buy The Best Bank Stocks In Nigeria by Hamachi(f): 7:51pm On Aug 22, 2025 |
TallNigerian:I totally get you. The market’s been hot these past months, but the real question is whether that momentum can last. Volatility is part of the package with equities—you’ll see ups and downs. What usually helps is having a clear reason why you’re investing in the first place, sticking with strong companies, and thinking long term. That way, even when the market shakes, you’re not panicking—you’re just riding the wave. |

Please which broker charge the lowest commissions. Because most brokers charge 1.33%. It's too high considering all other charges that NGX has put in place |

Type the name of the company on Google and ask about their dividend. The information should be there. You can also check naira metrics.com Paulscholari: |

OP - Well done for a brilliant analysis! The Troubles With NIGERIAN Banks: • The Major Problems Over 200- Millions NIGERIANS Are Having With The Banks Are 2- Fold: 1-Inabilty of Banks to Lend Money 💰 to Majority of Nigerians- Especially the SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ORGANISATION AND INDIVIDUALS , I use myself as example - •As a retired bank staff - Not tired,I have my monthly payments going to - STERLING BANK - where Recently,I asked for 300K,with Directives to hold my Monthly pay - as A LIEN-On the Small Money that I proposed to Borrow -Till Today ay, Nothing. 2- So I proceeded to the First Bank- same Ikorodu - where I have a T/ O of over -N7M but was dribbling for over 2- Weeks - by given them 400k- gives a Lien-On of Monthly Income - for next 8 Months - they turned it Down - under Flimsy Excuses - you need to make it. T/ Over To N10M. • About 6- Months ago- I went to Access In same Ikorodu - in Ojubode -where I have a joint account of a School we run- we were turned down by those Officers - saying you can only have 300K and we have Multi- Millions T,/ Over. - the question ❓ is this - is this same way and manners - that NIGERIANS Banks Are Treating Millions of Customers, then • NIGERIANS Are Really Suffering In Silence - because they Can't Do - MULTIPLE BUSINESSES THAT CAN GALVANIZED. NIGERIA INTO A TRILLION ECONOMY - BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN NIGERIA ARE NOT BENEFITTING FROM - ANY BORROWING- WHICH WOULD HAVE LESSEN THE BURDENS OF POVERTY AND LACK - THAT IS EVERYWHERE! • MUST I KNOW A MANAGER OR THE CEO OR ANY BOARD MEMBERS - BEFORE I CAN GROW MY BUSINESSES,? • FOR GODS SAKE- IM AN EMPLOYER OF LABOUR, WITH MANY WORKING FIR ME AND WHY SRE OUR BANKS- JUST REMAINS IN THEIR SHELL - SINCE 1960/1963- YET NIGERIANS -DON'T TRUST THEM AT ALL. • I CALLED ON THE MANAGEMENT OF THE ABOVE BANKS - TO TELL THEM THAT THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON UNDER THEIR NOSE 😔. I CHALLENGED THEM TO COME AND DENIED WHAT IM SAYING. THE CBN - TOO IS NOT HELPING NIGERIANS- THE YOUTHS AND THE MASSES. VERY TERRIBLE INDEED 2.HIGH INTERESTS RATES OF 27% and Above - which the CBN DO NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG BUT YET SOMETHING IS WRONG - FIR EXAMPLE: - How Do your Organisations/ Individuals borrow High at e.g 27 % from CBN,- For the Banks add there to make Profits and business people are ere expecting Banks to Lend about 30 or 35 %,but how is this same Interest Rate - SO LOW IN UK,USA AND EUROPE,WHERE WE HAVE EVEN ZERO COST ON SOME PROJECT! SO WHY IS IT DO HIGH WITH NIGERIAN BANKS- AND WHY IS CBN - NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT- WHILE MILLIONS OF NIGERIANS CAN'T DO BUSINESS WITH OUR BANKS 🏦? Is this How To grow 🪴 the Economy. In Nigeria? |

Bluntemperor:I'm sorry about your koan experience with traditional banks. Please go to a Fintech and apply for the loan. It's funny that you who was once in the banking system now experience the pain of those outside as bankers don't understand it till they leave the system. Your concern should be why CBN's MPC has held the rate at 27.5% for over 6 months even after th3 government claims the economy has stabilized. |
