The same people who condemned President Tinubu’s $100k gift to the victorious Super Falcons and D’Tigress are the same people blaming Nigeria on this thread.
Don't take them serious .. imagine blaming Tinubu for this..
The current Opposition in Nigeria is the worst I've ever seen so far . Lies and lamentations is their order of the day ..Give them small chance they're going there to ruin the little reputation at stake..

But these guys made some money na, why are some of them looking this way? Make Una forget all this talk of " I played/represented Nigeria, Nigeria suppose look after me" we all represent Nigeria in different ways... Civil Servant dey represent Nigeria, Teachers dey represent Nigeria, entrepreneurs dey represent Nigeria in their own ways...
This was someone that played for grade A clubs o . Inter milan, AC milan, AJ Auxere etc as well as playing for the super eagles.
Are his mates not kanu and okocha? Why are those not complaining?

He must have mismanaged his resources or was not informed enough to 'diversify' into biznaze like the okochas and kanus.

He should count himself lucky to reach the height he reached in soccer out of over 200 million Nigerians.

Chai Taribo!

On the pitch, you were a hard man who was dreaded.

Outside the pitch now, there is still no difference. I'm sure you would have tackled the Minister of Sports with a sliding tackle if he had shown up.

I wonder what would have happen to Christian Chukwu if not Otedola who gave $50,000 for his treatment abroad.

Kemi Badenock is spot on for Nigeria !

Taribo should stop talking nonsense none of you play for Nigeria for free and you forget the opportunity it was created for you in outside Nigeria?

Don't be ingrate many of your mates were disappointed when you were narrowly picked to play for Nigeria.
May God bless you for speaking my words! Were they the only heroes of this nation? Are they so more important than those military guys at war theatre fighting against terrorism or those working days and nights ensuring the govt revenue increases. Are they not the one indebtedness to the nation for giving them the privilege to play for the country when some were not given the opportunity.

Peter Rufai has a career earning forex for 13 years
Taribo west had a career playing for the 2 of top teams in Italy at the peak of Italian football and a career earning forex for 14years. If they failed to manage their finances, that is on them.
And if they don't manage their finances well, the country they represent in their time can't take care of them niiiii.

Emotional blackmail. Your contract ends when you don't play again. You are paid huge match bonuses and allowances. A single match allowance is more than most people's life earnings. The country doesn't owe you a thing

Lagos State Government and Lagos FA didn't do the right thing. If the NFF failed Lagos should celebrate their indigenous heroes. A son of the soil for that matter

[quote author=Hezzyluv post=136546050]He obviously said the truth. Sadly, people would come and criticize him for making such comment. But deepd own, they wouldn't allow their child to play for Nigeria either.

We saw how it went with the person that designed the national flag gan gan... If not lately that people started dragging the governments, them for no shake body.

You're just inviting critics and nobody will come and criticize him

I will never advise my son to play for this country— Ex-Super Eagles Defender, Taribo West says as he Laments Neglect of Late Peter Rufai, Slams NFF and Lagos State at Funeral

Former Super Eagles defender, Taribo West, could not hold back his emotions on Friday as he spoke to journalists at the funeral of ex-Nigeria goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.

The ex-Inter Milan star, visibly shaken, expressed deep grief over the treatment meted out to Rufai after retirement, describing it as a sh@meful reflection of how Nigeria handles its football heroes.

“I share the p@ins and burdens with the Rufai family,” West said. “It is dishe@rtening that Lagos State and the Nigerian Football Federation dropped the buck on them.

This is not how a nation should treat those who gave everything on the field.”

Struggling to keep his emotions in check, West recounted how the news of Rufai’s de@th hit him harder than the loss of his own parents.

“When my mother passed, I didn’t shed tears. When my father d+ed in my hands, I didn’t cry.

But when Rufai d+ed, I had goosebumps and tears rolled down my cheeks. What kind of nation treats its heroes like this?”

The former defender accused football authorities of neglect, pointing to similar cases of late Nigerian stars Stephen Keshi, Rashidi Yekini, and Thompson Oliha, all of whom, he said, were abandoned in their final years.

“Imagine a family crying and begging among themselves just to raise money to bury a national hero.

That is m@dness,” West fumed. “With this kind of example, I would never advise my son to play for this country. Do we even have a football federation in this Nigeria?”

Taribo West ended his remarks by urging authorities to wake up to their responsibilities in honoring and supporting retired players who s@crificed for the country.

I think Mr Taribo would advice his son to play for a socialist country. Maybe North Korea. He won't get paid, but he'll be looked after when he's old and when he's dead.

Maybe there's something planned for the family by the NFF. Or FG. Or even the Lagos State government.
According to reports, the Lagos state govt gave Peter rufai family 15 million naira for the funeral.

So I wonder why taribo West is ranting.

He just realized after he and some ex super eagles stars match support for the PBAT during the elections. At least peter would be remembered for his positive contributions to the game of football.

There's a word called moderation. Honoring and rewarding the Wafcon winners doesn't have to be with $100K , national honor and a flat. A smaller package, in view of the state of the nation would have sufficed.

Footballers sha.

In their prime, they will be wasting money on luxurious cars, houses and women without planning for their future.

Imagine Victor Osimhen complaining that govt abandoned him later in future.

When they are advised to invest for tomorrow, they will assume the money is too much and can't finish

These people are funny. FG has not paid pension to its workers that served it for decades, it's your matter they'll carry. Honour is not commanded. You were paid to represent the nation, and you leveraged on it deservedly. What are you expecting, state burial or public holiday? If the incumbent government at either federal, state or local deem it fit, fine and great. But it's not a right of every sport man all over the world.

Peter Rufai is a hero, and deserves a befitting burial, and so the NFF should be part of the burial arrangement. But for Taribo West to think the NFF and Lagos state government should cover the burial expenses is an entitlement mentality. Today some of us criticise government for giving the victorious Super Faicons and the D'tigress humongous amount for their achievements but tomorrow we will still complain government isn't doing enough for them.
Taribo's age was doctored to appear for Nigeria in the African under 20 championship in 1993 as he's way over the age limit as at that time, and that tournament launched him into limelight. He should be appreciative that the country gave him the platform to be what he is today and should try to control his emotions. If he has a child that's good in football, his child will need Nigeria more than Nigeria will need him/her. There were others better than Taribo that didn't have the opportunity to represent Nigeria as he did.

Though $100k and a house looks a bit too much but this might be the anomalies President Tinubu was trying to correct when he gave it to super falcons for winning women's Africa cup of nations.
